Maybe? Where I went to school is around 20 miles north of London, and it was definitely used there. So I'm not sure how much further out the word was used.

I'm just about in that age range but I only really know it from Amy Winehouse's song Fuck Me Pumps - "don't get too upset if they call you a sket, cos like the news every day you get pressed". Came out in 2003 so was obviously being used in London around that time.

Musta been pretty regional, as we were still using 'slag' or 'skank' up in the Scottish Borders directly over that time period (2000 - 2006), and I don't think it really made it to telly to spread around much. Sounds dodgy though, similar to 'skeet', so I'd avoid using for a pet name.

A 'sket' was a promiscuous person (usually a girl because misogyny), at least in the inner-city London school I went to, the more rude version of 'slag' (which was a bit dated by that point and used more ironically). We didn't really use 'slut' which was perceived to be more Americanised.

Went to a south east high school in the 2000s. No idea. I feel like pre-2005 a lot of words stayed VERY regionally locked until we all got Chronically Online and stuff bled together more. Different areas had different words for the same subculture stuff.

This is SO true. I was at upper school 03-08 in E.Midlands and we had the (in hindsight, terrible) terms townies and grebos before we had chavs and emos, and the former seems to be *quite* a regional thing, particularly the term grebo. Also, I don't know what sket is 😂

I am from the area where 'chav' originated (colloquially always heard it was because of nearby Chatham) and I remember a distinct before-time where I had to translate that online to townies, scallies etc, talking to friends from other regions, and the after-time when it became the universal word.

I'm a youth worker and asked one of the 13 year olds in my Sunday School if chav was still a thing (I grew up in south London and was in West London at the time so wasn't sure about the regional differences) and got told it was like 'a female roadman' which didn't really answer my question at all

(Old person, went to a state comprehensive high school (previously a state grammar school) in Cheshire in 1970s--80s. The school had lots of its own slang that would have puzzled anyone from a different school --- probably the norm in those days.)

It was like calling a girl a slag or a slut. But at my school sket implied they were also dirty/unwashed, like "how could someone sleep with a girl who was so physically gross". I don't know if that was a thing elsewhere though.

I think it just became a pretty big go-to for anything the popular girls found distasteful. I definitely remember it being referred to as 'sketty behaviour' when someone re-used a Coca-Cola bottle as a water bottle. Kids can be so strange!
