"How can the central precept of our country, founded on on principles that are reflected in the good book, how can we say we should cut healthcare from the sick and the needy to give bigger tax cuts to Elon musk?"
Cory Booker.
Speaking from the Senate floor, 04\01\2025
Listening to the passion in the @booker.senate.gov speech, his love of this country and democracy, I can't help think of "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington".
How fitting that a black man fighting for democracy, surpassed the record of a white man who fought for segregation and against equal rights.
So this is cooool and all, but once he's done...then what? Some one said strom Thurmond filibustered for 12 hours against the civil rights bill...and it still passed...and he at least was filibustering against SOMETHING. This is just what? So that we can feel good about something? And accomplish?
Thank Cory! We need more like you to shine the light on the truth of what our Republican Party is doing to destroy the very fabric of our Democracy. 🤗🇺🇸
It's about goddamn time. Disruption is one of the main tools Democrats still have in their toolbox and I'm glad to see somebody finally start utilizing it. Good for Sen. Booker!
24, yeah. And it doesn't really matter if it's a technical fillibuster or not, IMO, its holding things up, getting attention, and making a statement. And with the Florida and Wisconsin elections we need the Dems to get attention.
Heck yeah. Good for him (and for the senators helping him by giving him breaks with long questions. I can’t remember the name of the man who stayed up all night with him. And Schumer (🤢) did help last night as well.)
It also is a step to getting the msm attention. Dems have to make enough ruckus that they take tye headlines, and that is going to take A LOT of ruckus. The news prefers drumph and musty stories.
Even if it’s technically not a filibuster, even if it’s been to a mostly empty room, it’s still SOMETHING being done and we can all hope it’s a first step to more constructive action. If anything, these stories are finally being told on the floor of congress and citizens have an opportunity to hear
shoulda, coulda, woulda, once the whole truth comes out, we will discover underhanded tactics making the outcome questionable. She could have made a huge difference, but there is so much corruption in the federal government. A pushover R party, corrupt SCOTUS & criminals in the WH
Ok? he’s not obstructing anything. Is he testing the waters and building his opposition muscle or is this a ploy to get voters off Dems backs for not doing anything.
vote for Whittaker today. Let’s see how many senators deny unanimous consent. That’s the tell. If not, this is performative BS.
“You gotta unclench your ass cheeks, unpucker your asshole, relax your jaw, and shake it off. All that adrenaline locking up your frame, threatening to warp the chassis, you better let it out. Release steam.”
Even if you can't watch, tune in a device to CSPAN or YouTube and boost @booker.senate.gov
Cory's Booker's stellar fillibuster. After 18+ hours, he is still more coherent, lucid, accurate, inspirational than any speech by this president or his cabinet.
This is so empty. It will be forgotten next week. He could have stop all unanimous consents. He could have led the charge to remove @schumer.senate.gov . Instead he is getting kudos for talking for hours to an empty room.
He started ladt night cuz after 12 hours his colleagues can give him some breaks as the ask questions etc. Listen to what he's saying. It's educational. He's not reading Dr Suess. He discussing issues
I know about the issues, that’s what the news is for. Who is he educating? No one is there. The media won’t play soundbites for more than a day. He could have slowed everything down while actually in session by voting against 500+ unanimous consents, but he didn’t. No Dem has.
It's live on tiktok and no the news is not covering all the issues he's highlighting. Also he's talked now for more than 12+ hours.
No news service can go into the detail he's going into. He's spending hours at a time on one issue
So he is really getting the message out to the powerful voting block of…tik tok watchers that stay up overnight listening to speeches. It’s hot air, glad it gives you a small sense of hope, that’s what it’s designed to do, not actually address anything.
He's also on youtube and the press is all over it. I just happen to be more into tiktok, but there are other platforms to watch him on. I get it. You don't think it's helping or effective. Agree to disagree
What do we want? Justice. When do we want it? Now. If we don't get it? Shut it down. If we don't get it? Shut it down! If we.don't.get.it? SHUT IT DOWN.!
Yes. There are occasional long questions that allow him to sit for a few minutes. I think he can use the restroom as well. He almost looked delirious but he just got a 5th wind seemingly. He said he has more in the tank.
Senator Cory Booker just made history with the longest filibuster ever—bold, principled, and full of patriotic audacity. This is what standing up for democracy looks like. We see you, Senator. And we’re with you. 🌓✨
#StandWithBooker #DemocracyInAction
The Democrats approval ratings are abysmal bc we don't have more reps like Booker standing up to the tyrannical Trump regime. There are a few Dems, but not enough. What does it take to get the Democrat reps to rise up & fight for our country?
Anyone notice he doesn’t talk about his problems, his gripes? He’s talking about the struggles of other people. Caring about others. Novel concept for some so-called Christian conservatives.
🔵🐀🔵 #Neoliberal / #ThirdWay / #centrist #scumbags & #scumbagettes like #CoryBooker are beginning to try and protect themselves politically from the coming #anticorporatist primary backlash. Don't be fooled again by these #spineless tools.
@booker.senate.gov
The record for the longest filibuster is 24 hours and 18 minutes.
It is held by Sen. Thurman who was filibustering AGAINST the Civil Rights Act.
How poetic would it be for a black man to smash that record for a much more noble cause?!
It can’t, because this isn’t a filibuster. It’s just him talking. So just a verbal version of the classic democrat “strongly worded letter.” It has no power to change anything.
I would love to see him quote all of his Republican colleagues demonstrating their hypocrisy in their statements versus actions. Use pictures of each senator or representative with their conflicting quotes side-by-side. I’m sure there’s a meme format out there that would work great for this.
I hope he is still speaking or another Dem senator is when I head to my Republican rep's local office hours today with our local Dem party members. Kean Jr won't be there of course. He never is. He is afraid of his constituents.
Booker still has a lot to make up for the last few months, but this makes me look at him a different way. I respect him for doing this, even if it’s been a long time coming. I watched it for over an hour and I enjoyed it as much as I could while doing other things. :)
He's not actually disrupting business as usual. He's not holding up and business. Why do people settle for this instead of demanding that he do those things he's talking about: for example example, denying UC, fighting, cloture votes, blanket, holds on all Regime nominees... & stop voting for them.
We should all repost this and tag Cory Booker so he knows we see him and appreciate what’s he’s doing. It might encourage some other democrats to join in
That was an excellent, excellent speaking event and of Cory could do that for us in America. Surely everyone can attend one of the rallies this weekend make it a point to find out where there’s one near you and do it stand up speak out speak up. no one will do it for you.

We support empathy and doing the right thing. We support standing up to the weak and insecure fascist Administration.
We are the People.

Bluetooth speakers resist
Dems need to force the narrative, not just react.
This fillibuster is one such act.
Who's next?
Every Democratic senator should take a lesson from this and do the same, every day and in every way possible.
Team Fight is what's needed now.
Call Senator Booker to say thank you for resisting:

Don’t forget us blue states with huge red areas. The amount of Trump flags around Long Island is still appalling.
