Yes. And this has pros and cons. It means that when confronted with an honest choice between being decent to trans people vs not, they’re decent. But it’s also easy to bamboozle them into things like believing that purging every trans employee from the NSA is about “inappropriate use of work chat.”

Agreed. But public opinion surveys always showed broad support for the Equal Rights Amendment too & it still failed. Knowing how it was defeated shows how a vigilant minority can make these "wins" evaporate. Public opinion alone won't protect the vulnerable: ground level tactics are needed also
