It’s insurance open enrollment season for many Americans and if you have the option to switch to a member-owned healthcare co-op, and away from a for-profit company that puts profiteering over your health, now would be a good time.
I did a recent study on breast cancer care in California and insurance was reported as the number one barrier to care by both patients and physicians and groups working to deliver care to un- and underinsured women. The FCC should bar all commercials from insurance companies that say they care.
Yes banking should not be for profit. Tell me why is it okay that they make so much money off of your money, while charging you so many fees, giving you teeny tiny interest in your favor, the interest on your loans are ten times greater, they get to borrow money from the government for lot less
Have you ever been in a network that just straight up sucked? Like scary sucked but “these are your choices!” The trickery- we dealt with insurance pre- ACA and what a shit show.
What bothers me is people thinking that the unfortunate ending of a CEO’s life will fix everything. The real issue is the politicians. Those who tried to address it—giving us the ACA—were kicked out of office, replaced by someone promising to take it away. Go figure! 🤷
That's a question you can only ask in merica. 🤷♂️
I don't hate "Health Insurance," but as a german, the concept of for-profit health insurance companies is entirely foreign to me. I still don't get it, after 18 years in the US. 🤷♂️
Insurance companies are in the business to collect premiums. They are not in the business to pay claims. It’s very simple. The fact that our country allows corporations to profit from the ill health of its citizens rather than spending every dime towards wellness is a disease in itself.
Actually insurance in general. We paid our homeowners policy for years & never had a claim. Then we had substantial water damage from a neighbor’s unit, which our insurer paid but then they exited the state. No one else would insure us cuz we had a claim in the previous 12 months.
My reason to hate “Health Insurance” is that as soon as Nuts becomes commercial, "profit" is at the top and all kinds of grabbers come to the surface! That is why care is perfect, but should not be commercial.
Don't knock out till you've tried it!
I lived in Germany for just more than a year, I needed emergency heath care. My first experience, fantastic!
Nothing to turn down.
A healthy country is a productive country.
I would have expected the gready sods to embrace this.
And the rules change ALL the time. And comparing plans is very hard to do, whether you are computer literate or not. AND, most of the plans get you on one thing or another, but in the end, there really isn't much choice.
You bring-up another totally insane thing -- and maybe the root cause: Medication that costs $2000! If things were reasonably priced, we would not need insurance to cover catastrophic expenses. When I was a kid, contact lenses were $400. Today you can get a box of 6 at Walmart for $20.
I hate health insurance bc I have a genetic bone disorder and when I fracture, I need an MRI. Always denied and by the time the appeals work their way through the "system" my fracture is healing unless it needs surgical intervention.
Note people don't hate healthcare insurance in countries where it is properly managed (and not for profit). Living in Germany I never heard anyone hating on their insurance company - genuine disputes, yes, usually when there were medical disputes. The US insurance scheme isn't the only way
The DNC has been captured by big business, while the GOP has been its party for over 6 decades. Currently, the DNC acts as technocrats maintaining the status quo, while the GOP seems intent on dismantling everything. The DNC must become the agents of change; otherwise, the fascists will prevail!
Actual cost of all healthcare (Nurses+ Hospitals+Scapels+….) = X
Cost of Health Insurance (Agents+Enormous glass buildings+8Figure CEO salaries+….)= Y
Cost of Medicare/Medicaid in the form of withholding = Z
Cost to patients = X + Y + Z. Paying for 3 things when we only need to pay for 1.
How to stay alive in the USA.
Take supplements
Eat organic
Protein, fiber, no sugar, no processed food
Hydrate
Work out like a motherfucker
Sleep well (good luck with that)
Hoard sleeping pills, benzos
Don’t take them. Lock them in a safe.
When you get really sick
Open the safe.
Peace out.
I walk into a burger restaurant and order my burger because I'm hungry. I pay for my burger. Someone in the kitchen decides that I don't need that burger. They enlisted a second opinion from someone else in the kitchen who said I was not really hungry and possibly a cracker would work, no money back
Bingo... they are RAPING American's and we have nobody to defend us from their greed! Our Representation in Washington sucks! GET RID OF CITIZENS UNITED and most of this sh!t will go away!
I love my health ins. My siblings, friends, parents love their health ins. No problem here with about 150 people in my circle. And even if they had some issues, not enough to MURDER.
Auto and Home are up there too. We’re required to have it but if you file a claim, they hike your premiums so you end up paying it back. That way the insurance co gets your regular payments AND reimburses themselves for what was paid out for your claim.
All Profit/Private Insurance from Health, home or car insurance is a scam to profit the Billionaires at the expense of the insured.
To keep all insurance working as pure insurance, there should be caps on insurance executives compensations, perks. Shareholders should not exist.
Simple.
All insurances with the possible exception of life insurance are betting they won't have to pay out. It's a horrible business model that really has no product, just a bureaucracy and vacuum 😕.
It’s also not a product that’s optional. Everyone needs medical care and most of us cannot pay out of pocket because unlike the rest of the civilized world we have the Republican Party instead of universal care paid by taxes. So we pay billionaires instead to deny care.
It's ALL a scam! Any insurance in general (health, auto, home) is always looking for a reason NOT to pay a claim, but the premium NEVER goes down! And you pay soooo much a month & STILL have to meet a deductible?!?!?
It's ALL Insurance. The biggest scam of all. You pay huge amounts of your income to these companies but just try to collect if you need to. And if you do happen to collect, they will cancel your policy.
Yep. Living in FL with two
Hurricanes in two weeks. Insurance companies are going to make me lose my mind. 🌪️🌪️🌪️😡😡😡
So glad Gov DeSantis and his staff have worked diligently to fix our home owners insurance issues. Good Job Governor. Oh wait, never mind. See, losing my mind. That never happened. 🤦🏼♀️
Worked for a PBM for years--denying poor people needed medication took a serious toll on me. One day I woke up and decided to quit, haven't looked back.
I worked for the largest insurer in the U.S. for over a decade and I can tell you that it is the LEAST employee-oriented company I have ever worked for. You might think you'd get a break on your health insurance: not when I was there and I'd guess it's still that way.
Plus what’s the fight for? We shook hands and agree on the terms when you took my first premium out my paycheck that I had to wait 30 days to use 😳 so I’m confused 🤔
That's a really stupid statement as an insurance professional for 26 years I know that what that means is absolutely false.. you have terms of a policy and you accept those terms if you need to work around those terms you get what you get sorry not sorry
The rates keep going up,
As the services go down,
As you fight to receive treatment,
They give you the run around,
The politicians know about this,
And have always been aware,
They claim America can only afford,
To pay for their healthcare.
Private water companies in England have discovered it's much cheaper to pump sewage into rivers and the sea than treat it like they used to have to when we were in the EU. Their profits have gone up and our rivers are toxic. That's capitalism for you.
Make Medicare a purchasable option- it will be the cheapest and the best of all offered. It will slowly starve the big guys or make them adjust their insurance offering.
Why do two industries get rich off of one need? Insurance made Healthcare more expensive makes insurance more expensive…. Why are we even paying for insurance when we just need to pay for healthcare?
Imagine we had 1 million health insurance companies and each only had about 350 customers.
How high would premiums be to cover the CEO yacht let alone a major medical for one customer?
Obviously that wouldn't work.
It gets better with less companies.
Seems like 1 is the magic number here.
Insurance is the biggest ripoff in America. Auto, Life and Health insurance companies take your money and invest it and are some of the richest companies in the world but refuse to payoff when it’s time or refuse to offer policies in areas where they won’t turn a profit.
Health insurance is a gamble where you’re saying, “I bet I get sick”, and to prove it you smoke and get fat. Even worse, you join the plan that doubles the national average of denials at 32% thinking they won’t deny you BECAUSE YOU PAY YOUR PREMIUMS. God, you guys are suckers.
I hate health insurance because I feel like it should be a human right, not a paid service to keep us healthy and alive. You can't put a price on life.
Anything that values profit over human lives is abhorrent to me. I don't even see these people as human. They're just machines with a single overarching obsession. They need to be removed from all power and influence. The very mentality needs to be shunned, the same way we shun Nazism.
Because I had a patient yesterday, at her wits end, tell me, "I have the $523 [copay for $1,200 script], but it means my grandkids don't get a Christmas."
She paid the copay.
She pays for her insurance. She's 62 years old. It's absolutely bullshit.
Yup! 14 years ago, I was a FT student who only worked 3 days a week bc I was pregnant. Had a bleeding scare, went to the ER. Was told I owed $8k bc deductible hasn’t been met. W/O ins. It’s $1300. Paid $200 that I had and left.
After baby was born, was given a 17k bill. Thanks UHC! ✊
If we lived healthier life styles, ate nutritious food, read more, less TV box in your face stuff and talked to each other, not text, not post...we wouldn't need healthcare so much...like in the old days...that silent generation is silently living into their 90s...
Because I pay & pay month after month & hardly claim anything against it. My deductible drags on. It's just like auto insurance. Probably a good thing I'm not that unhealthy & am a conscientious driver. Knock on wood😏
I will never understand why so many Americans are against universal health care, and I will never understand how anybody could ever think that ‘for profit health care’ was a good idea
Because they believe what they are told by the ‘totally unbiased’ politicians who are owned by the insurance company lobbyists. (Congress has free healthcare for life, so they aren’t worried about the rest of us anyway.)
Right wing media also influences the gullible re universal care. They have their viewers believing the people in other countries have subpar care they have to wait years for and the US enjoys the finest healthcare in the world.
For profit healthcare arguments: More options to shop for (not into shopping when my appendix bursts), socialized medicine is blood letting and leeches (those that have it like it), government intrusion (better than UHC), slippery slope to Communism (c’mon)
Because the only time I tried to use company supplied health insurance, it failed me miserably, they were more concerned about doing all kind of tests and exams, instead of solving a straightforward ailment!
I hate that you often have no idea how much you are going to end up having to pay out of pocket until months later. Almost everything else that I spend money on I know up front what I'm paying before I agree to do something. But not with healthcare!
I hate health insurance because we purchase it so we’ll have sufficient medical care. Then when we need it, they refuse to pay for the care.
It’s happening to me. I need a surgery the insurance refuses. I am deteriorating and I’ll die much earlier than I should. Probably within the next three years.
I just got a call the other day, and medicare has started a new service whereby I can call a nurse 24/7 if I am having medical problems and they will let my doctors know what is going on.
I hate health insurance because they practice medicine without a license. When they're able to override the decision made by YOUR doctor without a patient/provider relationship or accountability for patient outcome, that is immoral, unethical, and should be made illegal.
that's pretty much ALL insurance..house, auto, dental, life, it's the biggest scam ever..I wish there was a way to fix it, but the insurance lobby is very powerful
Yet all insurances are extremely important. It is how they have been allowed to deny and reject claims that is so damaging. Their profits and the shareholder’s dividends outweigh a policy holder’s rights and protections.
I had wind damage in 2018 with 90mph straight line winds..my insurance covered only half the house the other side I paid for..like wtf I only need half a roof??
Has it occurred to anyone that perhaps United Health Care would prefer that the shooter not be captured and tried? The trial would be a nightmare for them - so many heartless denials revealed during testimony.
The next few weeks will be fascinating.
They don’t care, he was just another suit, easily replaced. Plus most Americans proved in November they support insurance companies screwing over people for profits.
I was denied a prior auth renewal for a weight loss medication because I didn't lose 4% of my starting weight, according to only their numbers, not my doctor's. How much did I lose according to them? 3.96%.
Which is exactly why it makes absolutely zero sense to privatize healthcare!! The model implies that profits must come at the expense of health!! Come on people!! As a doctor, i make far more in private insurance that i do with government, but I know its still the right thing to do!
I make heavy use of my military retired health benefits. The one I hate is homeowners insurance. I’ve paid into it for 30 years and the one time I filed a small claim after a hurricane they denied my claim. 30 years of premiums and nothing for it.
I hate health insurance because we have many examples of other models that work much better. It wouldn't be an experiment literally just pick on of those other systems that works elsewhere.
Well, that’s not REALLY true. In capitalism, that is the whole game: take maximum advantage in every transaction. You just don’t notice it as much because it usually doesn’t involve a weakened or dying person whose vulnerability and suffering is being exploited for money. But it’s there.

Incorrect. The business that makes the most money wins.
The goal of a FOR PROFIT business isn’t the best product. It’s the most profitable one.

How much land do I need these days to farm for engagement? What's your upfront costs?
Self pay MRI: $1200 MINIMUM.
Without the few regulations we have it would be worse

Already paid. Works great 👍🏼
Imagine making a mortgage payment every month on a house you aren't allowed to live in.
Learned long ago that insurance companies aren't in business to help people . . they are in business to make money. Period.
Please donate the cost of a co-pay to Luigi's defense fund.

We must send a message that murder for profit is inexcusable and that those who defend Americans will be exonerated.

Is their battle cry as they move in for the kill!
We the people are collateral damage –
Someone’s loved one died today
cause conditions pre-existed or they couldn’t afford to pay!

Needless, greedy middleman
Red tape time wasting even when claims honored
Help make US outcomes much worse per $ invested than similar countries
What else?

Legalized gambling
The more people get screwed over, the more $ they make
They're against the boogeyman the right dresses up, not the actual policy.
And, of course, young, healthy people have different perspectives on it than older people or those with chronic health conditions.
At least 2 appointments per week, 2 MRI’s, adrenal testing and cancer screening the 23rd.
One year I had to surgeon shop to take out my gallbladder, happened on Christmas Eve .

One session I said that on Very Bad Days I understood why people considered suicide. Therapist reported that remark to my insurance company.
Guess what happened next!
