For God's sake, no offence, tarif means tax on goods in French. At some point an extra f was added for not logical reason but that's the way the English is. We like to make communication more complicated than necessary, like adding tariffs to people already struggling.

I saw a news clip from Florida where a couple people were asked what they thought about the billboards. The man called Canadians assholes. The woman said we had no right to force our opinion on them. She thinks "tariffs will make groceries more expensive" is an opinion and not a fact.
Apparently the higher costs have not reached them yet. I don't mind their ignorance. They have a right to be that way. Canadians did not start anything. Cheeto signed the last trade agreement. USMCA. He doesn't remember doing that.

That is precisely what tariffs are. They are taxes paid by the consumer because whoever imports they are going to pass the upcharge on down. That is how that works and always has.

No thanks, but there are far better ideas than taxing ourselves to "punish the opponent". If the idea is self-defeating for them, then it is for us too. That's exactly why Australia, for instance, has decided not to use counter-tariffs.

Saw three of them just yesterday in metro Detroit. I cheered from my car. Our area, filled as it is with employees of the auto industry, may be affected by these tariffs more than some.
