I didn't. I did just learn where "redneck" came from. Rednecks were bad a-s warriors fighting for their future. Kind of like every non MAGAt in the country.
Ahem... Or ... "Hillbilly" is believed to have origins in Scotland, referring to Scottish Covenanters who fled to the hills to avoid persecution for their religious beliefs. The term combined "hill-folk" (people who lived in the hills) with "billie" (a Scots word for comrade or companion).
redneck came about when poor white people labored in the fields picking cotton and vegetables their necks got burnt from the sun...now it stands for ...I will let you finish the thought
This is what I love about Bluesky. So many really interesting people sharing info. I've known about the King Billy thing for years, but never thought to connect it with hillbillies. Wow. Thank you!
I agree. Such a nice atmosphere.
I saw it on a documentary years ago. In the same one, they explained the etymology of redneck.
Unionised workers wore a red neck bandana, so they were more readily identified from non. It's a capitalist-industrialist slur!
I was just going to post the same about Red Necks. I must have seen the same documentary. Another slur created by capitalists along with Welfare Queens and making liberals a derogatory term. Arseholes.
