I have three adult sons. One is a carpenter, one is a soldier, and one is a teacher. All three of them went through an apprenticeship of sorts.
Only one wasn’t paid for his time. Not only was he not paid, but he paid in for the work he performed.
Guess which one?

America doesn’t deserve its teachers.
The only work we were allowed to do for pay was subbing, only for our cooperating teacher, & only if we'd paid to be certified as subs.
I guess your program didn’t accept that sometimes a poor kid wants to be a teacher?
I'd managed my B.S. without debt, maxxed out my credit cards applying for medical school, and took out loans to go into teaching. Thankfully, my college was pretty affordable.
He ultimately did do so. But he said it was a real pain. This was for subing in Chicago.

Sane minds will prevail but it will take work
Or teachers only as knowledgeable on subjects as carpenters and soldiers?
I prefer a system that ensures teachers have the ability, and knowledge, to teach.
Maybe the cost of college is the problem, not quality control.
I loved teaching, which is why I still do it in a nonprofessional capacity, but everything else involved was just so draining.
Retired teacher here. 27 years. Couldn’t do it anymore.
If our youth were valued, teachers would be treated better. But that’s also why school shootings aren’t enough to bring sensible gun laws. The youth have no political sway
Primary and high school teachers: $95,000 to $105,000.
New graduate $87,550 to $125,763 for experienced.
People who work in the building industry earn an absolute fortune.
Same happens in 🇦🇺 where my daughter is not paid for her compulsory nursing placements, but trade apprentices all get paid (mechanic, plumbing etc).

For LESS than a teacher
Instructors can and should be women and men. I guess for small children it's a women job. The older students it would be men?
Hadn't really thought of it like that.
Heres a Unesco article that explores gender and teaching, as well as attrition rates (higher in males in the teaching profession)
In the UK you get a decent pay as a trainee, although one school I visited a trainee was planning to drop out after the 1st year, year 11 to 15 maths teachers were in high demand.
Trade vs. Career? Not sure exactly who you are insulting and why.
Teachers, to their unending credit, are willing to keep teaching for the kids through some awful circumstances — but since schools know that, they have no incentive to make the circumstances better, or pay them what they’re worth.
Then again I know the military side because I served for 20 years on active duty.
Buckle up; it just may become worse with this upcoming new administration!
I corrected many, many homework assignments on the bar where I worked during student teaching. Nothing like getting five hours of sleep before having to teach all day.
And my school was an hour away. That sucked
Became a fireman and tripled (and sometimes quadrupled) my pay.
And I was a talented teacher. So many good ones leave.
It's the teacher.
Because obviously education is less important than…
