My brother died on 1/17 and his SS check was stopped before the February deposit.

All this business I am reading about social security is nonsense. My mom died on 2/18. My dad got a letter yesterday informing him her benefits were ending and he had to repay the February payment because they don’t give a payment in the month someone dies. They know where every dollar is.

Yup. Consistent with how quickly my partner’s death stopped her next SS payment. It was one of the details I didn’t have to worry about cuz it was taken care of automatically.

My grandmother died in the Saturday after Thanksgiving in 2021 (so, the 27th that year, 3 days left in the month), they still clawed back her last check. They don't play at SSA.

My mom died on the last day of the month, and they clawed back the benefits for the whole damn month. Funeral homes notify SS when someone dies. Nobody get SS after they are dead.

Benefits are paid the month after the month of entitlement. That means January’s benefit is paid in February… BUT… unfortunately, you have to live throughout the entire month to be entitled to the check. I am so sorry. If your brother had a spouse or survivor on that record, their MOE would be Jan
