Why? Common folks can have opinions and be politically involved, but famous people can’t? At what point do actors suddenly have to become apolitical? Is it a monetary threshold? A certain level of name recognition?
Surely all citizens should be encouraged to express their political views. Why do people get so upset when people show you their true colors? Frankly, I'm with Florence Reece. Now more than ever, I want to know "which side are you on"!
That is exactly what kremlin-paid celebrities said publicly in early 2000 russia. A decade later, silence wasn't enough - you had to preach support for putin... you know the rest...
Translation:
Actors, like the rest of the country and the world, should shut the fuck up & keep their political views to themselves—unless they are Trump supporters. Classic example of how fascism takes root!
Maybe he should shut the fuck up. Evening actors have an outsized platforms, all people in a democracy have the right to express their political ideas. If you don’t like it, don’t listen. If we have to live with Charlie Kirk and Ben Shapiro constantly mewing then he can live with Sean Penn.
Actors are concerned citizens like anyone else, who happen to have a more public voice than most people. You could say the same about directors, writers, sportspeople, entrepreneurs...
(And a 'courtroom' is not where a monarch holds court.)
The arts are designed - exist - to move us . If you don't believe your art is in some way speaking to people I suggest you get another job as you ain't good at it . If you do think it is - you just got political .
Actors are citizens like everyone else, so they have the right to voice their opinions if they choose to. I just think sometimes they choose the wrong moments...
Literally every actor playing any role with even the slightest link to what’s going on in the world is ‘getting political’: police, lawyer, soldier, prisoner, sportsperson, teacher, builder, artist, medic etc etc etc. What’s his solution? Ban all actors?
But it’s okay for hillbilly Vance to spew absolute bs every day? All humans need to voice their opposition to disgusting lies other wise history will continue to repeat itself.
What a dummy.
Considering the very definition of Politics. Everyone should be ‘getting political’
Politics (from Ancient Greek πολιτικά (politiká) 'affairs of the cities') is the set of activities that are associated with making decisions in groups… …such as the distribution of status or resources.
I stopped watching the night agent because it was terrible, and he’s a terrible actor in it. I’m a little sad I didn’t have the chance to stop watching it because of this horrible take.
« Basso said he perceived Vance to be “a cool dude”. » Libertarian and ultra libéral, ultra conservative, homophobic, misogyn. Guys cool like that I prefer to avoid them and not in charge of politics.
“We’re court jesters. We’re entertaining. We’re public servants.” Two out of three for Trump. And he’s been trying out lines for years with the public not sure which ones he actually means.
Actor makes political statement condemning political statements by actors.
Yeah, OK. Skipping Season 2 of Night Agent because the show is ruined for me, not because of his political views, but because this guy is such a dolt his character now holds no interest for me. Such stupidity.
This is a major annoyance for me. Same as people who say they don't care what other people think. PEOPLE WHO DON'T CARE WHAT OTHERS THINK DON'T FEEL THE NEED TO SAY THEY DON'T CARE WHAT OTHERS THINK BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE WHAT OTHERS THINK!
I didn't watch the movie, and I won't. He was political by being in the movie. Plus, everyone has the right to speak out. It's called freedom of speech.
And just like that I stopped watching 'Night Agent'. I hope this random actor dude, (who thinks a guy who gave a Nazi speech in Germany is a 'cool dude') never works again.
Gabriel you have the right to attack other actors’ political speech because you live in America. My dad spent years abroad defending that right for you!
Everybody - also actors - have the right to get political & to share their thoughts and belief. Is this actor trying to stop people from expressing their opinions in public?
The wildest part is his analogy about jesters was so off base. Jesters were inherently political; oftentimes, they were the only ones who could openly criticize the king. And the way he describes acting is so lifeless. It's like he doesn't even understand his own craft.
You have the perfect platform to speak about political issues including the recent attack on artists. Good luck with your acting career and I won’t be watching the night agent any time soon!!!!!!
Oh my goodness. 'Court jesters'? How low can you put yourself? Is this medieval times of tyrannical kings? I have more respect for actors and their views than I have of those that were "elected." I can't believe it. What a pity
Art reflects life back to us in ways we are too timid to face. It’s greatest gift is to shake us up through the voyage of experience it offers so we can imagine, then reach, our potential. Art does not suppress, it cultivates our future.

Nothing to see here, the book and movie are just part of the grift.
Typical right wing hypocrisy.

FUCK YOU!

Same concept here.
STFU.
Land of the free?
He's saying that becoming an entertainer revokes your right to speak your mind on politics. NONSENSE
Reagan should have shut up and not become part of politics?
Trump should shut up and not be in politics?
He’s probably dismayed at being seen as helping JD Vance, who is definitely not “cool”.
