Can someone explain why media has embraced—with such striking credulity—the idea that Musk is leaving Washington?
Even if one accepts his claims at face value, which one never should, he'll spend 40% of each work week doing "DOGE" business rather than Tesla's.
Why does media love this lie so much?

Elon Musk arrived in Washington as the most powerful political outsider ever
He's leaving with his reputation wounded, relationships severed, companies in crisis, fortune diminished — and little to show for DOGE but chaos and contested savings.

WTF does everyone constantly fall for it?
The media think we live with corded phones and long distance rates at $2 a minute?
It’s negligent to suggest he’s “leaving”. He has complete access to citizens data as well as most govt systems.
I'm still trying to figure out why he is paid so much money to be the CEO of Tesla when he spent all his time with Trump and DOGE the last 2 years. Proving that a CEOs job isn't really very important?
I watch @meidastouch.com @politicsgirl.bsky.social @briantylercohen.bsky.social for those reasons.

Hey - we arrested the guy who fleeced your house, but all of your stuff is gone.
From working as an unelected person.
You must know this.
He MUST vacate doge by May 30.
And he’s been getting failing grades on his so called efficiency.
Again I ask: why?
Or it could be something esoteric, like the fact that media is sick of covering Musk and would rather return its focus to an elected official like Trump.
But it's also a continuation of a pattern in major media of coverage that implicitly covers for rich men.
However, I’ll take the tone and blistering criticism, as evidenced above!
Even “left wing” outlets are still owned & operated at the end of the day by companies that have shown their willingness to capitulate equivocating them to lesser-state-run media.
DEMS, do you understand what this is all about? It is about halting free and fair elections.
And the other rumour that trump didn’t like how much he was taking the spotlight.
Mostly because the majority of "readers" don't appreciate nuance.
"Readers" are more into a PUNCH AND JUDY format.
It's a lot easier to process.
Up/down. Good/bad. Happy/sad.
sued relentlessly by the most destructive administration in the world.
he will aways have his hands in the cookie jar. doge employee or not.
clever on Trump's part though to plant the idea, trying to minimize Musk's damage
He can rig
-No, Musk isn't going away, his illegal hackers are still there, and forcing their way into secure databases.
Dude chooses when and where he wants to work.
It must be nice to be a billionaire nepo-baby.
Once these predators taste that kind of power, they're not giving it up.
EVERYONE should stop paying attention to anything they say.
I don't feel bad for Elon, or anyone else who worships King Trump.
He is ruining my auto city here in Canada, and his betrayal of his own trade agreement, plus annexation of Canada makes me want to vomit 🤢
That's insane. That's obscene wealth. And even that's not enough for them.
200 deals. That's basically every country on the planet, already done. Yet he can't name one.
Is it to keep the spotlight on him? All publicity keeps them in the public eye, and *popular*?
I think people want to believe it’s over and media is so naive, but he not only “leaves behind” destruction, his people are strategically positioned across government and he already has most of the data. He doesn’t need to be present for the next stage.
I get it. Most Americans read between a 5th-8th grade level.
I remember learning in college writing classes that most publications had to be written at or under an 8th grade reading comprehension level.
probably he is literally unable to spend money on something worthy anymore, after that system shocks 🤷♂️ imho
They should have front pages calling for mass action to fight the fascism rapidly rolling out across your country
Musk has done incalculable damage to the US. He has advanced Trump’s agenda to mold America into Russia’s image: polluted, backwards, fearful, and more reliant on fossil fuels.
Why?
He wants some of that attention and power.
Everything he does is for his own personal gain.
And he hasn't spoken with any of them about anything over which they happen to be an expert.
The dude has mastered the art of tech bullshit.
Your DATA Maga FOOLS!
HE has it and who knows what he will do with it!
Tesla must die.
Musk has never worked a day in his pathetic useless life. He's a billionaire toddler with a blowtorch. He's playing. He burns things. That ALL he does.
I just wanted to see TSLA drop below $118/share.
Everyone has my data; all that I care about has been gutted; problems that we'd mitigated with fed oversight are now ballooning out of control; it is doubtful the world will trust us in my lifetime.
Trump + Musk = irrelevant now in terms of damage done.
