No one is. That's what makes the media treating him like some elder statesman so amusing.
It's probably not a bad thing he's made this proclamation. If Blair said 'It's sunny outside,' most people would pick up an umbrella. Now we can say 'Tony Blair said we shouldn't' and just do it.
For the same reason he was electorally successful - He kissed Rupert Murdoch's ass deeply and passionately enough so got/gets positive media coverage (and he was lucky enough to not have to deal with social media back then).
They do, but the media makes a concerted effort to convince the electorate that the Greens have no chance of winning so that they vote for someone else instead.
That’s not what I said, it’s literally what they do. How can a party built on fairness, openness, accountability and humanity be a bad thing to vote for? The same old politics hasn’t worked for a long time. It’s time for a positive change, be bold, not old. Vote Green!!
The fact you can’t see that they aren’t is the actual problem. I bet you’re a non-voter aren’t you? They’re worse than the people who vote for parties like Reform. More than willing to use the benefits of a democracy but not participate in maintaining it. Anyway, don’t really care. #votegreen 😁
YouGov: "One in five Britons (21%) say they would consider voting for the Green Party at a future election".
People do listen to the Green Party. The problem is that people are worried that voting green would be a wasted vote outside of a green seat. The same as every small part.
I love that you're condemning Blair's nonsense, particularly when he's promoting the CCUS fairytale, but can you please get your co-leader to retract his transphobic statements on BBC R4 dated 23/04.
I can't support your party any more unless he addresses this directly.
Hey- don't forget to explain that renewables are cheaper and we all subsidise fossil fuels - globally for around 1.5 trillion and estimated costs can be up to 7 trillions ( our world in data and IMF)
So like what eventually will be nearly free or fork almost infinite amounts ...
I love the message Carla, but the reaction will be: how are you going to pay for it? The Green answer is to tax the rich. Even if taxes funded govt . (they don’t), by the time the money is returned, you might as well wait for CC. The alternative is simpler: pass a budget and pay for it directly. MMT
No need to tax. Make forfeiting all your assets the punishment for corruption. And define large political donations as corruption, as they are. Will raise billions.
I agree - with the important caveat that in practice, those fines will ‘raise’ nothing. They will find their way into the Consolidated Fund where every night they are deleted. Govt. spending is always through money creation: fiat: let it be. Quicker to vote the money into existence and fine later?
True, but deleting money creates headroom to create more without causing inflation. Also, a large part of billionaires' assets will be stocks & property rather than cash.
In reality though, it’s highly unlikely the energy transition will push the UK beyond its productive capacity - so the risk of inflation is remote. So why wait for the legal process to grind on when we can start the transition immediately by passing a budget?
Because he is rich and rich people don't care about the environment, and their goal is just to keep accumulating wealth. They will destroy everything if they are let.
"Tony Blair... who is being paid millions by Big Oil."
Just a few extra words needed to conclude this excellent speech, Carla.
And yes, it is appropriate to criticise a former PM when he's now a consultant to petro companies and is spouting misinformation.
A decade in Australia is enough to see the changes. More Cyclones, frequent flooding that causes disruptions, bushfires, storm surge and a fear of the summer months. We’re feeling the affects, they said Australia would be first. It’s here and it’s coming for you next.
Blair’s use of language is *interesting*. Whenever he uses the word radical, he means conservative and actually believes it’s radical simply because he’s the one who’s saying it. I actually believe that he could find his way back into frontline politics as the leader of the Conservatives.
I'd hope they're not. Another totally moronic thing he said was we should invest more in CCS - Carbon Capture and Storage - which is a complete white elephant and most of all a con! It will encourage and fund fossil fuel companies, wasting public ££, with absolutely no prospect of success.
The best argument to reduce petrol use is that it hits war mongers and genociders. Climate is an important factor but maybe not complicated than explained in either side, but the end of hegemony and genocide is compelling no matter what.

He should be in jail!
We also need to plan for #drought, not just floods & heat.
I live in East Anglia. This was in July 2022
The only people actually listening to him are our corrupt and biased media!!

I wonder why a multimillionaire concierge to dictators and billionaires won't mouth the words "tax the rich"? It's a puzzle.

He’s late to the anti-net zero party, but it was completely inevitable that he would.
Unfortunately his people are still back running Labour.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention this.
With 4 MPs and and increased number of councillors would you care to explain your reasoning?
