Reading my kids "Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great", I came across a scene where her sister was dancing to a CD. I had to stop, because my kids didn't know what a CD was, and I also know that it absolutely was not a CD when I read it as a kid.
I saw this on @linkara.bsky.social 's Halloween series last year. It's surprisingly (or not?) very cute especially given the whole horror movie origin.
Also how I learned there's a loooooot more to the Ring universe than just the one movie.
Imagine not being able to go viral because every time you forcibly subscribe someone the previous subscriber gets away. And then your one subscriber dies a week later.
The British TV series Ghosts (very different from the US remake) has lots of gentle gags about this kind of dislocation. And your post reminded me of the parade in Satoshi Kon's 'Paprika' - it must be infuriating to haunt something cursed with obsolescence. (As we all do during the ageing process.)
One of my favorite scenes in Sadako vs. Kayako (2016) is when some girls find the cursed Ring tape jammed in a VCR in an antique shop and play, and one of the girls isn't affected because she was playing on her smart phone the entire time and not paying attention, so she didn't get cursed. 😆
