As a grandmother, I can testify to the fact that these newer playgrounds are a lot safer than the ones I grew up with, my kids grew up with and some of my older grandchildren grew up with. No one tested to see if any equipment was too hot or too dangerous. We just pressed our luck.
2nd and 3rd degree burns on my feet as a two year old walking on a metal slide in July. My mom was in the maternity ward having my sister and I was in the burn ward. Fun times for my mom.
Please tell dog owners to check the temperature of the pavement before walking their dogs on it. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their feet.
those metal slides we used to have SCALDED in the Texas summer sun, and we slid down it anyway. it's what we had at recess at the time. >< no one advocated for us.

At least my adults showed us how to pour a bucket of water down them first, which helped. For a bit. Sometimes.
Obviously, that wouldn't hold up to modern standards, as children are still prone to accidentally touch the slide in the process.
