Did anyone think about the economic impact of the loss of those jobs/salaries? Those who live paycheck to paycheck will get slaughtered. Even with the social safety nets…
But, as Leon said there will be some pain…”from the richest man in the fuccin world”
In other words, the poor and middle class will be suffering. Sad, but Maga voters thought he'd be great and worshipped like he was some Messiah.
Project 2025 is coming to life.
I love how these geniuses are like 'hey the govt is too large a part of our economy and we need to axe this all at once without any feedback from results' and somehow don't think this will cause a major economic meltdown.
yep, he is definitely saying pain is coming. But in a way where he thinks he can just jump into the nuclear reactive room for just a second and it will all be ok
Taking health care away from a bunch of people who know how to use military equipment in a country with as many weapons in circulation as ours seems like a good way to get yourself killed in a military coup.
Congress has the power of the purse. 45 will spark a slew of lawsuits, and scrutiny from watchdog groups. It is going to be interesting to see what happens come primary time.
This is balls out stupid, you wouldn't even notice a blip if you fired every single employee of the fed government. And I notice no one is talking about eliminating Pentagon waste, just government programs. What do you think thin skinned Musk will do when his plans don't show returns?
I don't know who... But for sure there's a lot of money from economic collapse, on the other hand absolutely nothing good for their citizens.
I have the feeling people don't believe Project 2025 is on course. The hard part is making something better, they want to F it all up and they have a plan!
Trump and the MAGAs won't have to cancel Medicare and Social Security. With these rules there won't be any person or process to authorize a claim or payment
Cut VA health care?!? Sure - cut care for all of the people who volunteered to keep our country safe and sacrificed big time. This coming administration has NO clue what it takes to serve their country. None of them have ever volunteered for the military 😡
Elon and Vivek are so greedy they won't even make the small sacrifice of going into the government. That is why they are hiding behind a private commission and pretending its a department. They don't want to have to comply with ethics and other rules that government employees have to.
This memo states the next phase of Project 2025, Implementation. Unfortunately, the plan is to place all administrative functions (departments) under the control of the Executive Branch, without Congressional approval. I hope there are enough stop-gaps to prevent this from happening.
This is hilarious. Space-X works their people very hard. If they are following that model, the remaining staff will be forced to work tons of overtime to maintain the base functions.
mUsK must surely understand AI will analyze his input along with the questions and will then try to develop the answers mUsK wants --right? Remember the embarrassing experiment where AI turned racist in less than 24 hours, trained by the conversations it had? These guys aren't fooling anybody.
This is clearly a win-win: Either DOGE saves taxpayers money (which is perhaps just a slightest bit difficult to believe 😉 ), or DOGE will be an epic failure and Trump will suffer from it.
1. We hate regulation until we get fucked. Then we love it again.
2. The government does workforce studies all the time.
3. Lapsed authorizations mean jack shit. If Congress funds it, it is authorized. This reads like an 8th grade civics paper from a kid who found one weird trick.
4. The government does not spend money that has not been appropriated by Congress. What do you think causes government shutdowns?
5. We all get to learn exactly what the government does in the coming years. I personally look forward to the shipping stoppages due to lack of dredging navigable waters
So, basically, Elon and Vivek will be running any and all departments that have budgets. When their analysis is done and the departments are stripped of funding and employees and regulations, they'll be turned over to Trump and the Cabinet and agency heads.
I keep wondering why they want tens of thousands of people out of work. It’s already hard as hell for everyone who doesn’t work in fast food to find jobs
> declare agencies are mismanaged and aren’t performing at their best
> remove large swatches of federal employees in said agencies, leading to remaining employees to be overburdened
> agencies become mismanaged and can’t performed at their best
> repeat process until EPA is one guy recycling cans
The founding fathers didn't create an imperial presidency. The constitution ot the USA charges Congress with writing the laws under which the American people live, and the president with taking “care that the laws be faithfully executed.”

"(AI?)" jfc this is gonna be such a shit show we're 100% gonna go through a news cycle of these idiots trying to eliminate things that don't actually exist
Right--can you imagine him bringing the same disastrous model to federal agencies supplying critical services? Twitter under Musk has no customer service whatsoever. No phone number, email, or even account to contact because he is too greedy to pay people for that vital work.
All these morons saying “run government like a business” have absolutely no clue, but we’re ALL about to find out how stupid of an idea that is.

Government bloat is a very real thing but these are all really bad ways to approach them. Just cutting headcount/programs without needs analysis and program purposes by the whims of sycophants who would never be affected (and in some cases enrich) is what America voted for.
I just think its crazy that they think the "efficient" solution is to send a DOGE rep to every single agency...
The actual efficient solution to cut costs would be to tell all the agencies that they are getting a 5% budget cut and should expect that every year until further notice.
The people already there know how their agency functions pretty well and should be able to identify the easy budget cuts. Some random DOGE rep asking ChatGPT wont.
Also spoiler alert: the answers are probably to cut rent on office space and reduce management/admin jobs.
If you cut from some agencies that way, eg, lRS, you end up with less money. For others you end up hurting capacity and then it costs more to restore it later
Curiosity, once these layoffs happen, where are the jobs to go to? Wouldn’t the lower tax base be underfunding? I’m not seeing the benefit of such high unemployment, unless it’s going to be used as an excuse not to make reparations or debts? Wait, is the plan going to be to bankrupt the country?
Yes. The end goal appears to be to crash the economy so that billionaires can swoop in to purchase entire sectors for pennies on the dollar. That creates an locked in oligarchy.
We will not let Elon Musk do to our government what he's done to Twitter:
Threw away goodwill in its brand
Overpromised range of services
Eliminated and devalued safeguards to prevent degredation of core service
Lost half of user base & most of revenue base
Used government to staunch $$$ bleeding
This illustrates the #1 reason I canceled my WaPo subscription. DC is a company town. WaPo is its newspaper of record. And yet, when the fascists were marching ever-closer to the city's borders, WaPo was like, "Eh. We don't see a compelling need to take a side in this fight."
I condemn the ultra rich for forcing this dickshit asshole on the country again I demand that they either loose their influence or swiftly be deported for treason
I'm a veteran and I can tell you that the hardest lesson I've had to learn is that the vast majority of Americans on both sides of the aisle genuinely and passionately wish I had died in Iraq. Cutting the PACT Act was a Trump campaign promise, and his polls went up when he made it.
We’re about to learn real quick how busted our information system really is. 50/50 shot the podcast bro circuit and all Sinclair-owned media goes radio silent over this
Controlling information = Central to Trump administration.
You're right on abt assistance from the PROPAGANDA Network, which extends to a more passive MSN bc they're afraid of retribution.
Plus the whole Bannon plan has always been to "flood the zone" so people can't follow what's going on
It won’t take long for the news to get out once vets try to get medical care at the VA or access any other benefits they’re entitled to. I’m betting it’ll take about one month.
Agree with you and @nellonearth.bsky.social. Gaslighting can only go so far when you tank the economy and damage people as much as the President Musk plans to.
50% of the country considers our economy worse than 2008, I absolutely think you can bury a story like this, I’m at the point where anything less severe than 15% unemployment can likely be gaslit about
They think that because the cost of things has gone up relative to pay, at the lower levels of employment. "The economy" is doing great. People, on the other hand, are not.
This is one loose bit which allows a foot in the door with regard to "actually the economy is bad" - it's easy to buy in on.
I believe economic perceptions move mostly in line with whoever is in the White House. Come February, barring a huge collapse, most rural Americans will think the economy is amazing
This is like writing your business plan by copying one from the local Circle K managed by your creepy uncle who went out of business 25 years ago for attempted money laundering and for selling used condoms and long- expired little debbie snack cakes to undercover FDA agents. #idiocracy
So, this basically means that the safeguards for AI development will literally be gone. Has no one seen Terminator?! Oh wait, that’s probably the future these yahoos want, because they think they’re playing God. Very disturbing.
It's funny because the lady at NASA who nearly single handedly gave the starship contract to SpaceX quit NASA within months after that decision and went to work at SpaceX. There should be laws for that kind of behavior.
Wow. The legal corruption in the US is amazing. And this is small potatoes compared to high ranking military officers finding jobs in the military-industrial complex.
The incentives to do this kind of thing are awful. Yet, they blame the salaries of civil servants who get paid less than their private industry counterparts for the national debt. Shameful.
I'd happily buy shares in Starlink. Like most new tech (i.e. the whole Green movement) it costs a massive amount at startup but eventually becomes indispensable and makes thousands of times that back.
Starlink is at cost to SpaceX but will reap huge rewards.
I'm thinking they'll try a wholesale replacement instead. You know, put that budget into paying for SpaceX services. But it'll wind up classified as something other than part of the budget.
The only way his base will see the light is if they have to suffer. They currently don't believe he will do what he says they will do and if he does it will only hurt the people they hate. They have to hurt, and be furious at people who won't suffer like they do (the wealthy).
And they will probably, somehow, someway blame it on the Libs.
It's going to be the same for legal immigrants who voted for drumph, who, for some reason, think they won't be rounded up along with the rest.
People! Read a history book!!!
Federal employee payroll is less than 2% of the budget...they're not trying to save money, they're sadistically cutting off peoples livelihoods and shutting down agencies that use taxpayers money to help taxpayers.
They’ll justify the cuts to the VA by villainizing veterans. They’ll call the ones that need help, “lazy” and say that they “get tax payer handouts”. Divide and conquer- it’s what they do.
So Vivek & Musk want to lay off all of these federal employees which will also cut down on tax and Social Security contributions. Add in the loss of tax contributions of close to a projected 500,000 - 700,000 undocumented workers who pay federal and state taxes, and you have a big problemo!
Wouldn't a more intelligent approach be to do an efficiency study by trained economists on government waste, & system inefficiency, before laying off people?
Ex. why does the gov't pay $140 for a $7 hammer?
Defense industry overbilling, is notorious!
Planned Obsolescence increases GDP because consumers must replace the garbage they throw away. However this increases Demand Side Depreciation. But our brilliant economists do not include DSD in the Net Domestic Product equation.
In fact economists say nothing about Net Domestic Product!
Perplexity:
NDP = GDP - Depreciation
Economists consider NDP to be an important indicator of economic growth and sustainability, as it accounts for the wear and tear on capital assets57. Some economists even view NDP as a better measure of social and economic well-
Perplexity:
The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reported that the current-cost depreciation of consumer durable goods in 1995 was $586.1 billion8. This figure represents the decline in value of these assets over the course of the year.
Cars typically depreciate rapidly in their first few years.
Of course we have not heard a single word of increasing IRS funding so that agency can collect many hundreds of billions of $$s owed by wealthy people who cheat the gov't & fellow taxpayers.
6 - I keep saying this, but disability will fall here. Make everyone re-certify because "we are all getting rich while sitting at home." 🤬 There is already a huge backlog, recertify process would take years.
I work in the federal government. If they cut my job, myself and my three kids under four will be destitute. As it is, we can barely afford our bills. I’m so scared.
Make sure that you have a back up plan in place. Even if it’s Starbucks or seeing if a friend is hiring, do your networking now. You do not want to be scrambling while thousands of other people are also scrambling.
I wish you well. It sounds like you’ve had a good career and it’ll continue.
Understandably so but remember Elon and Vivek are clowns and BS artists. Their nonsense won't get through Congress and their attempt to have the Supreme Court nullify Congress' constitutional control over spending will fail. It is a shame good people have to worry due to corrupt billionaires.
I not sure about that, they all seem to be bending over. He is even threatening them if they don't go along, imagine that? And money can buy anything as we can see elon's pretty much is the VP now. I totally agree with what you're saying and that's the way it should be but I'm losing all faith
The problem they have is the election was close, especially in the House. They have little room to spare in the Senate and almost no room in the House. Between moderates, people in swing districts/states, people who are retiring they will have trouble. + the filibuster.
Their small margins will save us from the worst effects. The House likely will be 220-215 at full strength and that means they can only afford to lose 2 votes on a bill. And the Musk-Vivek cuts likely won't come up for a vote until 2027 when Democrats very likely will have the House.
(I’m mainly wondering about FOIA, and how it would work if DOGE advised one of the EOP offices not subject to FOIA, and if they are going to try to get around that)
It isnt even an official office so I don’t know what authority it has. If it is authorized by the executive branch it will be subject to FOIA (unless they do away with FOIA)
It depends on exactly what it is. Not every office is considered an agency subject to FOIA even if govt. I am not sure how it would work and it may be a complicated analysis which is why I’m curious https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/administration/eop/oa/foia
look at Russia when they went bk caused by a Reagan Arms Race. The Oligarchs stepped in and took over all tax revenue stream depts. leaving the citizens with the debt and themselves a guaranteed income stream. The 2025 plan does the same and Elon sees him as owning the USA and tRump as his lackey.
First step: increase bureaucracy to fix bureaucracy. DOGE ppl will soon realize that they don’t understand government works and will ask for more ppl to help.
#5, Pretending that an act of Congress (appropriations) could be invalidated by a prior inaction of Congress (not passing a reauthorization bill) is beyond silly.
Who do they imagine is out there deciding whether DOGE is a good idea based on a make-believe technicality?
Musk is all about fake technology. Remember his failed presentations of robots (humans in suits), and his supposedly unbreakable car windows (smashed to smitherines). The maker of his EV batteries says that he actually knows nothing about batteries. We’re in trouble I’m afraid.
No reporter has investigated the huge possibility of what Elon Musk will convince Trump to do. Use xAI, Musk’s supercomputer, to be fully integrated into government systems. When he talks about efficiency he wants AI to replace humans. What could go wrong?
Reminds me of the USSR Political Officer. The person responsible for the political education and organization of the unit to which they are assigned, to ensure political control of the military but with government departments instead.
For some reason he thinks that his genes are superior but anybody who's seen that upper body torso knows that there's definitely some genetic mutation happening in there and that generic mutation should not be perpetuated any further.
Yet he and other Far Right peeps are out here saying that women should have kids regardless of their financial status, for instance. They’re even saying that sex should be for having kids only. Yeah, that’s one nice way to make men and women hate each other even more.
Rumors.....he has a harem. He is mouthing off about our responsibility to fight population decline. He has moved his headquarters to a state with a full abortion ban.
At this point, I believe it. The man’s obsessed with population decline and growth. Adding to the harem thing, why do u think red pilled men are obsessed with him and Andrew Tate? They want a “rules for thee, not for me” society where corporations get their worker drones by any means necessary.
That’s sometimes the MO for these rich billionaire types. They think they can do whatever they want because they got that bag. However, they still gotta deal with the court of public opinion.
Corporate oligarchy at its worst. Cutting jobs which Americans depend on is very unAmercan. We know they will cut jobs & shift that money to wealthy corporations & to their own corporations. Gov't is supposed to help the middle class & poor not serve the interest of the rich.
Exactly, gov't is supposed to serve the corporate establishment (who don't need the help) according to Republicans & not the middle class & poor (who need the help)
Repub party & their big rich corporate allies especially in the media constantly brainwashing electorate to support their corporate interest even though it conflicts with interest of the middle class & poor. Not one repub policy puts interest of the middle class & poor ahead of corporate interest.
Yes, the burden will unfortunately be on the backs of the middle class. The socio economic divide will get wider, with only the very poor and the filthy rich. There’s no accident that the picks for this White House are billionaires. This was the driving force behind all revolutions in history
It's flying under the radar but this would lay off over 2 million people. Think of the economic impacts, especially in Virginia, Maryland, and DC. Virginia has elections next year. The VA GOP should be held accountable if they don't fight this. @levarstoney.bsky.social @gene4va.bsky.social
This would also impact thousands of federal contractors and their private employees. Thousands are located in the DMV, but there are thousands all over the country.
This is a huge test for the rule of law. There are federal laws that prevent the politicization of the federal workforce, and govern how federal employees are laid off or fired. There will be lawsuits. Will the courts allow Trump to ignore these laws.
It’s the same thing they did in Nazi Germany. Removed those that were “inefficient/wouldn’t bend to Hitler”. Hired or Promoted loyalist, expanded Military, and it worked good for many people. 2 yrs in and the Economy started to collapse. Nobody trusted anyone. Republicans will give him everything.
dont get me started on Nazi Germany. Goebbels would be proud seeing all this propaganda in today's media. Relentless brain-washing going on 24/7/365. These fuckers have no conscience.
So, he wants Stalinist political commissars in every agency. AI can't judge what is best to add or eliminate. It doesn't think, it just reflects back its programming. It's not a window, it's mirror.
One person's govt waste is another person's social security check. Austerity will endanger survival on the margins while tariffs and inflation turn billionaires into trillionaires.
I don’t think most of the comments realize just how many people work in the federal government. A TON of retired/separated military, lots of military spouses. Lots of towns are completely supported by the jobs at bases in their area. And this is before you get to the VA cuts... smh

Every time Republicans control the US government, their trickle-down policies drive the economy into Recession.
Since WWII, the Administrative State & safety nets have prevented a Depression.
Elon/Trump/Project2025 will end those safeguards & implement the worst trickle-down plan ever.
He then quickly realized Twitter couldn’t run without many of these employees. So he rehired some & made everyone work harder to avert disaster.

What happened to the depreciation of cars, refrigerators and air conditioners purchased by consumers.
There were 200,000,000 motor vehicles in the US in 1995. How many were Consumer owned?
