Knitting has become my little creative outlet because I am not very artistic but I can follow directions and there is something kind of soothing about how the world may be falling apart but what I can control is this little hat I'm making.

I built a miniature called "Magic Pharmacist" and you have put to words why it was so satisfying!
"...because I am not very artistic but I can follow directions... the world may be falling apart but I control this little [room] I'm making." That's exactly it, thank you, I couldn't figure it out. 😊
I don’t know what to say, but please just know that I wish you well - with all the rage, and peace, and energy you are going to need to get through this.
I find a lot of comfort in stabbing yarn and making something beautiful at the same time. I didn’t realize how quickly knitting calms me until a friend pointed it out. There’s something so relaxing about the rhythm of the stitches.
I started a sweater and my brain couldn’t figure out the pattern, so I’m just going to try it on as I go. I’m fascinated with contiguous shoulders and it’s looking pretty good.
Get this kit and some worsted weight yarn and practice stitches. There are a lot of great YouTube tutorials out there as well. Basically any new stitch I come across I learn from a YouTube tutorial.
If you live near a local yarn shop, see if they have classes. The classes are great for getting you started as well as developing a nice community of yarn artists.
thank you!! once I get through this moving process I'll look around the area I'm in! I'll be closer to Lakeland and I'm sure they're will be some options around there!
Legos are similar. To put together a set you have to follow a pretty intricate instruction sheet, almost like building something from a blueprint. The finished product is very satisfying.
I can't follow written directions except for knitting directions. No explanation for this, but when I finish something, I am so thrilled that there's at least one kind of direction that makes sense to me. Maybe knitters write better directions than everyone else?
Why is this so real? Any time i have too much homework i just crochet to a drawing video and it's just a h h if i can't do anything right at least i can manage a sc
My stepdaughter is an amazing knitter. I ordered a beginners kit on Monday and I can't wait to try it out! Like you, I am not artistic either. I can't get my mind to stop and I am hoping this will help. I feel like I have turned into a crazy person the last seven days.
I feel the same with crochet, something very soothing about it. I also recommend junk/scrap journaling if you want another easy creative outlet, scavenging little bits throughout the day to journal with later is really fun. Helps to record memories and you start to look at junk/the world differently
Omg please know that I am artistic and I CANNOT follow directions. I have no idea how to read a pattern but I know how to crochet, double crochet, and that's probably it. I've made hats, scarves, and blankets, but I swear if you need me to follow anything else my brain is jello. We all do our best.
It really takes time getting used to patterns. It helped me getting basic instructions from a book and a few online sources that came up while looking for a specific thing. Sometimes the instructions and pictures are just not clear enough for people with zero experience
Aww~ that is such a pretty way of putting it 😌
I've been meaning to give it a shot, heard many good thing about it and lord knows we could all use a little comforting hobby to distract from the world sometimes.
Knitting and crocheting are great for me to calm down and not jump from one thing to another or be on the phone scrolling endlessly. I just need to do something with my hands
I hear you. I stitch things. Sort of sashiko but not really. Lots of tiny stitches. Maybe I'm hoping this hatching nightmare will be all over when my newest project is finished.
I knit too, mostly afghans. I started a new one about a year ago and put it away. I'm going to get it out again for peace of mind. BUT, we have a new, active cat and are wondering how he'll be around yarn and the Christmas tree. It's nice to worry about things like that when the world is crashing.
Knitting is an art. Playing an instrument is just following instructions - fingers here for this note - hold for 2 counts, yet there are masters known by their style. Share your pieces with pride!

I love it.
What better way, something practical that makes you feel better. Love it!
