So uh, update to this story. Her wife is currently the prime suspect and also that wife had previously served 13 years on prison for stabbing her first spouse to death in 2000.

So maybe domestic rather than political? IOW a typical murder?

Surely the prior is just. A coincidence, like that guy who had two wives die falling down stairs.

IIRC one explanation suggested was that a bloodthirsty owl had ambushed her, causing her to fall

This was obviously supposed to say 13 years *in* prison but I am too tired to redo the skeet.

I can't believe a firefighter would dive headfirst into a dangerous situation...

I misread it at first and thought the first spouse was also a fire chief.
That's a really, really specific type.

Talk about taking a chance on someone, giving them the benefit of the doubt and believing that they've changed only to have it backfire horribly.

I've seen someone change, for the worst, because they've become obsessed with giving people second chances without knowing what proper boundaries are.
They started neglecting their own mental health and pushed away people who cared about them when they expressed concern about their wel being.

People deserve second chances. That doesn't mean they're above the need for boundaries and skepticism.
The sad irony, both of the people they've helped are back in prison, and it's partially because a well meaning person enabled them.
