I took down my amazon post - I didn't realize there was a strike going on! Thank you to everyone who told me politely and wasn't a sanctimonious prick about it. π

Yeah, a strike only works if you can prove that your work is what makes the company go. There's no reason to do a strike during a HOLIDAY season if you don't wanna prove that the company would drown without your work.
Boycotts are there for a CONSUMER to say that they won't support some kind of practice (usually the use of their money for something). I'd say they are protest strategies that tend to be used together, but are to serve different purposes
If a strike is in person, workers can physically prevent people from going into the store. Relevantly, nobody doesn't know a strike is happening if you have to dodge 20 workers on the sidewalk.
It causes more chaos to Amazon if there's no one to fill orders on a busy day.
I mean, a strike and a boycott don't mix, do they... "We're not coming to work" "Okay, there's no work to be done anyway". I guess if you absolutely must buy from Amazon, now is the time. Make the scabs bleed.
I'm boycotting Amazon, been doing so for weeks now and the Washington Post too because Bezos refused to endorse Kamala Harris, which was a quiet endorsement of Trump. I should have boycotted a long time ago, based on everything else, but everyone gets roped in to cheaper pantry staples and pet food.
That would be an unusual tactical approach. Are you sure it came from a core workers organization? Not infrequently outside supporters say things they think are helpful but create confusion.
The only time I've ever crossed a picket line was when there was an Amazon strike in France I didn't know about and I bought something from Amazon.
Whoops.
So I'm an AMZN worker and my entire region isn't even unionized. Everyone is scared to even talk about it. I wish we coulda been a part of this movement.
The strike has not called for a boycott, as far as I can tell, it's very much a situation where it's perfectly justified not to want to give money to a company whose conditions are so bad the strike is necessary, but avoiding Amazon generally is not a requested solidarity action as far as I can see.
Hmm that will come as news to the people who were yelling at me about crossing picket lines, but I'll just leave it alone for the weekend to be on the safe side.
Thatβs not how strikes work. You just canβt get in there and do their work. As a customer, you just have to tolerate that some orders take a little longer.
It is very hard to explain to people who don't want to understand that the picket line in most cases is at the actual warehouses where people work and temp workers are being offered scabbing jobs, and not something a consumer can cross if there's no boycott call
Actually, in this case having more orders that cannot be fulfilled is more damaging to Amazon, as fast delivery is so important to them and their customers. To support the strikers and show Amazon how important they are, maybe people should buy more when they are on strike π€
But more, wait a couple days, then cancel the order for not showing up on time. You have to show that they lost the sales, not teach them that strikes drive sales up.
Amazon doesnβt use Canada post in Ontario they have another parcel service I got a parcel earlier this week but my current one delayed due to bad weather
Yep, and in Canada there is the Canada Post situation. Which I have a bunch of tabs on my computer on because I am a postal service fangirl. Protect our postal workers and stop them from going postal. Pun very much intended. For those two don't know I am going to explain the history of going postal.
Didnβt know there was an Amazon strike either! Sorry! Ordered some items that if traitor trumpβs inane & ignorant tariffs are implemented wonβt be able to afford! Live on SS which heβs threatening to take! Just trying to survive until Nov 3, 2026 & midterms! 33 Senate seats & all 435 House seats!
I had no idea they were striking but since Bezo's pulled WP editorial piece I have not shopped or bought one thing. I will be pausing my membership when it is up for renewal
Donβt worry about it. Theyβll piss you off in no time & you could have let your post stand!! One day I expected a big triangle wood & glass flag case for my beloved pops military burial flag. They sent me a case of Monster drink. I called them and asked who I had to sleep with to get my case!π€¬π€¬π€―
I didnβt know about the strike. I imagine, the more people buy during the strike period, the more it will prove the strikers point that they are needed.
Lol this won't be hard for me since I rarely go there. On the contrary that gives me flashbacks to the Valentine's dance with my now ex, then best friend.
Wow as an Amazon influencer I didnβt know this at all, Amazon has sent countless emails suggesting I make content for buyers to buy during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Iβm speechless πΆ
There needs to be a balance. If we all decide we should buy more when there's a strike, then it incentivizes Amazon to welcome a strike since it will apparently drive up sales.
I guess the best would be to order, then wait a few days and cancel the order due to not arriving on time. Lol that would canonize the lost sales as a result of the delivery delays. :)
I canceled the order I placed this morning. I took it as a sign that I didn't need the thing anyway. I didn't feel great buying it off of Amazon, either.

It seriously varies.
Whoops.
No AMAZON
Big businesses need the little people, far more than they would care to admit ππ
I came for the cats, staying for all the other awesomeness too
Thank you for being you.
We are boycotting Walmart though, FULLY. Hopefully forever. Let's take them out entirely, and get those employees better jobs!
I hope not too many people were assholes about it.
