Labour and the EU, a Beckett play:
Lab: "We want a closer relationship with Europe"
EU: "How about this?"
Lab: "No, not like that."
EU: "How about this?"
Lab: "No, not like that."
EU: "OK....how about this?"
Lab: "No, not like that."
Continue to general election and...curtain(s)

EU: "So, a customs deal then?"
Starmer: "No."
He's not a stupid man, so what can be the reason for his plank like denial that we must not join Europe in any way.
The fawning over the moron in America is sickening
- of Trump
- of RW MSM
- of Führage and RefUK
- of Tory attack lines which will be deployed anyway, whatever he does
- of Lexiter voters (but see polls) in RR and YC etc seats.
Do they want to lose next time?
My take is that Starmer will have to get something like this, but there is a hope here that the groundwork has been sorted by the very fact Europe are bringing it up
But like I said he didn’t deny it, the EU are bringing it up… there is a chance
The Europeans see and hear clearly that the British has no higher wish than doing Washington's bidding, whatever that may be.
And as Europe understands that the Americans most of all wishes for a weak and divided EU, Šefčovič will be reined in.
The PM is clearly a details man, but a Churchillian political leader, he is not.
But honestly, deep down I’m sick of this now. Glimmer of hope. Starmer snuffs it out.
Business is literally gonna crumble in this damn country.
Aging population etc etc.
KTTO is not necessarily going to be enough.
Also…why would a second term be any better…he would still be afraid of the RW press so he still wouldn’t move any closer to the EU.
He takes care of the hard Brexit until the lunatics return.

economy getting hit by tariffs
*doink*
"Wrong - trade deals are easy. YOU SUCK!"
"Thank you, Starmer"
"not for the moment" is very, very, weasel words.

Conservatives = 14 years of choas and mismanagement
Labour = 14 years to learn from the Tories and do the same
Starmer voted to trigger Article 50 😡

Where have you ever seen trade negotiations carried out in public?
Labour may be crap that got you into Iraq and out of Europe. But the alternative isn't exactly better.
“How about this?”
“No, not like that.”
Etc ad infinitum.
Labour and certainly not Reeves/Starmer Labour Party won’t do anything to change the awful Brexit they inherited.
Meanwhile, let's try not to make a bad situation worse.
If the Labour government has truly chosen to wait, hoping for a proposal from Washington, then it is completely unnecessary to blather about a desired EU-summit.
Šefčovič doesn't and Starmer's government doesn't.
But one is positive, one is less so.
I will be much harsher if after the summit they aren’t getting something like this.
Why are they being so foolish?!
