National Security Adviser Mike Waltz suggested that Atlantic editor Jeffery Goldberg hacked his phone to get into the Signal chat. Can The Atlantic sue Waltz for defamation with all these attacks on their staff?
These people think hacking is similar to how they do it in the movie Hackers still. The amount of technological knowledge these and most people in decision making positions lack is baffling. Making claims like this just makes them look dumber than people think they are, and that’s a low fucking bar.
And somehow if that was the case it makes the fact they were using signal to exchange classified information even worse. As excuses go, that’s a pretty bad one.
Luckily they are dumb, and they thought of this spin late and implemented it unconvincingly.
If they were better villains, they would have intentionally done this specifically so they could claim media hacked national security and then arrest the journalists.
Signal might take exception to that claim and sue for large damages, as when Fox News paid $0.75B to Dominion for their lying and saying their voting machines were unreliable.
This is absolute BS but let’s say for a minute he did…doesn’t that make it worse that a reporter can easily hack into this meaning that it is 100% not secure?
Lol, this is too funny! Instead of just owning up to a mistake, you’re saying you were hacked! Can you believe it? For a journalist to hack into an encrypted group is a way bigger deal than just getting added by accident. What a hilarious turn of events! Think before you talk.
What’s funny is that even if this were credible — which it absolutely isn’t — it would still be Hegseth’s fault for not using a secure, logged government communications system instead of Signal!
Bad argument either way.
If Signal can be hacked by reporters, then the Pentagon clearly should not be using it to chat about anything involving national security.
But let's say he hacked in....do they think it's a better look for them if a reporter can hack into the most highly sensitive communications between top level officials? Especially considering that using an app they'd be warned not to use would almost certainly make that easier.
…because when I’m texting with my buddies, I’m sure to include my most hated enemy. I mean, who doesn’t have the people they disrespect the most, in their contacts list?
Waltz said he was responsible, but I just saw another post that said a staffer is being punished for including the reporter in the chat. In other words, they found a scapegoat and made sure it was a woman. Not a single person on that chat will take responsibility for not verifying all participants.😡
It's the Trump administration. I know expect absolutely nobody to publicly take accountability for their monumental stupidity. Throwing staffers under the bus is the name of the game in this regime.
So this alleged staffer allegedly has access to his allegedly personal phone where he allegedly tries to hide conversations in an allegedly illegal way from organizations that should archive such conversations?
Does he even lock his phone? Know how to?
Or can anyone holding it access it?
Yeah....it's a real stretch to believe it was a staffer. Lots of people asking "so, why DOES he have the reporter's number in his contacts in the first place"?
none of their arguments do anything but make them look more incompetent and prove they have absolutely no business being anywhere near our NATSEC apparatus
they clearly don't give a fuck about the service members that were in harm's way during this op. I really hope this breaks through with active duty service members and their families.
The portion of the chat where the individual added the reporter has already been released, so claiming "he hacked in" just makes the "official" look stupid.
Even if that was true, which it’s not, it just reinforces the incompetence! Admitting they used an app that can be so easily hacked to send top secret information is the epitome of incompetence. Good grief 🙄
It isn't believable. But even if it were, if they'd been in a SCIF without their personal devices, as they should have been, there's no way an outsider could have "hacked in."
"All of us under Krasnov have been lying to the American people since Day 1...might as well keep it going.
Yeeeaah...great idea.
Besides, I'm on Fox News...not only are they all in on it, but even if they weren't...they wouldn't know honest journalism if it slapped them upside the head."
And the MAGAts will all lap it up. It's the reporter! Not the fact that they're detailing a military strike using fucking Signal on their personal fucking phones. I just talked to my Army vet buddy and he said if he did the same thing, he'd be in prison.
He had the number in his phone , he instigated the chat , he admitted he included him , then he changed his mind when pressed by Fox and then said it was ultimately his mistake . His answer varies according to who is asking the questions .
First of all… even if he did hack into it (he didn’t), they were still having secret war conversations on an unsecure, unencrypted, unregulated, non-government approved platform.
Signal is end to end encrypted but not invulnerable and not a secure platform for classified (or sensitive) military communications. A commercial chat app on personal cell phones is not secure
Waltz met Goldberg in France 2021. I bet Goldberg’s number was filed under some relevant heading (like “national security” lol). Then some poor sod (or Waltz’s own device) picked up Goldberg’s name by category and added him to the list.
One would need to know that a meeting was scheduled in order to hack in the first place. The second is that the very nature of using government approved secure coms is to avoid such hacking. They simply cannot accept responsibility for their mistakes and their excuses always make them look idiotic.
He hacked … ?
Because had an inkling that on THAT Saturday at THAT time you morons would JUST happen to be giving top secret military information about bombing YEMEN!
With the number of reports on his Venmo acct.. more like he sent him an “OOPS MY BAD” invite!
Waltz is starting to sound more and more like Cartman out of South Park making up his batshit excuses ffs.
I can now even visualise Waltz dressed in a red jacket with a woollen beanie hat on his head,
We all know this is one big fat lie just like what the administration is one big fat lie they all need to be fired, including Trump. Hopefully the judicial take care of that. He took care of Nixon. They can take care of Trump.
Goldberg published the “suckers” and “losers” story in The Atlantic. Why would anyone on Trump’s team invite that lowlife scum into the chat? Ponder this: Waltz was catfished by a friend of Goldberg’s to derail the success of Trump’s attack on the Houthi’s and create this scandal. https://tenor.com/3cp9.gif
I guess it's easier than trying to explain why he has a journalist's contact in his Signal app, because obviously Waltz would never, ever even think about leaking info to a journalist.
He's been a source for various media and is scared shitless MAGA world is gonna come for him.
His obvious lies in denying he knew Goldberg (he's a really poor liar), the Venmo trail connecting him to various other journalists, having Jeffrey in his contacts all point to his being a leaker.
These wankers are too stupid even to come up with a coherent lie, never mind a convincing one. These people are not evil geniuses, nothing so grandiose. They are nasty and deeply ignorant morons who've somehow failed upward to the very top of US government.
Fine. If that’s the case just one more reason using Signal was incompetence. Not to mention he was there for all to see but no one bothered checking to see who was in the group. Not only are they unqualified they are so arrogant they think they know everything.
If this is possible then why the F*#k are they on a platform that can so easily be hacked talking about highly sensitive subjects??!!! They can’t spin this in any way shape or form to make sense. This was a cluster f*#k of the highest order.
So wait:
A reporter, hack the signal encrypted servers, found the ip address of trump people, hack in to those devices, created a local account, made it an alias so it will see what the others were typing, then added it to the chat, dang!! He/she needs to be hired by musk 😅😅😅😅
The changing spew of excuses is getting tiring. They are so used to having their gullible maga followers accept anything that they can't keep their lies straight.
If Goldberg, personally, was astute & skilled enough to “hack in”, working, alone just imagine what Russian intel (with assets & capability comparable to the USA’s Nat Security Agency) has ALREADY achieved
Alternatively the Trump cabal may be using SIGNAL as an unprovable way to leak info to Russia
let's say he did hack is way in. It's STILL a VERY bad look for Waltz and Hegseth. You were illegally using an unsecured, unapproved method of communicating top secret information. If a journalist hacked into it, so can China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, or any of our enemies.
If a journalist can hack their way into Signal chats of top level government officials, then Russia/China/North Korea/Canada/Mexico/Greenland/Yemen/DOGE are probably already there.
Personally this doesn’t matter. TBH I would like the US plans to commit war crimes were publicized. The government moved from undocumented to documented residents. How long until it is citizens being deported

It Would Indicate That The App Isn't Secured Enough For Official Use By The Government.
I'm Naive To Think They Will, But I Am Praying They Learn From These Mistakes.
If they were better villains, they would have intentionally done this specifically so they could claim media hacked national security and then arrest the journalists.
Thank god they even suck at sucking.
If a nefarious bad guy "hacked" their group chat, they're STILL very shitty at their JOBS.
Even their best bullshit is utterly meaningless.
If Signal can be hacked by reporters, then the Pentagon clearly should not be using it to chat about anything involving national security.
“Lock. Him. Up.”
People simply wont know whats true or otherwise after you've peddled a few dozen misleading statements.
And anybody that falls for the "I got hacked" with this fiasco really is a trump voter.
You done f***** up

🤷♀️
If a journalist with no skills can hack it, the people who try to hack things for a living, you know the enemy, certainly can.
These dozens of new attempts to find an excuse that someone will buy just shows that they’re full of manure.
But when it comes to me they just may be right.
This Is Why We Need To Remain Standing Tall, Staying Focused & Never Giving Up!
Take Care Zapp! 👍

(Note: This Was Re-Skied/Re-Posted Since There Was A Typo! 😄)
Have these people never SEEN the people he has thrown under the bus before? Trump told them they were special and they believed him.
Does he even lock his phone? Know how to?
Or can anyone holding it access it?
It gets lonely in parking lots and who among us hasn't hacked into a classified government meeting just to pass time?
So simple for that to be proven, release the chat history in its entirety.
Yeeeaah...great idea.
Besides, I'm on Fox News...not only are they all in on it, but even if they weren't...they wouldn't know honest journalism if it slapped them upside the head."
17% will believe some other line of bullshit.
21% will believe a third line of bullshit.
42%, 18%, whatever...
They just give them a bullshit menu and hope that their base can find a flavor they like.
Sure!
Now this has legs.
Long legs.
If he did hack in, THAT FURTHER INDICATES THAT SIGNAL WAS NOT AN APPROPRIATE TOOL TO BE USING IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Lets go lads make something of your life
Signal is end-to-end encrypted, though. The problem is mostly with the devices and definitely the **users** on each of those ends.
I would argue that it is highly secure for what it is meant for, at least relative to what else is publicly available.
Because had an inkling that on THAT Saturday at THAT time you morons would JUST happen to be giving top secret military information about bombing YEMEN!
With the number of reports on his Venmo acct.. more like he sent him an “OOPS MY BAD” invite!

His obvious lies in denying he knew Goldberg (he's a really poor liar), the Venmo trail connecting him to various other journalists, having Jeffrey in his contacts all point to his being a leaker.
Because a journalist “hacking” into a private chat group is not a thing.
Idiots.
"Goldberg was hacking in the vicinity of the Ukraine"
#sarcasm

So, yes, all that and also they're lying to cover up their fuck up.
But also, more yes. If you believe it's easily hackable, then this additional fact goes onto the 'dumb' side of your smart/dumb scales.
