What was great about tiktok was that if you couldn't read, we would all rally and help you learn, not tear you down for something that likely wasn't your fault. Empathy and emotional intelligence mattered there.

State determines education standards for themselves. This implies that the less educated states won’t be on a read only site as much.

You need a VPN, turn off or fake your phone's location service with a set of mock GPS coordinates (they have apps that fake your location) and lastly they seem to be blocking the US version of the app, so you need a browser. Might also be blocking US accounts.

Good point Isaac, it is true the content creator is beholden to the platform (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.) and I agree if possible they need to become your customer, but in many cases these creators get much of their income from the platform itself, such as YouTube.

It wasn’t the point of the ban; it was to try to force a sale. The problem with that is TT have already stated that if sold, it would be without the algorithm— that makes it useless to buyers and also to users. Meta privacy concerns are well known, those posed by RN are substantially greater.

Whatsapp was acquired by Meta a while ago. I still have PTSD from paying thousands of dollars for long-distance calls to my in-laws in South America, so I can't quite break from it yet. Not sure if there is a WhatsApp equivalent that is "free" (at least apart from our data)

Given that this was a coordinated effort from the U.S. data collection platforms, including X, META, Truth Social, and AMAZON to force a divestiture, perhaps TikTok is playing their game. They could potentially give them some concessions, but like Game of Thrones end up with the iron throne.

I think it's a distraction. The news outlets led with the SC TikTok outcome instead of Biden's ERA declaration. They are all still talking about TikTok now. When 🍊💩 takes the oath and starts signing all those horrific executive orders they have in the works, they will save TikTok to distract us.
