I love a good book series and discovering one is always a delight. Watching the characters grow and develop, each new book is like returning to friends. What book series do you like? ππ #Booksky #Books

Beneath The Dragoneyed Moons. It has everything I could want. Lesbian MC, great plot, characters, world building, lore, and a great use of the LitRPG Mechanics with cool evolving classes and skills!
Hell there's even DINOSAURS!!
Given my username, it should not surprise you that "The Discworld Series" is my recommendation.
Besides being funny - it actually help me remain sane (for a given value of sane) and made me a better person that I used to me.
β Just started City of Brass series by S.A. Chakrabourty (loved it!) and looking forward to her female pirate series
β I absolutely am boggled and smitten by the Gamechanger/Dealbreaker duo by LX Beckett
β Naomi Novik's Scholomance - kinda like dark Harry Potter in space
(to be continued) #BookSky
β Thousand Kingdoms by NK Jemisin and Blood Moon duo are just *chef's kiss*
β the Tensorate series by Neon Yang is impeccable
β The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet series by Becky Chambers is a must for Firefly fans

I absolutely adore the Castleby series by @jmsimpsonauthorbsk.bsky.social
The characters are amazing and the place feels so real that I desperately want to visit it !
I'm on my second read through of the Patrick O'brian Master & Commander series. I realised this time that I hadn't appreciated the subtle humour in them on my first read.
Andrew Cartmell's "The Vinyl Detective" series and the follow up series, "The Paperback Sleuth". Oh and Ciamh McDonnell's Bunny McGarry series, set in Ireland.
All time favorite series is by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie Plum never fails to make me laugh and feel seen as a person. Every book I feel like Iβm back with friends.
I know people hate self promotion... so, If you would like to know more, PM me. I actually wrote a series of 4 books about a transgender serial killer. :)
Completely agree.
I love the Chronicles of Narnia.
But also... The Reckoners Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson, The Mothmar Trilogy by Amanda Auler (3rd one isn't out yet), Bewitcher's Beach Paranormal Cozy Mysteries Series by Emily Fluke, and Bow Wow Bakery series by Belinda Page.
Sooooo many!
@mwcraven.bsky.social Poe and Tilly series.
Mark Billingham's Tom Thorne AND Declan Miller.
@ianrankin1.bsky.social Rebus.
Karin Slaughter's Will Trent.
Peter James' Grace.
Jilly Cooper's Rutshire Chronicles.
Will Dean's Tuva Moodyson.
Oh I'm sure there's more!
I am a dedicated series reader; must read in order. Mysteries, funny, paranormal, New Orleans, South Florida. A few favorites: The Sisterhood series by Fern Michaels (35 books)
Sean Wyatt Archaeological Adventures Michael Dempsey
Kat Makris Greek Mafia; Alvarez Family Mysteries.
Mick Herron's Slow Horses.... the books are even better than the tv series and the characters are so well developed, an absolute joy to read again and again.
The Magicians Trilogy by Lev Grossman. Seventeen-year-old Quentin Coldwater (yes, we are fictionally related) in The Magicians is a loveable misfit. By The Magician's Land, he's a grownup loveable misfit. My absolute favorite series.
Iβm another fan of the #MaeveKerrigan series by @janecasey.bsky.social and #RoyGrace series by Peter James.
Thanks to βthe other placeβ Iβve recently been introduced to the David raker series by Tim Weaver and I want to try the Castleby series from J. M. Simpson
KF Breene's Demigods of San Francisco series is my favorite. The series is an urban fantasy where Magical people are "out" and San Francisco is divided into sections: magical, non-magical and in-between.
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
Gunnie Rose by Charlaine Harris (Also Harper Connelly by the same)
The Cursebreaker series and the Defy the Night series by Brigid Kemmerer
I read a book ages ago, lost it somehow but it was about vampire clans, twisted blood magic and it was also had a rather dark eros side thrown in. Is was explicit but I really got into it. Does anyone know such an author. Oh I believe they wrote a series of them also. Thanks for any help π
The Thursday Murder Club series, i like that they sort of present themselves as small-town whodunits but are really more character studies with lots of solidly British humor
I love a good binge listen and my favourites are #TheRiversofLondon by Ben Aaronovitch, #TheChroniclesofStMarys and #TheTimePolice both by Jodi Taylor and of course #TheThursdayMurderClub by Richard Osman.
Iβm reading Sarah J Maas βThrone of Glassβ series. Halfway through and all I want to do is read. Itβs fantasy and not my usual genre at all but came so highly recommended I had to try. So glad I did.
The Poppy War Trilogy is my favourite series of all time. The attachment I have to the characters is unmatched. They are the type of characters which you dont stop thinking about.
I definitely recommend it but make sure to read Trigger Warnings first as it deals with some gritty stuff
@itzstephielynne.bsky.social Y'all might like the Nevernight trilogy by Jay Kristoff. I've been calling it a mix of Dune, Pirates of the Caribbean, Gladiator, and the darkest Harry Potter you can imagine. Very gritty, very intense, but builds SO WELL.
There is a manga series called Real that is very character development driven. Not warm and fuzzy, but it makes you feel good and cheer for them as they grow π
Has to be the Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick OβBrian. An unhurried, immaculately written, unspooling (though not in the sense of unraveling) of two wonderful characters, their lives, their friendship, and their times. Returning to friends is exactly how I think of these books ππ
My most recent find has been the #Castleby series of books by @jmsimpsonauthorbsk.bsky.social where I became invested in the characters, their lives & wanted to know what happened next. I've just finished the Christmas edition which was a lovely bonus with some new people as well as the familiar.
More people should read the Skulduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy. It's got strong Harry Potter vibes, but set in Ireland. The 11 yr old thrust into a world of magic is a girl, and there is a LOT more physical combat (she gets hurt, sometimes very badly). It's really entertaining and funny.
Best series out there. Skulduggery pleasant has had a hold on me since I was a kid and I still regularly listen to the audibooks now at 24. I'm a bit adhd and these books just take me away from reality. @dereklandy.bsky.social is the greatest
Always Rebus, but I like Michael Connelly's trick of giving established characters cameos in books set in his wider world. The new one is Ballard's book, but we catch a glimpse of Bosch and see how he's doing...
So many good suggestions here! Iβve been reading the Martin Walker Bruno, Chief of Police series. Set in France, it follows the life and cases of Bruno, an orphan, ex military small village policeman and amateur chef (thereβs even a French cookbook in the series!)
The entire Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde, the Indian Lake series by Stephen Graham Jones, and the Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters are my all time faves. The Scholomance series is phenomenal. And itβs just a cozy, but I do enjoy The Maid series as well.
My two current favorites are the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher and then the Alex Cross Series by James Patterson. But my all time favorite is the forgotten Realms cycle by R. A. Salvatore
Loved the Matilda Darke series although I am at least two books behind...same with Tuva Moodyson π¬π¬ Back in the day I was committed to The Vampire Chronicles and Grant County/Will Trent series π
There are so many. Iβve enjoyed the Slow Horses franchise from Mick Herron. Recently I read Dave Hutchinsonβs Fractured Europe series which is worth a look.
Dungeon Crawler Carl. I am deeply obsessed. Lots of body horror, off the wall action and deep character moments. It's funny and sad and super messed up at the same time.
The Rivers of London series. Currently in the middle of LB Hathawayβs Posie Parker series, if youβre looking for cosy historical mystery. There are 16 books I think so Iβve still a way to go!
The Garden of Allah series by @martinturnbull.bsky.social
Itβs the epic story of 3 friends living in Hollywoodβs Garden of Allah beginning at the advent of talking pictures through the 1950s. I was so sad when the series ended.
Oh really! Like you rightly said, Character development is always a beauty to behold. Please do catch up when you can, or when it crosses your mind. We don't want Cross getting crossed with you, do we? Lol.
Anthony Trollope's Chronicles of Barsetshire is a wonderful series of six novels, published from 1855 to 1867, that involves hundreds of characters and an absorbing picture of Victorian life. Anthony Powell's A Dance to the Music of Time (1951-1975) is also excellent!
Making my way through The Murderbot Diaries rn and wow it's been a long time since I've been so giddy for getting to the next installment I have to read.
Currently working my way through The Cazalet Chronicles by Elizabeth Jane Howard. Enormously enjoyable and satisfying. She takes you inside the heads of a huge cast of characters, against the backdrop of the war.
Discovered and devoured this series earlier in the year! Incredible the way she manages to keep the reader involved with such a large cast of characters.
Too many to mention/remember...
Shoutout to only one:
Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells
(For those who know: This series is to me what "Sanctuary Moon" is to Murderbot.)
I've enjoyed C.S. Harris' Sebastian St. Cyr series as well as Sherry Thomas' Lady Sherlock series. Another vote for @ellygriffiths.bsky.social Ruth Galloway series. The characters became so real that I missed them when I finished reading the last book.
I came here to recommend this series too. I loved the Dr Ruth Galloway books by @ellygriffiths.bsky.social I had a serious accident earlier this year and those books saw me through my recovery.
Absolutely. Ruth is such a great character, and I so enjoyed revisiting her world, both the beautiful Norfolk settings, and all the other characters around her- I was just as interested in her friends as the mysteries.

When I was younger I read Jonathan Gashβs Lovejoy stories once a year.
(All of Turneyβs series are wonderful for the reasons you state.)
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
Gunnie Rose by Charlaine Harris (Also Harper Connelly by the same)
The Cursebreaker series and the Defy the Night series by Brigid Kemmerer
Lois McMaster bujold.
If you haven't, just try it.
4x Hugo winner. 4x nebula winner. Won the inaugural Hugo for best series. Then she won it again the next year for a different series.
Absolute titan, and somehow not that well known.
(We all know why)
I definitely recommend it but make sure to read Trigger Warnings first as it deals with some gritty stuff
Michael Wood - Matilda Darke
M.J. Arlidge - Helen Grace
Certainly the lesser of two weevils.
I cannot wait for Dark Reading Matter

Thursday Murder Club series - Richard Osman
The Silo series - Hugh Howey
The Ables series - Jeremy Scott
Itβs the epic story of 3 friends living in Hollywoodβs Garden of Allah beginning at the advent of talking pictures through the 1950s. I was so sad when the series ended.
Also she brilliantly conveys the dread and fear of living through the outbreak of war
