It's amazing how many brainworms nerds can have, I have casually learned some wild shit about people at the table that I wouldn't admit after drinking enough whiskey to put me in the hospital
you can also support @monahijazi.bsky.social who is a palestinian single mother (for you cynical types, she's been verified as a real person by multiple people.)
What was his in story reasoning for oppression of the Palestinian stand-ins being good? Were they just like genetically bad in his eyes so any treatment if them was justified, deserved and for their own good or something? Also kind of a slimy thing for him to trick people with.
Even if it wasn't related to a horrible genocide, it's game mastering 101 that you can't control the player's actions.
They are going to do unexpected things, and if the GM can't deal with that, then they shouldn't be a GM in the first place.
It's for the best. You don't really want to play an 80-year game of dnd do you? You'd have to put it in your will hey if you want to inherit my junk you gotta join this dnd campaign
I remember this, I still cant imagine what the game was like. The dude had total control of how to represent the Palestinian stand-ins and apparently was really accurate to the conflict to get this result. Beggers belief that people can be so blinkered but here we are.
When one of your core beliefs is essentially "brown people bad no matter what!!!" even if you don't recognize that's what's going on, then you can setup this exact situation and get blown away by more empathetic people doing an empathy. Like how it's going irl.
Yeah, that was probably just it, I don't remember if any details were shared but it was probably just the guy hoping for the party to do some by the books orc murder that got turned on its head.
Israel's existence in the modern world has never gone uncontested; Multiple Arab countries have tried, failed, and even lost territory in their bids to prevent Israel from becoming a recognized and autonomous country.
the situation became fertile grounds for politicians and citizens that believed any grievance with Israel *must* be solved with as much brutality and finality as possible.
No matter the context, as long as Israel is faced with opposition of any sort, it and it's sympathizers view it as an-
I really enjoy The Last of Us Part 2 but haven't played it in a few years. I also haven't heard this comparison, so I'm curious what parallels you're making between the conflict and the game. Do you care to elaborate?
Okay. I can see that. He did a fucking awful job with that allegory imo. The wolves aren't worthy of empathy whatsoever, and the scars wouldn't have been so downtrodden if the wolves wouldn't have been hunting them.
Not a conflict... a conflict implies equal sides, it's an Isreali occupation, a genocide, ethnic cleansing and a settler colonial project.
For Palestine it's resistance in the face of all of this oppression.
Hello, sorry to bother you, my friend. My family and I are in dire need of food. Please, can you help me by quoting the tweet, sharing it, and donating if you can? 💔😭🙏
But, like, he must have done something to try to make the Israel Stand-Ins look good or the Palestinian Stand-ins look bad, right? What were the specifics????
i know im not the person being asked and you're talking about a homebrew'd setting for it but the actual worldbuilding and mechanics if pathfinder are like, my favorite in any ttrpg by far
i dont think mine does or i absolutely would. but our dm is taking june off for mental health purposes and i dont know that adding a new player shes never met would be feasible
did you ever have an inkling of what was going on or was it a "all the pieces coming together" situation when you found out about the dude being a zionist
we honestly just thought that his efforts to portray the israel proxy as the Good Guys were just him making writerly attempts at adding depth/complexity to what was, to us, obviously the wrong side to be on!
"are you people really that dense? these are brown people! BROWN PEOPLE! they worship your god but they do it wrong! you're supposed to HATE THEM! it's BASIC LOGIC! now, stomp on that terrorist baby and let's get this campaign back on track"
i only wish that campaign had lasted long enough for that group to pull a proper Henderson, because that was CERTAINLY a GM who deserved to have an ice rink full of explosives go off in his planned endgame's face
It's extremely zionist to have, quite literally, absolute narrative control over what's going on and still manage to fuck that up as a propaganda piece.
I need details. Who the hell was the palestine stand-in, was it just unironic manifest destiny, why was he trying to hype you up for israel in dnd, how does that work-
it was honestly a relatively generic group revolting against a corrupt buraeucratic galaxy-wide empire haha! there wasnt really glaring THIS IS PALESTINE details, probably bc the dm was devoid of the empathy required to do that adeptly
I think they're not, I think DM wanted the party to side with the empire stomping out the rebellion on the grounds that "They're attacking the great empire! I know we're not perfect but we're the rightful ruler!" or something
Oh yeah TLOU2 starts getting into weird “this is fine because the holocaust was bad”-ism because Ellie’s gf is Jewish and Neil “ Will Never Be As Good as Kojima” Druckmann is double extra strength Zionist
To be fair the game writers and now the show writers were like “oh the Wolves are Israel? Let us open with the head dude fragging his own men and then torturing a man, both with deadeyed stares”
like, I want details: who was supposed to be proxy for Israel and/or Palestine? elves & orcs? dwarves and... halflings? ELVES AND DROW??!! I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS
This is fucking insane and I sincerely wish I knew the whole story hoooly shit
Also, downright impressive how, despite the GM doing their damndest to bring your group to side with the Israel-proxy, still made it easier to side with the Palestine-proxy.
Did... he expect you to take that seriously? And... not question why anyone was keeping an immortal child prisoner and maybe wanna address that? (Sacrifice one of the party is also... not great at making it seem evil. Heroic sacrifice is a thing!)
I had a similar experience where my dm he brought us to a town that hated every non-human race with no heads-up, and then a few sessions later exposited that "humans always discriminated against non-humans, but then it got worse when the non-humans rioted and burned and looted buildings"
Yes this happened around the time of the BLM riots, and while I paraphrased slightly to meet the text limit, he fully ripped the racist rhetoric that was being spread and just changed certain details to fit with DnD.
Oh I forgot to mention the part where, yes, the non-human races were supposed to be the bad guys, and even the dwarf NPC who was expositing it all to us agreed with it.
One of serious gaps in propaganda effectiveness is that it only works when the subject doesn't realize there is propaganda, and that there is something to manipulate in the narative. That's why regimes want uniformity - everyone has to receive the samme propaganda message.
OMG ITS YOU!!! The way I would SPIRAL out if this was me. I a have full Palestine banner behind me whenever my group plays (and always, it hangs on my shelf). I have so many questions but also thank you.
i feel like i must have brought it up at the time but i need to restate for the record that near exactly this happened in a roleplaying group of mine except her oc was based on dzhokhar tsarnaev
The stuff about being space cops and it being bad to rescue animals and also the resistance's big evil act was apparently weaponizing a lizard against cop city?

It wasn't Star Wars, was it?

Its an extremely exploitable situation, and one the citizens of the US have also been exploited by via Pearl Harbor and then 9/11.

‘You what!’
TLDR, Neil Druckman is a hardline Zionist who hates Palestinians so much that he made a game that hoped to make players feel the same hate he does but to our fictional proxy.

kinda symbolic of how zionists are fleeing israel in spite of them claiming to "be destined to live and die there"

I feel like that's a fundamental failing of every Islamophobic imperialism (hi war on terror)

I REALLY wanna know what they were thinking
And your party was ostensibly good?
O...kay...
and yet he was easily blown the fuck out by the entire party seeing through his shit
fascinating
