As a little kid who was *absolutely fascinated* with animation I used to love watching Disney movies & shows in particular not b/c I liked them but b/c I wanted to study them to draw better.
Now, the thought of watching Moana 2 bores me & the thought of watching Mufasa repulses me. How times change

Then I look at how Disney in particular treats Moon Girl or Owl House or Gravity Falls and it all becomes disheartening in a different way.
Milo's return was just the only three episodes of the cancelled TV show that got finished before they shitcanned it strung together
I'm sure it's quite annoying when a parade of "debate experts" wanders up to you.
The backgrounds all had a wonderful hand painted look to them, it played with the framerate in the titan fight, and just everything with the style of the Big Bad Wolf.
I didn't expect it from the Shrek franchise at all!
Could be related to bigger money interests that come with the draw of blockbusters.
Like how smaller indie games have been getting really up there in terms of quality despite the smaller team sizes. Especially the past decade or so.
the sheer amount of character the art has makes the original movie look weird and sterile to me now, and that movie on its own is very solid
A show aimed at a ypung audience moved to the niche Disney channel, what did they expect?
The new movies suck now
MUFASA didn’t exist when I was a kid, and if it did I would’ve hated it because it looks like shit.
Most people are afraid to even consider there might be evil entities out there, so they go fairly unopposed.
The results are evident, however. These feelings you're experiencing are proof.
and you'd think they'd talk about the process of the animation or what decisions were made in development...
Instead he talked about how they reinvented trees for an hour...

Bluesky needs an editing feature
I was so excited for Disney movies, for the animation and music, but they have lost their way.

I do love the 2D animated shows cropping up on like YouTube and like Netflix and other streaming services.
Sorry for the long post
The demand for high-quality animation and original stories hasn’t gone away, they just need execs who care about animation again.
Like The Wild Robot, there's just some films that have soul, and others (like Moana 2) that don't.
Disney rarely makes stuff with soul anymore
Its art and story actually try to convey a message unlike Moana 2.
Guys it's woodblock stop motion baby owls :o
what a goddamn great piece both stylistically and story-wise, thank you for the rec john!!
The endless parade of cash grabbing sequels, reboots and live action remakes is a constant reminder that they care more about the dollar than the creativity that founded their original business.
I need more Fantasia
(yes, I know the originals were all taken from other's literary works...)
Referenced all the time when I did animation on the side.
It will be even more sad if they turn in for AI slop.
I don't even want to see Snow White live-action remake because of Gal Gabot, an Isnotreal woman and former IDF member.
Take away the soul with corporate greed, it translates in the feeling of the finished product
Once you see it, you can't unsee it. A lot of these sequels seem the same. Chaotic.
I felt so bad for the animators throughout.
I wish our industries were kinder too!
Audiences never lost their love. Companies just told them they did.
A hit skeet...
I wish I had new art to share, but I've been busy with work.
I hope that's no longer the case, since you're union now?
(moana 2 ep coming whenever I can edit it)
Thankfully, this year hasn’t been a complete loss for animation.
Buuuut I could also be missing the point, so let me know if I went on the wrong tangent lmao
Studio Ghibli is a given.
and like as a movie i do not particularly like bambi! i find it quite boring! but DAMN it is one of the most beautiful things i’ve ever seen
Younger me would have never expected this switch up. 😩
