"We don't want your swasticars Take a one way trip to Mars" goes so hard as a rally chant

every american sees this in their vision after eating a cheeseburger

I think most of who have worked in writing or entertainment know that piracy is a fact of life, and has been for a long time now. But there’s a difference between a broke student downloading a PDF of your book, and a multibillion dollar company stealing your work for its own bullshit purposes.

america is a failed country. no way to fix this but to break it up into dozens of smaller places with their own government, though we would need an overarching government managing the smaller ones to facilitate security, trade, and open borders between territories.

I'm dying

And thou mayest aske thyself, 'How do Ich werke thys?' And thou mayest aske thyself, 'Wher ys that large destrier?' And thou mayest telle thyself, 'Thys nys not my beautiful castle!' And thou mayest telle thyself, 'Thys nys not my swift goshawk!'

What’s something that’s a banal observation in your field, but which really blows students’ minds the 1st time they encounter it? I’ll go 1st—when we talk about how technological history gets narrated & I say "no human being has ever lived in a historical period—they’ve only lived in the present"

so soothing to watch.

Hey remember that time a bunch of losers got mad at a lady who made a video game about depression and it led to several thousand federal employees losing their jobs

A giant of 20th century playwriting and a hugely important dissident artist reviled by his home country's government, a category about which we should probably start re-educating ourselves. RIP Athol Fugard. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/09/o...

if you were ever a fan of the comic Pictures for Sad Children & wondered what happened to the artist, these days she's out as a trans woman and has been struggling with poverty & access to medical care but still making art, & could use some help with stable housing www.gofundme.com/f/help-simon...

Put the word out that we're back. Think of us. We open 4/20 for a short window for a print issue in the fall. We want poems, prose, art, comics & beyond. Free to submit, free to read online always, we now pay $150 + comp copies + eternal literary infamy. More prestigious than the Paris Review.

One of the things DS9 does best is the TOS Klingons reappearing as old men with their original actors.

Resist, insist, persist

“If only I could find the frayed edge of my threadbare spirit. Then I could connect all the loose ends.” Sophie Strand reflects on creating personal narratives of illness and health.

New internet restrictions at the embattled SSA have cut off access to WIRED, along with other “general news” websites like The Washington Post and The New York Times.

It's wild how you have a small handful of Discord execs standing to make millions who are like, "This is sick," while everyone else is, like, "Welp, time to uninstall Discord," and this just keeps happening over and over and over to different companies that offer genuine services to people.

Yes! Move to Philly! It’s a great city that is more affordable but has the same amenities as D.C. Help turn Pennsylvania blue! apnews.com/article/trum...

A guide to the cult favorite Adult Swim series Space Ghost Coast To Coast, whose voice cast was led by the late George Lowe.

I’d personally like to think that Space Ghost is up there chatting it up with Zorak and Moltar like the good old days. Rest In Peace George Lowe. Thank you for helping me shape my sense of humor. 💔

It has come to my attention that some folks still have not seen the term "acoustic bike" (as in, not an ebike) and in case that's you, today is your lucky day

A friend asked me to put together a list to give out to friends of hers who are looking to get activated/involved, some for the first time. I used the list below as an intro to types of ways to get involved, and then followed it with specifics for local orgs. Thanks @itsafronomics.bsky.social !

Saving…ah yes, that thing people on SSI can’t do much of without losing their benefits?

A lesser-known power of Shirley Jackson's 'The Lottery' is where it comes in its collection. Spoilers, but I suspect you know how 'The Lottery' ends. It's famous for a reason. But this is important: Jackson arranged the collection it was named after, and she chose the arrangement. 1/

congrats to all the liberals calling the attacks on trans people in the U.S. "tragic but inconsequential since there aren't all that many of them" for finally finding out what they'd have done in 1930s germany

I think I need to read more of Jennifer Haley's plays.

i want to see this energy and not a scintilla less

the real difficulty that AI presents is that it genuinely is a productivity enhancer for things that you know how to do already, but it actively inhibits you learning how to do things. in an ideal world you'd be somehow banned from using it for things until you could like pass a test or something.

It perfectly encapsulates the age of social media.

I am once again asking for your support in destroying a fascist snitch line

Write it and tell everyone you're a writer. That's the plan.

Me: Everything is so awful. Am I going to lose my healthcare? Should I be leaving the country? The microplastic spoon in my brain: Be still, my child. Be calm. Send another email. Drink a Diet Coke. Watch The White Lotus Sundays at 9.

just forwarded this link to my mother, who i know is looking for cute cat videos and goofy jokes to send me. i've had to share a lot of warnings like this with her lately.

Last day to do this - highly recommend stashing them somewhere just so you have the option lifehacker.com/entertainmen...

Dramaturgy IS a safety tool. As an actual play channel that deals with intense topics, we employ a structured (and fun!) internal process for breaking story with our cast, which involves discussing the overall narrative structure of each Arc—and major beats that may arise in each session. 1/4 🧵

Remember when rich people funded the arts not because they expected a return on investment but just for the sake of having more art? We were really cooking with that one.

I still believe in Gene Roddenberry's vision for the future

as someone who is pretty selective about horror games, i'm glad i finally made time for "mouthwashing." it was, and i say this with the utmost affection and respect, a *deeply* unpleasant and disturbing experience. i loved it.

YO, for anyone into Severance, and ambient music, Apple had ODESZA do a fucking 8 hour long themed "Music To Refine To" set, and its freakin great. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRnD...

One thing DOGE has gutted is an effort to REFORM how the US divvies up donated organs. www.propublica.org/article/trum...

don’t know who needs to hear this but empathy doesn’t require eagerness. you don’t have to be excited about helping other people, you do it because it’s right and because the alternatives are worse
