Speaking at an anti-DOGE rally, 85 year old congressman Steny Hoyer references a Reagan appointee who served in his first term circa 1980s (I had to look this up). "You remember the name Don Devine? That was patty cake compared to Russell Vought."

this is put very concisely and I just wanna report from middle age that you can fight this within yourself. it happens! you soften! but you just keep checking in with yourself and being sure that softening is toward people who are threatened, who have it worse than you. simple internal housekeeping!

After some MIT students publish an opinion piece in the campus paper criticizing a professor's work with the Israeli military, the paper stops publishing op-eds entirely. A perfect example of how campus speech works in 2024. mondoweiss.net/2024/12/desp...

Lots of clarity today

2 Teamsters were detained by NYPD today. Neither were charged, both were released on the scene an hour later. Teamsters brotherhood is now seeking a RESTRAINING ORDER against NYPD due to their unlawful actions against the strike on behalf of Amazon today.

They took Dylann Roof to Burger King after he killed nine people.

Luigi got them shook.

Luigi Mangione’s fellow prisoners yelled “Luigi’s conditions suck” and “Free Luigi” from their cells in Pennsylvania during an interview: www.newsnationnow.com/banfield/lui...

I actually think the politics of the assassin have almost no bearing here. We’ve seen the class consciousness of the response and his incoherent beliefs do little to nothing to change that.

Lmao they're so scared, this is deranged

We are in the Midst of one of the rare periods where a whole host of constructed narratives and intentional narrative voids are starting to collapse, and it presents a real opportunity for things to change in a real way.

MSNBC is reporting that the backpack that the Midtown shooter ditched in Central Park was full of Monopoly money

This really proves that the rights game of divide and conquer is very very thin and we have a massive weapon to break their hold on narrative. We can and must work to break the rightwing spell of race and gender as a weapon and turn the conversation to the far right being an arm of wealth.

Apropos of nothing, thru my spouse‘s job we have “ good” insurance. 5yrs ago, I had knee replacement &they made me jump thru 1 million hoops ofc (& we were out of pocket $$$$ too). 1 month later, they sent me a 5-figure bill for the full amount. They *retroactively* unapproved it & demanded I pay up

I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding of the positive public sentiment surrounding the CEO killing. That positive reaction isn't about people wanting gun violence or murder, it's about people thirsting for accountability for rich ghouls. And knowing our courts won't deliver it.

post like you're gonna hear it read back to you in a strange stilted cadence by a federal prosecutor with no sense of humor.

just kind of thinking about the fact the nyt sent a breaking news alert when a college kid said something dumb about Zionists but not when Amnesty International said it had determined that Israel is committing genocide

All jokes aside it's really fucked up to see so many people on here celebrating murder. No one here is the judge of who deserves to live or die. That's the job of the AI algorithm the insurance company designed to maximise profits on your health and no one else

I've spent the past year interviewing Hannah Byrne, a former Counterterrorism policy manager at Meta who quit the company after coming to believe she helping build a racial profiling censorship machine. She shares her story today for the first time. theintercept.com/2024/12/04/m...

A student reporter at Stanford embedded with pro-Palestinian protesters. Cops arrested him alongside them, which he knew was a risk. What he didn't expect: Stanford pushing prosecutors to charge him criminally with burglary, vandalism, and conspiracy—all felonies. www.cjr.org/getting-the-...

Today we remember the legacy of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson

oh wow

In one of the strangest chapters of my life, I spent several months in the trenches of Big Headlight, looking to understand just how and why headlights became brighter than the sun. Answers, graphs, penis sketches—it's all here, on the brand new Ringer site: www.theringer.com/2024/12/03/t...

A staggering statistic: Every $100 increase in median rent is associated with a *9 percent* increase in the estimated homelessness rate, according to a report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office. The math of our housing crisis is brutally clear.

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions has announced that it will begin an indefinite general strike tomorrow, demanding the immediate resignation of President Yoon Suk-yeol.

Mentions on CNN and MSNBC since Election Day: Woke, wokeness, or identity politics: 482 Populism or populist: 166 Labor unions: 55

Evidence has demonstrated this effect in numerous cities now. I understand why it sounds weird to say, 'building a bunch of fancy new townhouses and skyscrapers will make housing more affordable!' but it simply appears to be true.

I'm at the National Assembly building. The army is here. And I just saw two soldiers in fatigues getting pushed around by belligerent ajusshis. and they looked legit scared.

Dec 2nd update: Thanksgiving effect hasnt kicked in yet, but we're >4x ⬇️ lower than same week average of prior years. We're about to have the first winter holiday season without a significant wave. Arrows to Nov 20, 2022+2023. 🔸196,000 new infections/day 🔸1 in every 170 people currently infected

Voter: I'm tired of being kicked in the nuts Pollster: Are you in favor of or do you oppose nut kicking Voter: in Favor of Pollster: um ok Do you think it will hurt Voter: oh yeah

had our organizing training 101 and it went great!! as a taste here's one of the exercises we did about building an Organizing Committee. it's an introductory one and it was only given 15 minutes for group discussion, so it's pretty simple (and easy, imo), but it has a couple important lessons!

That's why there's an aggressive effort now to blame "identity politics," it's a retcon because Harris ran exactly the campaign centrists wanted, catering to conservatives, never criticizing Netanyahu, never blaming billionaires or big corporations, the works—just to lose to Old Man Yells at Cloud.

I could not sit silently while an elected official who spreads hate and lies that are killing my community pretends to care about Internet freedom.

"If a woman doesn't look woman enough to a Republican, they want to be able to inspect your genitals to use a bathroom? It's disgusting. Everyone should reject it completely... they're endangering women, they're endangering girls of all kind, and everyone should reject it. It's gross." - AOC

The US just vetoed *another* UN Security Council resolution. It demanded "an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire" & "immediate and unconditional release of all hostages." 14 voted in favor. 1—the US—opposed. This is the 4th UNSC ceasefire resolution US has vetoed.

On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder. Some leaders should learn this lesson.

Those Nazis marched through Columbus yelling the n-word and other slurs over a bull horn. You think the black people who marched the next day weren’t scared? Maybe our fear means nothing to you. Black people in Columbus were scared and marched ANYWAY. Other scared groups just put out statements.

I had to interview a crying mom talking about her dead son for this story, so it would be nice if it got read reason.com/2024/11/19/t...

1/ HOW TO TRIAGE AN IMMIGRATION EMERGENCY As someone who has been defending non-citizens in deportation proceedings since 2006, I am here to tell you that we know exactly who Trump's top targets will be, & how we can try to protect them NOW. NOT LEGAL ADVICE but here's what we know about priorities

"Resistance will demand we defend groups that are singled out for political prosecution in Project Esther, including SJP and JVP. If we participate in the dismantling of our democracy, and accept the degradation of equality under the law, we threaten our own future." forward.com/opinion/6760...
