My latest labeler is finally working!
What it shows for each politician
- 3 labels for the top corp donators
- 3 labels for the top industries that donate to them
Subscribe to this labeler to be more aware of the interests our politicians represent 🚀

If you see a person who isn't on here feel free to DM the labeler or me!
I'm glad to be doing my part to hold politicians accountable and to make it more transparent for the average citizen to see how those politicians are funded

If someone subscribes to the labeler they can see the labels
they could appeal to me to remove, I would deny

1 How do I see the labels I am subscribed to?
2 How do I flag or tag an account or post for the labeler to... label?
Thanks!
2. I do, I have code that grabs dat from open secrets and automates the process
3. not much tbh, but i'm a benevolant dictator
4. yes, that's the point kinda (ex: Lets label and autoblock maga, this already exists)
2) Pramila Jayapal takes donations from Valve???
The labeler also follows all those accounts so they should know 🙃
One feature request: does the data also allow you to determine what percentage of their total donations each donor/industry would be?
Two representatives could have the same top donor, but if it’s 25% of one’s funding vs. 5% of another’s it can mean very different things.
I'd like to see their achievements on behalf of the people
Is there a labeler for that?
Some go unrecognized & others have done nothing in decades
It would be helpful to their constituents. Awareness matters
I wish I was a brainac to do it myself. I just have ideas but hv no experience doing what you do
Maybe someone on your feed is smart like that & can run with this.
I’d like to more than corporate work alone

Good lookin' out, sir.
Thank you for your service.
A tiny suggestion, if you feel like it:
It looks like they currently sort alphabetically? Intuitively I expected them to be ranked by donation amount with the largest donor first. Maybe order them that way instead?
Not a big deal either way, and again, thanks!

1. Update the scraper to do the math and generate string with low/mid/high
https://github.com/hipstersmoothie/us-gov-contributions-labeler/blob/main/src/scrape.ts
2. Regenerate the data by running the script "pnpm create-labels"
Then once we had that I could clear the db and deploy your changes
I do plan to add more in the description to encourage people to look at the real data
Don't know how hard that data is to cross-reference.
Please carry on.
I'll noodle on it
for the data I got it from https://opensecrets.org/
Also welcome to having *so many* salty people in your mentions trying to explain this away - if my experience is anything to go by haha
Surprisingly few salty people. They did make me reexamine the data and add some warnings. Didn’t change my mind on transparency though
Could probably learn more here https://opensecrets.org/
#trumpLies #GodSaveUs #resist
https://site.financialmodelingprep.com/developer/docs/senate-trading-api
that one might be harder though. a senator might have many stock positions and only showing so few doesn't really give too much insight
That scraper is good stuff! I wonder if you can link out to the opensecrets page in the label descriptions?
Dunno if there is a way to make real links
for now i'm okay with manually managing it
im already subscribed to it, but i just gave it a ⭐️ on github!
really wish i knew TS or python, like, any % better to be able to get through bskys Getting Started section😅; but it's inspiring work!
