It's pretty great! Surprisingly novel take on the kinda-tired "wizard school" setup, great characters, an incredibly cool magic system, and unbelievable art (the Kamone Shirahama exhibit at the last Angoulême was absolutely gobsmacking).

Amazing: showing the characters adventures at a street fair/festival via tabletop game-board.
Every volume of Witch Hat Atelier has something amazing it.

There's a "first work must be at least 30 years ago" requirement, which kinda explains some of the (relatively) younger ones.

(And, French-speaking friends, please correct me if I'm totally wrong about the meaning/usage of this word! 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷)

That's the artist, Shag. Based out of Palm Springs. Yeah, love the print!

I'm always surprised at how often I talk to hardcore manga readers (in the US) who have no idea who he is. I kinda think here he's a bit of a "cartoonist's cartoonist" here.
Japan—where he has a freakin TV show—is obviously a different deal.

The Columbus system generally has an amazing comics and manga selection. But, like most systems, they go heavy on the really popular stuff. Actually a good sign that Asadora is now a wait. People must be discovering it!

I draw at 170%, plus the last book I did traditionally was big European albums size... so pre-cut was unfortunately not an option for me. But, yeah, buy the cheapest by sq in you can--it ain't cheap!

I order in the big sheets from Dick Blick and then cut them to size. If you order a heap at once you'll easily get past the free shipping threshold.

The ply number is how thick/stiff it is... but heavier is more expensive. I draw on a drafting table and/or drawing board so I go with the cheaper 2-ply. If you want something that feels heavy, go up to 3- or 4-ply. The latter is as heavy as illustration board. You can't beat 500 plate for nib use!

IMHO Strathmore 500 series bristol board, plate finish. 2-ply is fine.

It's... A Thing.
Actually we had a blast at it. I love pretty much any subculture—and fountain pen enthusiasts are amazing. Recommended!
