At this point I can only conclude that he views the entire world through a twitter feed populated by Russian bots.

Years ago a white editor* asked if I was biased about immigration stories because I'm an immigrant. I've been asked a version of this question dozens of times since. The driving idea is that people who embody difference introduce bias; it's the framework that maintains white supremacy in newsrooms.

Apart from anything else, the word "us" in the last sentence.

Premiering now: Is Trump the victim of rape allegations? Video from my utterly insnae debate with Freddy Gray - Spectator editor and MAGA-UK fan. I was utterly horrified by his willingness to minimise and cast doubt on women's testimony of rape www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZh6...

So proud of Praxis campaigners who are calling for a child poverty strategy which includes EVERY child.

Check out my interview about the Museum of All Things on the Godot Engine blog!!!! Thank you so much @coppolaemilio.com for the opportunity :)

I had some very angry teenagers trying to bash down my door last year because their tracker wrongly told them their AirPods were in my flat. So this seems very dumb.

🧵UK immigration department culture I’ve litigated against the dept for most of last 33 years, reading civil service files & witness statmts, sometimes talking confidentially to them. For almost 8 yrs, I sat on Gov Committee that writes rules for immigrt’n appeals & so consults directly with them 1/

The Starmer aide/AI stuff feels a bit canary/coalmine because this isn't letting electoral factors triumph over good governance or sinply doing something I don't like - things every government does - this is falling for a scam. There are people in Nunber 10 who are just idiots.

Going down memory lane when the migrants' right movement was unafraid to do some real campaigning. And when Labour had a strong values-based voice. Wondering if we would be able to get this strong a vocal outcry just 5 years later. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-poli...

I have a piece at the LRB blog on the UK government's intention to permanently block refugees from citizenship.

More in Common released a report today on Progressive Activists. Some parts resonated. I think it's helpful and requires some critical reflection. There is one point I disagree with - the idea that meeting people where they are is a successful mechanism to long-term change.

The % thinking being white is very important to being British fell to 3% in 2020 having been 10% in 2006 The % in England thinking white important to being English fell to 10% in 2020, was 20% in 2012. Scale of this shift surprises some on the liberal-left & now vocally contested by online right

happy presidents’ day everyone i wrote about DEI and how the anti-woke brigade loves eugenics www.theverge.com/politics/613...

An important intervention by Lady Chief Justice Carr, on a case 'that has been widely misreported and misunderstood.' The family of six from Gaza had sought permission to live with a British relative who proved he was able to house and financially support them. . www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The clarity the tech press is applying to the current political moment is such a contrast with the obfuscation and double-talk driving establishment journalism right now. Given how strongly the tech press has been captured by industry, it makes the contrast of outspokenness even more remarkable.

I clearly don’t know what’s good for me & nor does @jdportes.bsky.social because on 15th of May we will be debating that Matt Goodwin guy & Nadim Zahawi about immigration 😅 Would dearly love there to be a friendly crowd! Tickets: howtoacademy.com/events/welco...

It's UK Book Birthday for "Inventing the Renaissance!" Thought I'd share one of my favorite pages, about how the word "modern" is one of the most confusing words in the world, so defining Renaissance as "the birth of modern" is chameleonic & extremely manipulable. www.adapalmer.com/publication/...

Hard to see how the ‘I agree with Nigel’ gambit is going to be a vote winner.

History's largest and most famous disability access ramp! A look at its origins, with a twist toward the end about how the questions we ask of history change who feels like a good guy or a bad guy. Now in easy-to-read blog post format. www.exurbe.com/historys-lar...

Becoming homeless due to Russian air strikes - bad & sad, you may come and stay. Becoming homeless due to Israeli air strikes - you brought it on yourself, clear off. We are witnessing a grotesque spectacle at the moment www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

As the judgment says, the basis for granting this Gazan family the right to live in the UK was Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, not the Ukraine visa scheme. They just used the application form for the Ukraine scheme to lodge the Article 8 application - a procedural quirk.

So government are unhappy with a Palestinian family accessing a visa scheme set up for Ukrainians. The question we should be asking is why they set up a bespoke scheme for one single Nationality & left everyone else, including Palestinians & Sudanese, to people smugglers?

This should be changed asap. If we give someone refugee status, it can't be right to then refuse them route to become a British Citizen. To say they can have a home in our country, but never a place in our society and be forever second class. freemovement.org.uk/good-charact...

The problem is that Tesco can't check you're a citizen in good standing with your neighborhood watch group before allowing you to buy bread.

This is a very, very bad change. If there is no carve out for refugees it’s also very clearly in breach of the Refugee Convention. Art 31 requires no penalisation for illegal entry and Art 34 requires facilitation of naturalisation.

Lies, damn lies, and immigration statistics: me in @prospectmagazine.co.uk on the endless torrent of falsehoods and half-truths pumped out by right-wong "journalists and " thinktanks" in the British media. www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/pol...

The core voter this rhetoric engages is people who don’t want to see brown people in the street. And demographically you can’t give them that without ethnic cleansing of British families. If labour is not going to do that then it’s only going to fail these people and drive everyone else away.

The UK has many problems but it's the only English-speaking country to have the correct view on both horn usage (illegal without cause and if you use it everyone hates you) and jaywalking (no such thing outside actual motorways, everywhere else pedestrian incidents are by law the driver's fault)

The BMJ journal Archive of Disease in Childhood has just published the epidemiological study done by York university that was commissioned as part of the Cass review into gender clinics in the UK. It contains some STARTLING (and yet, unsurprising) revelations. 1/n

I'll be on @LBC with @IainDale & co from 8pm this evening- Discussing the kids who got involved in the summer riots and the latest predicted stats from ONS that show our population is shrinking & ageing without immigration! Tune in if you can 😎

I don’t think we can thank @jdportes.bsky.social and @robfordmancs.bsky.social enough for their continual efforts in calling out and detailing the truth in all these cases. It must be exhausting but without them so much would just fly on through.

NEW video 🎥😎 The right wing press has been up in arms this week about a Telegraph report that claims 1 in 12 Londoners is undocumented 😱😱 Is it true? youtu.be/8N-DWUHRM_s?...

A question I keep struggling with from estate agents is “uh, why do you WANT an ex-council flat?” that isn’t an incredibly combative “have you seen the rest of the crap you sell and the conditions attached?”

Some rare good news re UK immigration policy that I thought worth sharing 100s of refugee families who were accepted for UK resettlement but had been waiting years for relocation have finally arrived in Britain in the last yr, as the new govt has been quietly prioritising their cases Short thread🧵

Goodbye, Garth!

Extraordinary not getting a season 3 is an absolute tragedy, that show was so good variety.com/2025/tv/glob...

JUST IN 🔴 We testified at the #CovidInquiry with evidence the UK Gov IGNORED advice to defend public health, to INSTEAD prioritise anti-migrant policies. ➡️ They endangered all of us. @medact.bsky.social @gardencourtlaw.bsky.social @anna-miller.bsky.social
