John Calvin’s exposition of the eighth commandment included the demand that we care for the immigrant in our midst lest we face the might of God who is their avenger:

Disabled vets struggled to qualify for housing assistance because HUD counted disability benefits as income. Today, the House passed the Housing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act to change this. As an original co-sponsor, grateful we’re closer to getting more vets housing.

🧵 If you’re applauding the abolishment of the Department of Education, you need to do a little research. You have ZERO clue what the DOE actually does. Here’s a reality check on what the Department of Education actually does: (1/14)

North Dakota Republicans have introduced legislation to declare themselves a Christian nationalist state by “acknowledging the Kingship of Jesus Christ.” This is a direct challenge to the Constitution.

Good ways to get children to read: 1. Read aloud to them from babyhood onwards. 2. If it's too late for that, read when they're around. 3. Read a cool mix of stuff. Grab a graphic novel about your favourite historical or current topic. (There are lots of them around.)

Remember, kids, we've seen it before and we'll see it again.

Using Libby to borrow books from my local library is such a great way to read that it feels almost too good to be true.

Ida Wells was born enslaved but refused to live in fear. She wielded the power of the press to expose America’s greatest terror—lynching. When the truth made her a target, she didn’t back down. She co-founded the NAACP, fought for Black women’s voting rights, and left a legacy of resistance!

If you are so inclined to seek peace in the Bible might I recommend Psalm 10. I found some peace for these troubled times. "The wicked arrogantly hunt down the poor. Let them be caught in the evil they plan for others."

There are many things to note about Helen DeWitt’s The English Understand Wool, but right now I’m focused on the similarities in trim size and binding with my 1979 copy of Frog and Toad. 💚🤎 #booksky #frogandtoad #helendewitt

AFL-CIO just sent this memo out

People probably know this, but if you have a UK library card, you can use the Libby app to borrow ebooks and audio books for free, without physically going to the library. 📚🎧

@briantylercohen.bsky.social This guy's indefensible words need to be everywhere. I am curious if he supports raising the minimum wage since kids should be supporting themselves instead of enjoying being a kid.

Nothing makes a librarian happier than a child who is excited about books. Reading is magical. #booksky #proudlibrarian

One thing I am absolutely loving on #Bluesky is all the support for libraries and their critical role in keeping our society free and educated. I was raised in a family of librarians and have served on the Board of our local Friends group for 6 years. It warms my heart to see library love.

I’m telling everyone: Do not open the door or say a word unless you’re expecting someone and know exactly who it is. Know your rights. Pass these around…

I'll soon be closing the door on X. It was a great place for meeting writers, bookbloggers, bookshops, educators, editors and nice people in general. Please embrace me here so I can build up my community - drop a hello and I'll follow. TY 😊 #kidlit #YA #kidlitUK #childrensauthors #schoolvisits

Since #booktok is trending may remind people the Libby app is out there where you can borrow books from your Library digitally. Just need a library card.

now that tiktok and, subsequently, #booktok is gone, i’ve deleted all my meta accounts—which were my only remaining primary sources for book content. so all this to say, pls let me in #booksky! i have a reading goal of 100 books this year and i need the recs 😭

I love seeing so many people hyping up Libby and going to the library 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾 #BlackBookSky

Finding out about the Libby app last year completely changed my life. I love being able to borrow books from the library right to my kindle. It is good stuff and why I was able to read so many books last year.

Let’s never forget who came to our aid…and who has done nothing but spew lies and threats.

Shoutout to the Los Angeles Times reporters who are doing essential journalism under very difficult circumstances. They’ve dropped their paywall, but their ongoing coverage is a good reminder of why local newsrooms need support — and what we lose when those outlets are hollowed out.

Do you ever just casually walk through a town/city in a video game and just admire it?

You know why I love reading? It’s one of the last true escapes—no ads, no distractions, just pure immersion in a story.

If you don’t have a library card go get one. Even if you don’t plan on using it right away, go get one. Keep our libraries alive.

Did I do touchdown arms and go “Yessss!” when I saw I made it to $100 in book sales this month? Yup! Thank you to everyone who has bought and boosted and been supportive! ❤️😍
