Charles, every once in a while I do feel compelled to remind you: Democrats have NO POWER at the moment. Short of showing up in suicide vests, there's nothing they can do in the House other than troll the majority by doing stuff like this.

Adrian, from a non-lawyer to someone who should know better, the key word there is "legitimate." That's why we have courts. To determine when those actions are legitimate, and to stop them when they are not.

part of the reason the roman senate was so happy to give Augustus all the power was because he was actually pretty good at doing what they didn't want to do. If Caligula had been first in that chain, probably the senators would have been less inclined to just go along with Empire.

they have a filibuster in the senate. the house runs purely by majority. the minority party can do fuck-all about anything the house decides it wants to do.

Except possibly for Collins and murkowski who will be allowed to maintain their “moderate” cred because their votes don’t matter.

Lamb ragu sounds intriguing. If lamb at Publix wasn’t 50 bucks an ounce, I’d likely give that a try. I did make beef bourginon for the first time ever to break in a new Dutch oven, and it was edible though not spectacular.

Oh please! Do tell. A Palestinian in Gaza with money cannot purchase a first class ticket and fly anywhere in the world? A Palestinian wishing to work in Israel cannot pass through a checkpoint to do so? Educate me, I beg of you.
comment in response to post
I'm sorry, did you just suggest that Palestinians, living in their own city, controlled by their own government, working at their own jobs, free to travel any place in the world they wish, are analogous to Jews being penned in a ghetto?

is the fence preventing gazans from occupying and governing gaza? No? Then what does that have to do with anything?
comment in response to post
Let’s start even more basic: do you understand that Israel ceded control of Gaza in 2005, and that Hamas has been running things there ever since?

I’m sorry. Maybe I’m just slow here. Israel is a country, and israel is not using cluster bombs. So why are you citing my quote about Ukraine as though you’ve just scored a Bingo?

sorry, your point?

Yes, well one has been the genocidal slogan of Arabs in the Middle East since the Arab League tried overrunning Israel in 1947, and one of them indicates Israel plans to fight for its existence. Small difference, yes?

Well, tell her if you don’t do it there’s a non-zero possibility the person’s ghost will burn the house down.

it's not technically plagiarism, but it is technically cheating, no? "If I went to a tutoring service and the tutor rewrote a bunch of my sentences for me, and then I went in and changed a few of the words, would that violate the non-collaboration honor code?" I would assume so.

nah. 160 light years away? We're safe as houses.

don't forget Gingrich reviving the "Democrat" in all instances, rather than "Democratic." Hey, here's an idea: you don't want a political party to fucking hate you, try using their name correctly. But of course, they don't because they're a bunch of teenaged frat boys.

I will never forgive Romney for many things in his life, but one thing that springs to mind is his immediate politicization of Benghazi. He singlehandedly started right-wing media down that nonsensical path.

Yes, (sigh) I understand that. The premise was it needed a comma. I didn’t understand how. It honestly wasn’t meant as a swipe at anyone.
comment in response to post
Oh brother. I’m really sorry. I understood the joke. He mentioned something about a comma and I couldn’t understand how the comma would help. I’m sorry everybody!
comment in response to post
I’m really sorry. You’d mentioned a comma and I couldn’t understand how the comma fit into things.

You’re misreading it (because it’s not well written). It does mean “eating customers” in the same sense as “paying customers.” Tables are for eating customers (customers who eat) only.

No. I ran a radio slot back in the 80’s in a 2-player studio setup where one record plays while the next track is set up. To do that, you have to manually spin the vinyl forwards or backwards to get the needle where you want it. Often that means hearing reversed music.

Oh god I hate begs the question. “No, you may be asking a question there, but nothing happening there is assuming a conclusion as already demonstrated.”

Yes, because apparently it’s fine to commit acts of terror while running back to the skirts of your civilian human shields. The irony is that the desire to protect Gazans actually leaves them dependent on their abusers. Let Israel burn the roaches out of the tunnels first.

This would be the Brits who basically supplied the Arab League with all its tanks and half its tank commanders in 1947? Yeah, thank God for that.

It’s one of those oddities where it means one thing in parliamentarian systems and the complete opposite on ours.
