Exactly why I've been writing, podcasting, and damn near screaming about using the right language. The mainstream media is failing us SO badly right now. Stop. Calling. This. Shit. DEI. This is (re)segregation. This is racial purging. Cleansing Black people from positions of power.

The resignation of a federal employee must be voluntary. I highly doubt failure to respond to this email---sent on a Saturday---would be understood by any court to be a voluntary resignation.

Stop fucking saying he blamed “DEI,” which is some abstract, non-tangible idea. He is blaming people of color having jobs he thinks they aren’t qualified for. He’s blaming race. He’s being racist every time he says it. Journalists need to get fucking backbones, my word.

Democrats are fundamentally misunderstanding the moment: We're not asking them to be *legislators* right now. We need them to be *politicians.* There's nothing to be done about the legislative situation. They're right about that. But there's PLENTY to be done as politicians.

In every single interview I’ve done with international media since Trump took power I’ve been asked: Why are there no mass protests? There are many reasons, of course, but the utter refusal of the self-proclaimed “fourth estate” to communicate clearly what is happening has to be high on the list.

The bipartisan efforts to demonize and criminalize pro-Palestinian protestors have also contributed to the lack of mobilization of civil society against Trump, and this was EXACTLY what the right wanted when they cynically exploited Democrats' racism/desires to suppress any dissent.

Trump pardoned the sentence of arguably the single biggest drug trafficker in American history on his second day in office!

I know we talk about this constantly but it is truly one of the greatest mindfucks of my lifetime. as an 80s kid a Nazi was the most unambiguously, nonnegotiably evil thing you could even be ADJACENT TO, like morality for kindergarteners, and now we have to relitigate that shit every day???? ffs

Take my tax dollars and help people dammit

“the United States is not a startup. The federal government exists to do all of the things that are definitionally not profitable, that serve the public good rather than protect investor profits. (The vast majority of startups also fail, something the United States cannot afford to do.)”

This is THE definition of a dictatorship. Full stop.

"I don't think you can work from a home. Nobody is gonna work from home. They are gonna be going out, they're gonna play tennis, they're gonna play golf, they're gonna do a lot of things. They're not working." -- Trump, last week

A reminder: 1. Elon Musk's wealth is mostly in Tesla stock 2. Tesla is successful because at a key moment in 2009 the federal government gave it a $465 million loan so it could make sedans 3. Musk is now firing thousands of government workers and slashing every service ordinary people depend on

When the dismantlists talk about "trimming the fat" or "bloated" whatever relating to the federal government, remind them that there have been about the same number of federal employees since the 1960s. Meanwhile US population has increased by ~70% and GDP has increased 29-fold.

democrats won’t admit it, but my family’s economic outlook has gotten a LOT better since Trump took office. but what do i know? i don’t have a fancy economics degree, i’m just a regular guy who runs an airplane scrapyard

I wrote about Elon Musk and Gavin Kliger and acknowledging the reality of what they are: Nazis.

As a journalist who covers extremism at the local level, I think it’s a mistake to view Trump’s Napoleonic statement as solely about presidential power. Consider if it’s interpreted as a wink and a nod for any extremist to act outside the law to “save” the country as they see fit

Correct. If the birthdate field contains corrupt or mismatched data, it defaults to 1875-05-20, which serves as a flag. May 20, 1875, is the day the international standards and metrics treaty was signed. Everything is a conspiracy when you don’t know how anything works.

I think it's worth reminding people that project 2025 was mostly ignored until Taraji P Henson shouted it out on the bet awards. That's a specific audience.

How about Blue states introduce a new ripple? Impose criminal penalties/stiff fines on those who seek to effect in some other state any criminal/civil penalties upon a doctor or pharmacist in the Democratic run state for providing legal abortion medication to someone in the US. Make the bums sweat.

NEW: Elon Musk and his team have posted classified data on DOGE's new website www.huffpost.com/entry/elon-m...

I would not characterize this as “a major diplomatic breakthrough.” I would instead call it human trafficking. www.cbsnews.com/news/us-depo...

Unreal. The US government is dumping Asian and African families and children in random countries that they have no connection to. Dumping, not "deporting." Deportation implies the return of a person to their home country. This is treating people like toxic waste. www.cbsnews.com/news/us-depo...

Jaw droppingly racist even for 2025 standards

you do have to wonder if mitch mcconnell, as he votes again and again against these nominees, is reckoning at all with the fact that he is more responsible for all of this than most

I am probably on some government lists now but at least I am in good company.

Tesla's stock is ridiculously overvalued, and even a modest consumer boycott could tank the company, which accounts for the majority of Elon Musk's wealth. The divestment movement weakened apartheid South Africa. Let's do that again. slate.com/business/202...

Trump and his drug-addled ultra-billionaire Daddy are rampaging lawlessly. Rank and file Democrats are furious about the feckless response and failing strategies from @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social and @chuckschumer.com. So Dem leaders do the only thing they know how: punch down and left.

i am going to put a finer point on this: executive orders are not laws. and they certainly are not royal decrees. they are interpretations of existing law for the purposes of enforcement. the fact that so many people are treating them as laws is actually driving me a bit insane.

Tremendous new addition to the Louvre

Vance is openly calling for the end of the constitutional order here, which is a betrayal of his oath of office. It is as plain as day now, Loper Bright ain’t gonna save you

the founders of this country were slaveowners whose original intent is irrelevant to most modern issues but one thing they got absolutely right at the time was their warning about No Trumps they just badly overestimated how well the guardrails they tried to put in place would hold

Stanford has so much to answer for. Scott Atlas is responsible for literally hundreds of thousands of excess deaths. Bhattacharya appears bent on destroying the NIH and scientific and academic supremacy of the US. Elizabeth Holmes at this point is looking like their least harmful product.

slate.com/podcasts/wha... I want you to imagine that your baby has been born with mysterious symptoms. A hospital data scientist is trying to figure it out with rare disease data from the CDC. But suddenly that information is deleted. Today’s show. With @jasonkoebler.bsky.social:

This is why they're attacking science and education: if you can only win with disinformation, data become a threat.

No one has tried this before, let's see how it plays out.

I realized today that Trump, Musk, DOGE, Vance, Miller, Vought and their many collaborators have broken so many laws already that they know they have to destroy our government and entire way of life to stay out of jail. This is all or nothing. We should respond accordingly.

I wish people on the left would stop conflating DEI with unqualified. Stop adopting the framing of racists

I’m being told that this is what the good guys do, but I have no choice but to accept it. And I’m the problem if I don’t.

Once upon a time, we complained that "ethnic cleansing" was too sterile a euphemism to describe the forced removal and often violent expulsion of a racial or religious minority from a region. And now the press can't even bring itself to use *that* term.

When protestors uttered the slogan “defund the police” the national media had a massive freak out. But now that Trump wants to actually gut the FBI and (it would seem) illegally fire 1000s of people who work there, the same media sees it as a curiosity, a dull bureaucratic matter.

The real problem with this shit is that the Democrats in Congress are treating this like an election they need to win* instead of a crisis they need to stop. *and they aren't doing a good job even at that

I remain fascinated by the expanded child tax credit case study & the implications for leftist policymaking. People received REAL financial benefit from it. It drastically cut child poverty rates and it was rescinded without a real fight. I think about this at least once a week.
