Climate denial and COVID disinfo: the same people & the same ad hominem attacks. As @lewan.bsky.social and colleagues found long ago, it’s rare to find climate denial standing by itself: it is typically part of a much larger set of conspiratorial views. citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/document?rep...

Frankly, this pledge to cancel the industrial carbon pricing system if elected smells of desperation. It is the workhorse of federal policy, it is industry-friendly and it provides policy certainty. Cutting it would upend company plans + a cheap way to reduce emissions. globalnews.ca/news/1108494...

🕊️ What wisdom from Unitarian Universalism has shaped your life? Maybe it was a reading, a lesson from a minister, or a moment in community. UU calls us to seek truth, live with compassion, and work for justice. What wisdom has stayed with you? Share in the comments! ⬇️ #UU #wisdom #faith

More of this, please. A LOT more of this, please.

"The reason you should care about this is not that it could happen to you but that it is already happening to others. It is happening to people who, we claim, have rights just because we are human. It is happening to me, personally." www.nytimes.com/2025/03/17/o...

Casual final sentence here, way to bury the lede CBC! "Carney is expected to call an election by the end of the week, to take place in late Apr or early May." If you're out of the country and you want to vote, here's what you need to do as soon as the election is announced ⬇️

William Archibald Spooner (1844-1930) was a British clergyman/educator. He was famous for saying things like "a blushing crow" instead of "a crushing blow." Today, a 'spoonerism' means "a transposition of usually initial sounds of two or more words."

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House. We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication. They own what happens next.

UPDATE: From the original poster of the letter on FB:

hey hey we’re on the civicus watchlist 😬

Wow. The US has quite rightly been added to the CIVICUS human rights watch list in the same month as the DRC and Pakistan. monitor.civicus.org/watchlist-ma...

I don’t think carbon taxes are the end all and be all of climate policy. But a well designed tax can help. We have one and now it’s going to be killed because it is unpopular (taxes are funny that way) Its replacement should be introduced *at the same time* We risk going backwards otherwise. 🔌💡

Cool so what happens if GOP attach a national abortion ban to a CR? You'll vote for that too? 🚮

If climate change is a religion and scientists are its high priests… where’s our tax exemption and housing allowance? h/t @skaky01.bsky.social

"Okay, I'll go on NPR to talk about it. What do you want me to say when they ask for the grounds for his deportation?" "You'll think of something."

This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

Trumpty-Dumpty is a bull. The American economy is his china shop.

🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave. Tell them: 1. Vote NO on Cloture AND 2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill. Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it. TODAY is the showdown. 🤳🏽: (202) 224-3121

Anyone explain to me how this fuckwit openly put tarrifs on Canadian lumber......then complains ABOUT/ABOOT THE TARRIFS ON LUMBER!?!?! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

He tanked the dollar. Not only are tarrifs going to make things more expensive, a low dollar will make those imports even more expensive. 🤦 The anger against American products will make exporting more difficult too.

The U.S. government spent $710 billion in Trump’s first month, an increase from the same period a year prior. Cost-cutting efforts are ineffective, and job losses are occurring without clear justification.

The City of Sun Prairie has become the first municipality in Wisconsin to achieve 100% renewable energy. Their next goal: carbon neutrality by 2050. Recently I introduced a bill with State Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde to commit the entire state to carbon neutrality by 2050.

Marco Rubio will be in Quebec City Wednesday March 12-14 2025. If he is there, you should Deliver eggs that you have kept in a vey hot place for a few days, to the Secretary of State and let the trade war threat be a yolk on him. Idea c/o Edge O. Erin edgeoerin.com

If anyone is looking for a lab technician/manager with nucleic acid isolation, library prep, and sequencing analysis experience preferably in the DMV, my former biologist is looking for a job. She was unfortunately terminated in Feb as part of the probationary employee firings. DM me for her info

It’s not just disruption and job cuts - the FAA is preparing to deploy SpaceX subsidiary Starlink across their communications network - a technology that has not undergone strict testing and could be turned off at a billionaire’s whim

This Administration is turning its back on science. If you never had the measles or polio, thank science. If you use a smartphone as easily as a computer, thank science. If you want to know if it will be raining tomorrow, thank science. A total disaster is coming. apnews.com/article/trum...

I joined Christiana Figueres for a special International Women’s Day episode on her well-names podcast, Outrage + Optimism. Listen here!

Recommended listen: To mark International Women’s Day, Costa Rican diplomat and former UN climate chief, Christiana Figueres, was joined by top climate scientist Dr @katharinehayhoe.com on her @outrageoptimism.bsky.social‬ podcast to discuss why ignoring women endangers the climate.

My department at Uppsala university has just announced two open PhD positions: one in history of science and the other in history of ideas. We research, for example, colonial history of science, history of medicine, and intellectual history. Deadline: 8 April

What this guy doesn't seem to understand is that representatives in Congress are meant to represent everyone in the district, not just partisan supporters.

"You are very, very welcome here in Downing Street. As you heard from the cheers on the street outside, you have full backing across the United Kingdom. We will stand with you and Ukraine for as long as it may take."

Vaccination eliminated measles from the U.S. 25 years ago. But it can still spread in pockets where vaccination rates are low, like the west Texas county with a current outbreak. Here's how fast.

Make it make sense!

The Washpost, which is bleeding millions of dollars and shrinking its staff, accepted -- and then rejected -- a $115,000 ad that criticized Elon Musk. Anyway, here's the ad that the Post's business side didn't want its readers to see ⤵️ thehill.com/media/514849...
