This report on AI and tech in maths teaching from @informededucation.com is well-worth a read. Refreshing to see such a wide-ranging, balanced view of the potential and challenges of tech in education, especially around e.g. school capacity. cdn.sanity.io/files/uiql8s...

A selection of questions from Orlando Gough’s #AlevelMaths text book, published 1987. Thread

How confusing are Ofsted’s new grades? Come do our quiz to find out HT @michaelt1979.bsky.social

Loved reading this - especially the clear link between the strategy - 'what if' questions - and the purpose - helping a teacher mentally simulate the classroom.

I wrote a blog. It’s been a while! Inspired by @head-teach.bsky.social’s blog ‘Lighthouses & Sirens’ educontrarianblog.com/2025/02/02/l... It’s full of dangerous opinions & ideas that may well run amok as soon as you click the link. Caution advised 😊 watermanlearning.wordpress.com/2025/02/02/w...

My new book, Primary Reading Simplified, is released this Monday. Briefly, I'd like to explain why it exists, who I think will find it useful and where you can find it. >>

Interleaving in the maths classroom. Powerful but underutilised? @jajackson.bsky.social and Emma Lindley Thompson share their thoughts on the research and implications for practice in this episode of #TDaPE Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/6fCt... Apple: podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t...

Why not start your week listening to Emma Lindley-Thompson and I talking to @kieran-m-ed.bsky.social about how interleaved practice can improve learning in maths? creators.spotify.com/pod/show/kie... Download our 'Expert Edit' summary here: tinyurl.com/39cnspa5

🧵This from @jburnmurdoch.bsky.social links to probably biggest thing I've changed my mind on in last 5 years: the merits of working (or study) from home. Initially in post pandemic rows on it I tended to think loud critics of WFH were opening another culture war front & many did frame it that way!

Really excited to have recorded my first appearance on a podcast! Emma Lindley-Thompson and I will be guests on Thinking Deeply about Primary Education talking about our Expert Edit: Helping pupils learn maths. Download here: tinyurl.com/39cnspa5 Thank you @kieran-m-ed.bsky.social for having us!

#NEWBLOG #edusky An Ode to Theory #cst . Key Ideas 1)We need ideas that challenge how we think. 2)The central role of the thoughtful practitioners&leaders in our sector- we must get better at mobilising their expertise. Read below. cstuk.org.uk/news-publica...

Thanks for sharing these

#UkEd #Edusky #EduBlogUk This is a cracking post from Claire: considering the realities of day to day & year on year school leadership & the wider system. Thanks @clairestoneman.bsky.social

Teachers in the most affluent schools report higher levels of maths attainment and more positive attitudes towards maths than teachers in the most deprived schools. (1/7)

Wise words from Sarah as always!

One of the things that keeps me going back to Twitter is that I get fairly regular DMs on there asking me for advice about reading. Just to be clear: I am more than happy for people to DM on here for the same reason. Please repost this if you think this info might be useful to someone.

One of my favourite bits of #maths #history is, in 1557, Robert Recorde (🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿) gets so fed up repeating the same thing over and over again that, in order... "to avoid the tediouse repetition of these woordes: is equalle to" ... he just gives up and invents the equals sign: = 🏛️🎓

I seem to have a quite a few new followers so I'll re-share a few things I've written (and hopefully galvanise myself into writing something new!). Welcome!

Still a lot of work to do both in getting it right from above but also getting people to understand sometimes it is not about what you will use tomorrow but changing thinking snd learning. If people are already switched off . . .

You can never post this too often!

Delighted to announce that I’m co-leading (alongside @drhelendrury.bsky.social) a major new and independent review of maths curriculum & assessment: @mathshorizons.bsky.social mathshorizons.uk

This is really good on how the primary maths curriculum could do less, but better. www.tes.com/magazine/tea...

Great piece in TES by @peterfoulds77.bsky.social and David Thomas on the primary maths curriculum. www.tes.com/magazine/tea... I love the concept and explanation of maths for pleasure, particularly how this is linked to the need for fluency.

Really enjoying this short series of posts from Craig Barton (who still doesn't seem to be on here...) eedi.substack.com/p/can-an-ai-... Some great examples of just how bad AI is at maths (although ChatGPT is slightly better). Tbh I'm even less impressed than Craig is with the AI results!

Seems I was an early-ish adopter! Thanks @linguistlawyer.com

The problem with using plans you made before is they were planned for different classes and by a different person.

This is fantastic! A massive well done to John and Emma and well worth a read for anyone involved in teaching maths

Welcome to Bluesky, Bradford Research School! @bradresearchsch.bsky.social

Some different trig representations with Y13, which we could then combine to derive the compound angle formulae. I think the multipliers were a new way of thinking for a lot of them, but they work really well here and will be useful in mechanics! #MathsToday #ALevelMaths

Who's interested? Let's see what the numbers would look like? Can't keep research out of God's own country

I sometimes get asked about the common issues I see across primary schools and the kind of support I offer as a result. This brief blog explains this stuff. This is my first new blog on Blue Sky so reposts much appreciated. primarycolour.home.blog/2024/09/08/h...

Enjoying this discussion too. Not sure where I stand - the KS3 maths questions were often great (for reasoning not basic fluency) but there was such a huge amount of time wasted from trying to hit accountability targets.

An open-ended starter question for my first lesson with my AS Further Maths groups. Some approached it by trying different values of b, others by writing it in brackets first, some went down the discriminant route. Then, I took the opportunity to rave about sliders on Desmos and how great they are 😄
