Marine Le Pen is going to jail and won't be able to run in 2027. Judges have applied the law in a case that has exposed extraordinary amounts of criminal activities. Don't make this a question of public opinion or what the far right and foreign leaders think of it. It's the rule of law at work.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Paris criminal court has found Le Pen guilty of the misuse of European Parliament funds. Now awaiting sentencing

Bunch shows how it is done. The way he points out what the EO *legally* does (directs the VP, acting as just one of many regents) vs what it claims to do (“change the Smithsonian!”—something POTUS can’t do) is fantastic. We need more of this, less ppl taking EOs as law.

NEW: Friends of Neri Alvarado, rotting in a Salvadoran prison on Trump's orders, made a video highlighting his volunteer work helping neurodiverse children learn to swim. Neri was sent there after someone at ICE thought his autism awareness tattoo was a gang tattoo. Vid posted by Noah Lanard on X.

It’s so great to be in the company of these writers in @thebookseller.com and to be interviewed by Alice O’Keeffe. Thank you. @sceptrebooks.bsky.social www.thebookseller.com/books/debuts...

I don’t get people condemning those who decide to leave the country. You might have no idea what their personal situation is. Do you condemn socialists who left Chile in 1973? Jews who fled the Nazis? Being able to leave indicates privilege, for sure, but that doesn’t mean they’re wrong to go.

A Somerville, MA resident sends along this image of all the people who turned out for an emergency rally today for Romeysa Ozturk, the Tufts University PhD international student who was essentially abducted by ICE yesterday. Thousands came "on six hours' notice." Thank you @jbendery.bsky.social

"An emergency rally has been called for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Powder House Square in Somerville to protest a Tufts international graduate student being taken into custody Tuesday by federal authorities." www.cambridgeday.com/2025/03/26/p...

Dear Media: you don’t need to give the far right a platform (eg interview or op-Ed) to inform your listeners/readers/viewers about their views.

Some updates on our client: @immdef.bsky.social went to his imm court hearing Monday and received confirmation from ICE that he has been “removed” to El Salvador. The Judge asked “how has he been removed if there is no removal order?” And the ICE attorney responded that they did not know.

It’s 8:30pm in El Salvador. 238 men from Venezuela are beginning their fourth night in the terror prison where the Trump administration put them, in defiance of a judge’s order, without telling us who they are or whether they did anything more than run afoul of an ICE agent’s prejudiced hunch.

NEW: Federal immigration authorities have a history of wrongfully detaining U.S. citizens. Advocates warn that the Trump administration’s immigration policies mean that more citizens will get caught up in raids and sweeps. By @nicolefoy.bsky.social

We raised around $10K in aid with Workshops4Gaza, so even if you cannot attend 'Black Beyond Borders,' please donate. We want to provide something nice to support frontline work in Sudan! Help out if you're able to! chuffed.org/project/work...

My theory on why Trump is choosing THIS order to defy is 1) someone at White House made the decision [cough, Stephen Miller] w/o properly vetting it, and now DOJ has to dig in and 2) like suspected fuck-ups at USAID, if they back down it'll reveal just how incompetent they really are.

Based on this fast and excellent WaPo reporting, these four guys are not gang members, just Venezuelan dads who came to the US to work. They’re now being paraded in shackles in El Salvador www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/...

NEW today from @miamiherald.com: more men sent to El Salvador on Saturday have been identified by their families, including a 27-year-old who entered legally at a port of entry in 2023 through the CBP One app and a 29-year-old father of a baby born here last year. Neither have any criminal record.

A good example of why producing @wola-org.bsky.social's weekly Border Updates is important: this is from our February 7 issue, covering Marco Rubio's visit to El Salvador. The archives are here: www.wola.org/category/the...

Francisco García Casique left Venezuela in 2017 and worked as a barber in Peru until 2023, when he came to the US via the Darién Gap. No gang ties, but he had a tattoo. ICE noticed. Now he's in El Salvador's dungeons. “We zoomed in and we could recognize him. A mother's instinct never fails."

People need to be crystal clear about something: The requirement that the government ANSWER to a court on the legal basis for detaining someone is literally the core liberty right (habeas corpus). If the government says they don’t have to do that bc “national security,” YOU can be disappeared.

A US-born citizen was walking near Chicago in January. ICE snatched him off the street, handcuffed him, threw into a van. His wallet, which contained his ID, was confiscated. He was detained for 10 hours before being released without a record of what occurred. immigrantjustice.org/sites/defaul...

Family members of Venezuelan migrants who suspect their loved ones were sent to El Salvador as part of a rapid US deportation operation over the weekend are struggling to get more information as a legal battle plays out. @kristinacooke.bsky.social and Sarah Kinosian www.reuters.com/world/americ...

This is horrifying! Family members of some of the people sent to do hard labor in a Salvadoran prison by Trump confirm their loved ones weren't members of a gang. One woman said her brother got a tattoo of a rose in Dallas, and because of that they accused him of being a gang member.

Understand that this El Salvador gulag deportation was done partly in order to make the fascist video that the president now transmits, with his fascist message. The cameras are all set up in advance.

5pm ET, hearing on Trump's use of the Alien Enemies Act and the defiance of court order. The public can listen by telephone. Let the number of callers show we are paying attention.

When I wrote my camps book, people sometimes had difficulty understanding how concentration-camp regimes were proud of what they were doing and wanted attention for it, even as they also hoped to keep many aspects secret and terrorize vulnerable classes. Anyway, this is what that looks like.

Language used by individuals associated with the federal government who deported people without trial or due process to a concentration camp in El Salvador, defying a court order, has a specific resonance that, historically, has been used to change regime type. snyder.substack.com/p/the-evil-a...

The people Attorney General Bondi is calling “terrorists” have had no trial and no chance to defend themselves. We do not know who they are. Ignoring the Constitution does not make us safe. It puts us all in peril.

PR for a dictatorship. One reason not to share these types of media, when you have independent journalists reporting the facts. #HoldTheLine

Posting tonight ti shine a light on what the Alien Enemies Act looks like IRL. Our @immdef.bsky.social client fled Venezuela last year & came to US to seek asylum. He has a strong claim. He was detained upon entry because ICE alleged his tattoos are gang related. They are absolutely not. 🧵

US deports hundreds of Venezuelans "despite" court order. Meaning, of course: "in breach of". On the face of it, it looks like there is now a full constitutional crisis in United States, in that the executive is now freely ignoring court orders. Crisis point reached. www.bbc.com/news/article...

I decided to start a #thread 🧵 of stories about legal residents and tourists being (illegally) arrested, detained and/or deported by the Trump regime. I'll only post stories from serious sources, as rumors and conspiracies are really not needed in this authoritarian moment.

You beat fascism by making common cause with everyone who is not a fascist and not a collaborator, but that second part is critical. It’s a non-ideological coalition in which we don’t have to agree about anything except the need to fight.

Tesla Model 3 crushed by an Olmec statue By Mexican sculptor @chavismarmol.bsky.social

it is grimly hilarious that, given the immense, decades-long fetishization of "leadership" and "leadership skills" in business-oriented academia and politics, even unto the formation of leadership institutes, there should turn out to be no leaders in any positions of power

What we’re witnessing in America is what happens when disordered discourse captures a political party, then the state itself. The Republican Party was the first to fall - abandoning truth for conspiracy, ideology for grievance, and policy for performative outrage.

Somehow missed this 2022 UK paper exploring responses to radical right parties (RRP) and whether accommodation - i.e. "beat" them by repeating a version of their tale actually worked electorally. Short version: Nope. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
