Three separate questions on post-16 provision for students with EHCPs tabled by this MP, including on improving funding for councils and increasing placements for students, got an identical response which doesn't really answer any of the questions.

"Ministers plan major changes to SEND as a White paper is being drafted." SNJ is quoted, saying ministers will have a “massive fight on their hands” if it tries to dilute children’s SEND legal rights. “Reducing entitlement won’t make needs go away." www.theguardian.com/educatio...

Another day, another anonymously briefed article about the financial cost of SEND that sidesteps what the current mess costs in human terms. Councils are underfunded, AND children and their families are being failed. Weakening the law will not fix this. www.theguardian.com/education/20...

I wonder who may be responsible for this, Daily Mail?

UK followers. Please sign this petition to lift restrictions to prescribing puberty blockers for trans children. Last week I learnt Finasteride - the drug Alice was prescribed because her GP refused to administer a puberty blocker - causes suicidal ideation. The PB ban puts trans youth at risk.

What an outstanding photo! www.theguardian.com/environment/...

4 February 1925 | A French Jewish woman, Ginette Kolinka (née Cherkasky), was born in Paris. She was deported to #Auschwitz from Drancy in April 1944. She was transferred to Bergen-Belsen and then to Theresienstadt. She survived. Today she turns 100.

As January crawls back in to the shadows for another eleven months, I am grateful for the episodes of Origin Story, Maintenance Phase and If Books Could Kill which dropped. They helped!

The Times recently led its front page with an entirely bogus story about VAT on private school fees. What were the facts? | Stephen McNair

Important JR hearing this week on the lawfulness of SEND ‘safety valve’ agreements entered into by Bristol and Devon councils. I act for the Bristol claimant and one Devon claimant with Alice Irving and Watkins solicitors, @ris-law.bsky.social team for the second Devon claimant

Now that people are joining bluesky in large numbers I'll share this old comic of mine. I made it for Twitter, but as you can see, people over there never listened. Maybe this time... So just block, don't dunk on bigots!

A day to reflect. Posts from @auschwitzmemorial.bsky.social can never be scrolled past, and never should be.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

Join the RNC family! We're looking for a compassionate and experienced Counsellor to provide vital support to our visually impaired students. Apply today: www.rnc.ac.uk/jobs

This is a hell of a piece of writing about a story that, if you heard about it for the first time, would blow your socks off. www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/...

If only his party had any opportunities over the last 14 years to try to do something about this. What?... Oh. schoolsweek.co.uk/gibb-we-have...

Working on another response to another Education Select Committee on SEND and am grateful that I generally have low blood pressure since I can feel it rising with every sentence.

I’m not going to hyper-focus on every action and word of this administration, especially since there are no consequences, but it’s hard to say that the white South African who has been spouting Nazi shit publicly for a while now somehow accidentally did a gesture similar to the Nazi salute twice

The penultimate paragraph in this excellent piece by @johnharris1969.bsky.social highlights a critical risk on the horizon: 'cuts and savings today, and tomorrow’s promised improvements in mainstream Send provision never materialising.' www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Finally!

It's not just celebrities who provide inspiration for our students! A former student returned to @rnc.ac.uk this week to talk about her time at university and training as a doctor. Mo has secured a great internship in his chosen career field. Both are role models for the current cohort.

So proud of @rnc.ac.uk students, talking about their love of dance and what they find inspiring about Chris McCausland's Strictly journey - first story on this Newsround episode www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

Throughout this year, public awareness of the Safety Valve scheme, and pressure to end it, has increased. Govt have now confirmed there will be no more agreements. It’s a small step but an important one. More here: www.bcpacs.uk/blog/safety-...

Really looking forward to listening to this on the way home - this podcast is essential listening for me

How many reports do we need to write before something is done for our kids with SEND? Children’s development ‘put back by years’ due to failure of special educational needs system www.theguardian.com/education/20...

We're here too! If you have #SightLoss or identify as #Blind or #VisuallyImpaired we are here to support you with #Employment, #Education and work towards equality for #BlindAndPartiallySighted people in every aspect of society.

Today marks four years since the consultation on a #PavementParking ban in England - and we're still waiting for action. Disabled campaigner and journalist Katie Pennick says: "In this photo you can see what happens when parking places are put on the pavement. My wheelchair does not fit!"

This from SNJ was a hard (though excellently reported) read. We have to push back on this kind of misinformation. It is already so hard for young people with SEND to secure provision that meets their needs in a timely fashion: www.specialneedsjungle.com/commons-comm...

Welcome to the Royal National College for the Blind's Bluesky! We're excited to connect with you and share the work we do empowering blind and visually impaired young people. Let's build a supportive, positive and fun community together. Give us a follow! #Education #Empowerment #Employment

As it's the start of UK Disability History Month, we are proud to offer a unique service in Welsh higher education. We're one of only 7 centres in universities across the UK. 2024 also marks 30 years of @sutranscription.bsky.social! 🥳

It's November 20th... an important date.... Why? Because its the day women in the UK stop earning, relative to men. Read @vivienneporritt.bsky.social's annual blog on the Gender Pay Gap. womened.com/blog/what-is...

Did you know that if the Special school place funding had tracked inflation, there would have been a cumulative additional £1.4 billion pounds (based on an average 100,000 children in the system) allocated to Special schools. This year alone my school would have been £431k better off. #SEND #EduSky

Just bought my copy of Making Legal Decisions by Victoria Butter-Cole KC and Steve Broach KC. Offering advice and signposting young people and their families who are faced with unlawful decision making is such a big part of the job now.

ALL behaviours are communication. This is still an area I see massively misunderstood in far too many schools😞sanctioning a child for unmet needs is never OK. It’s discriminatory at worst and cruel at best - not a good look. I also question how it fits with Teaching Standards🫤 #SEND #autism #ADHD

amplifying this again because i’m seeing so many images that are inaccessible to low/no vision folks if you tend to forget, you can toggle on a reminder to use alt text in your accessibility settings💗
