Why is there a strain of leftist who seems to think that if the West pulls out of Ukraine and lets it fall, lets Russia have that great swathe of land, that they'd just stop? Did they stop after Georgia? No, they hit Crimea. After Crimea? Nope, that's how we got here. They won't stop.

I live in a classic Blue Labour constituency and can confidently say it's never really about immigration. It's scarcity of resources, people struggling, and a zero sum mentality. This rhetoric and mythmaking about immigrants getting favourable treatment is the foundation of it.

Slight delay on the 16:20 to Alicante due to a flat battery. Benny from maintenance is on the case and reckons with a good shove, if he drops the clutch in third gear it should bump start no bother.

Speaking of Comms as communication and accessibility, @katymontgomerie.com's shit cartoons are an amazing way of communicating simple messages that help humanise trans people's struggles.

Immediately counters his own previous point by remarking that they were never getting Republicans anyway - the vast majority of the right. So how is it the left's fault that Harris prioritised those impossible votes, losing rather than gaining overall?

So if she moved left and lost a few right wing votes (when 95% of Repubs already voted Trump anyway), that would be the fault of the left, but when she moved right and lost an actual tangible number from the left that's... Somehow also the fault of the left, is it?

what’s stunning to me is the reaction from rightwingers experiencing actual moderation on bsky. they don’t seem to realize how aggressively extreme their own rhetoric has gotten. these are like, facebook grampas posting memes that a decade ago you’d only find in the nazi edgelord parts of 4chan.

Institutions need policies to protect staff from these kind of reputational attacks, of which Gamergate was a prototype. If you’re a marginalised academic, for example, does your uni have a plan for the day you wake up to 200 emails calling you a nonce for being “woke”?

This "impartial" EHRC? www.vice.com/en/article/e...

Literally can't imagine an article like this getting published in a UK paper of the NYT's standing

Morning y'all, this gator fan wishes you all a happy Flat Fuck Friday. Roll the clip.

It’s okay to be rude to people who want you to die

Making the lede "Bluesky CEO misspeaks in interview" is rather hostile BBC, especially when #Bluesky is safer for 13-18 year olds than Twitter/X for sure. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

disney exec: it’s about a guy who thinks he’s a monkey lol. probably don’t need anything too crazy for the soundtrack. phil collins: [eyes glowing white, levitating above the ground] no

I’ve been invited to take part in two “public debates” in London in the last two weeks, and like… guys I don’t care? I’m an actor, I’ve got better things to do than prop up Baroness Terfina Warrcrimes’ columnist career by letting her yell at me about porn for an evening

But why does this chocolate bar look like the bottom of a foot

one thing i was entirely wrong about over the last few years was in my consistent belief that, while not good, a Labour government would be meaningfully better for trans people than Tories had been

there’s a lot of hand-wringing about the possibility of Reform winning MSPs in 2026, but IMO it’s worth noting that the Scottish Tories are effectively on-par with them in practice at this point

Every once in a while I see some chud complaining I was a perfectly good writer until I started writing about politics and I'm all, motherfucker, I had a newspaper column where I wrote about politics long before I wrote novels, I was never NOT writing about politics, where the hell have YOU been

Hey I should probably start actually posting here right, and not just reposting other people's stuff. So here is my Rook. #DragonAgeVeilguard

Dems already did this on immigration and got painted as open border communist globalists anyway. This simply does not work. Dems need to have a back bone and actually argue from their differences with conservatives rather than bending over and adopting conservative lite positions because of polls.

A trans woman simply appears in public and even people who would consider themselves trans allies refer to her as an 'activist': a loaded word. Whereas transphobic cis women who spend their lives campaigning against trans rights are never called 'activists' by the same people. Language matters.

One day later

Labour is turning a big dial that says 'Transphobia' on it and constantly looking back at the audience for approval like a contestant on the price is right.

Making fun of the people on Bluesky for being theater kids or whatever is hilarious, because I'd rather interact with a person who can sing every song in Cats than a literal Nazi

'I consider him like Hitler. But I voted for the man' What.

When I was at school we were taught how successfully Germany had responsibly learned from and moved on from its fascist past. As the German far right flourishes and the government throws its support behind a state ethnic cleansing neighbouring territories... it was all just bollocks, wasn't it?

If you think Chris Rufo, Steve Bannon and Donald Trump give a quantum shit about *the integrity of women's sports,* you should be legally prohibited from commenting on US politics. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Labour’s ban on puberty blockers for trans kids has been extended again, to 31/12/24. The ban means that trans people and their families are not allowed to make their own medical decisions. The government has provided no evidence supporting this decision.

This is, again, the influence of right-wing propaganda. "Men aren't allowed to flirt with women anymore!" is a universal truism in male-dominated spaces and something I've never heard a straight woman say.

I just want to point out that Colorado went above and beyond to pass laws protecting trans kids this year and the result was them holding the House supermajority and keeping the Senate majority while losing zero seats (flipping one, and losing the one that was the guy who changed parties)

The NHS continue their campaign of employing anti trans activist clinicians who mislead the public about conversion therapy to set the training agenda on trans healthcare for children and young people.

I'm sure all those who really care about women's sport and changing rooms are furious about this right? Right? I'm sure they're also angry at Arsenal women's Champions League match being moved from the Emirates Stadium to a different ground because the men need the stadium that night now. Right?
