This is my favorite picture of Stonewall. They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+. Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them. I think about it a lot in moments like this.

A good man died today. A man who “waged peace”, who understood that faith is a verb and that community service makes our world stronger. He was mocked and vilified by those who could never aspire to his humble altruism. And I will always admire him. Rest in Power, Mr. Carter.

I got emotional watching eulogies for President Carter yesterday. Not so much because he has died. He lived a long and abundant life. But more because his death seems to toll the end of civility, respect and the desire to help others through good works and just… I don’t know… being a good person.
