We did it! Kokoro TTS (v1.0) can now run 100% locally in your browser w/ WebGPU acceleration. Real-time text-to-speech without a server. ⚡️ Generate 10 seconds of speech in ~1 second for $0. What will you build? 🔥

Today is truly a sad day for the Python community, as we mourn the passing of Michael “voidspace” Foord. Most people will know him for his mock package (and later stdlib module), but those of us who had the pleasure to meet him… almost all my memories of him are delightfully goofy. 1/2

PyPy (pie pie) != PyPI (pie pea eye) Nobody forced us to do this. We did this to ourselves.

Season of KDE is back with 14 new projects. 15 mentees will work with 11 mentors to add features, develop new educational games, create documentation, improve the power consumption of KDE apps and assist Windows users to migrate to Linux. Check out the projects: mentorship.kde.org/blog/2025-01...

The debate around AI is polarized: either it's taking our jobs tomorrow or it's just hype. Anyone who's actually used AI for longer than a few minutes knows the truth is far less sensational.

Playing around with my AI assistant, thought I'd DoS'd it but it was just dreaming up these whacky hallucinated lyrics over & over 😆 #AI #speech #Python #Llama youtube.com/shorts/mSZ8a...

If only they'd done this years ago! We'd have loved the marketing genius of: "Microsoft That Vlookup App" "Type Stuff with Red Underlining App" "Squeeze Points On A Slide App" #Microsoft #Office www.xda-developers.com/microsoft-re...

There's that cliché 80% of AI/ML is spent on data. But sometimes it feels like 99% of work is dealing with admin/infrastructure -> the remaining ~20 minutes in a week is for AI/ML. So removing the time for data... you get 4 minutes for the smart bit. Better get it right! #AI #Work

🤔 You know in retrospect it seems so obvious these are the words... And they certainly make much much more sense than: "Go along like Starbucks lovers" 😆 #TaylorSwift

Happy New Year! It's snowing here but I've got lots of plans to get drawings those churches once winter is over. Was at a lovely event at #Leicestercathedral yesterday and back to school tomorrow so in the meantime here's #stjohnthebaptist #church #Belton #drawing #Anglican #churches #sketchbook

Excuse me while I sob hysterically. My 15yo has been working since July on her year-long school project, and she chose to hand-paint, write, and print a cookbook of family recipes. It's so beautiful. Welcome to the author club, kiddo 💗

There has been a definite shift in recent weeks where insiders in the various AI labs are suggesting that very intelligent AIs are coming very soon. I wrote a bit about why this might be happening and what we can take away from their apparent confidence. www.oneusefulthing.org/p/prophecies...

CAG > RAG While RAG systems are predominate, researchers have a simpler approach that could work better for many: Cache-augmented Generation (CAG). Instead of retrieving documents on the fly, CAG preloads all relevant knowledge into the model's extended context window. arxiv.org/abs/2412.15605

discuss.python.org/t/a-new-tail... suggests that using tail call support available in Clang 19 leads to a 10% perf improvement in #CPython

Pillow 11.1.0 is out! One of the cool updates is we're using zlib-ng 2.2.2 instead of zlib 1.2.8/1.3.1, which is more than twice as fast at saving PNGs at higher compression levels. github.com/python-pillo... #Pillow #Python #PythonPillow #release #zlib #zlibng #png

Just released version 0.2.2 of uv-secure pypi.org/project/uv-s... now with support for toml configuration including pyproject.toml - still got lots of catching up to do with pip-audit but happy to have one small feature they don't yet. Hope to support hierarchical config for mono repos soon. #python

Rest in peace to Submariner LT James Earl Carter Jr, USN (Ret). Carter, the only U.S. President to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy, leaves a legacy of service. The USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23), a Seawolf-class fast-attack submarine, carries his name in honor of his dedication to our nation.

Many people talk about the "Golden Age of Antibiotics", but I hadn't seen it visualized properly. Just how many types of antibiotics were discovered during that time? So, I visualized it myself!

Hey there. Here is a paper I wrote on autonomous agents that autonomously navigate the desktop user interfaces. “Towards Automated Exploration of Interactive Systems” Sorry it’s not on arXiv right now. Here’s the PDF: faculty.cc.gatech.edu/~riedl/pubs/...

Anyone else planning to do dry January? - no humidifiers - no lotion - cooking chicken to 180 F - chapstick AS NEEDED only - 10:1 gin:vermouth ratio

Love is... ... reaching the final 15 minutes of a box set and stopping, because she fell asleep and will miss the end 💕 #LoveIs

Pretty accurate 🫣 how mighty google have fallen off the cliff 😅

Anyone else noticing oddities with Bluesky notifying you have a new follower, only for it to be the same person who followed you earlier? I assume this isn't people randomly following, unfollowing and refollowing repeatedly, since I'm seeing it with a range of accounts that seem otherwise normal

When you upload a Sora video to LinkedIn you can hover over an icon and see this, as a result of automated watermarking from OpenAI. Of course, they are pretty easy to remove, but this seems like a reasonable initial step to note AI content. Wonder if Blue Sky will start doing this too

I want to be able to tell my computer, "This is the volume at which I want to hear EVERYTHING. Do whatever you have to behind the scenes so that no matter if I'm watching YouTube or Max or Netflix or listening to music it will all be at the same volume with no intervention on my part."

I’m really excited to announce that the CPython project (www.python.org) has hit a huge milestone by integrating the Arm runners on GitHub! This isn’t just a tech update; it’s a sign of the awesome collaboration in the Python community. 😎

The joys of dealing with people who are willing to argue against best practices for what amounts to "we're too lazy to type out the code for a loop", optimising for keystrokes 😆 Front loading all their tea breaks, so they can stop work at the slightest excuse! #ModernWork
