Older, still hopeful, still queer, still working for a better world where we can all feel safe enough to be our authentic selves. Love strange books, disturbing films, music that makes me think. And of course anglo saxon vocabulary. Fuckers

Honestly I hope Judge Van Dyke never picks up an appeal of a sodomy case

we're not throwing trans people under the bus for any fucking reason. None. There are two sides: the one that throws people under buses and the side that does not. Choose which one you are on.

We are once more again seeing the distortion created by who has access to media. Numerous columns from or about people earning "only" £150k on the horror of private school VAT but barely anything from the hundreds of thousands at risk from genuine deprivation via PIP changes.

First thing to do is change the name. A ‘Wealth Tax’ sounds like the sort of thing they could foist on anyone, & yes, in that dreaded phrase it probably does sound like it ‘penalises ambition’. I like ‘Billionaire Contribution to Make Up For the Crappy Wages They Pay’ but realise it may need work.

In biology, I keep thinking of the bacterial strains, yeast strains, plasmids, mouse lines, worm mutants etc etc etc that will be lost to science FOREVER because the freezers and animal facilities won't be maintained Generations of work will be lost in essentially an instant

I think it has more to do with you might get locked up for absolutely no reason at all and then flown to El Salvador to die in prison even though a judge said you should be released

"First They Came for Columbia" "We must learn from the past. We cannot remain silent in the face of authoritarian attacks on our peers, even if they have not yet come for us." Me and Levitsky in the Harvard Crimson www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

the whole "a computer wrote a nice short story" bullshit in the Guardian. yeah and pictures of the Virgin Mary have turned up in toast. doesn't mean we should get a fucking toaster to repaint the Sistine Chapel does it

The assertion of human rights is normally unpopular with those in power. That’s why we have them.

It’s only a trade war if it’s from the Tradeoir region of France, otherwise it’s just sparkling recession

I give you the double act of @samfr.bsky.social and @explaintrade.com

It should terrify everyone that a green card holder was black bagged and disappeared to Louisiana simply for having opinions this administration dislikes. They're building the prisons and camps to do it to citizens. The time to stand up to this is now.

OK so now that Reform UK are down to the same amount of MPs as the Green Party there really is no excuse for not giving them the same amount of screen time on current affairs shows.

This is the news we deserve. “These are the 1st images of humpbacks having sex, and they're both males 'It was not what I was expecting,' says biologist Stephanie Stack”

Still thinking about Newsom. For a Democratic leader to consent to a framework that portrays trans people as a group that is trying to take something away from other people is flatly unforgivable. It is what the right does. And a Democrat who will do it to one group will do it to any group.

I’m not a violent person, but it strikes me that the sooner Musk’s ideas are introduced to Madame Guillotine, the better for the rest of us.

We simply do not have to sacrifice the rights of trans people to save rights elsewhere and anybody that tells you otherwise is a fascist

The thing which is bugging me about this is foregrounding a scientific defence against "Empathy is bad" rather than noting that a society that values Empathy is the only society worth living in and the only one worth fighting for.

Really helpful way to look at the US hateful insanity. Also in the quest for hope, an opportunity to imagine a happier kinder more inclusive world.

🧵1/7 These are my 6 Leadership Principles During Conflict. Whether you apply these principles to political, business or social and romantic partnerships examples, you will see the truth of the benefits of upholding them, and the danger of ignoring them.

It’s insane to think that the Trump administration was more welcoming this week to the Tate brothers than to the President of Ukraine.

There are many good answers to this, but "Don't go" and "Boycott" are not among them. This is television. Television is one of the only things Trump cares about. Don't allow that room to be filled only with his admirers. Shout back, disrupt, challenge, boo, fight. Mess up his show and make it yours.

The more you know...

"I am one hundred per cent a Faithful."

“I’m looking for my friend Kimberly. Have you seen her?”

Voted for Trump, now have buyer’s remorse? The Trump philosophy seems to be his version of FAFO. Don’t buy anything on the 28th unless you absolutely have to. #Resist

With #BP announcing that they’ll slash investment in renewables, today feels like a particularly good day to sign @chrisgpackham.bsky.social petition to end fossil fuel greenwash👇

PM keeps saying cutting aid budget was a “hard decision”. Rubbish, it was an easy cowardly decision - those feeling impacts are 1000s of miles away & won’t trouble him. A harder decision might have been to stand up to vested interests who oppose a wealth tax - but it would’ve been right thing to do

Whoever described generative AI as the aesthetic of fascism made a sharp point.

DOGE is like if Fyre Festival was a government agency.

Sorry for making you look at him but yet again, as with Peterson, Musk, Montgomerie and so many others, the turn to the hard/far right begins with obsessive transphobia. It might be the primary driver of rightwing radicalisation over the last decade. They always bring it up.

I was at a punk show in 83 where a skinhead jumped up on stage and gave a Nazi salute. The bass player hit him with his bass, knocking him into the crowd and 150 people collectively hauled his ass out of the venue and threw him in the mud. This was the right and only appropriate response.
