I hope my friends in Poland have no illusions about this administration. No matter how much you praise them or speak kindly, they will still attack you the moment you have even the slightest disagreement.

Any country, corp, org, or individual that uses Starlink is subject to the whims, wishes, demands and insults of The Owner. Do so at your peril.

Netanyahu is a war criminal

That must be one of the most Orwellian statements ever. It’s bad enough to cut people’s benefits. To pretend some kind of higher “moral” duty while you’re doing so is insulting and offensive

We have to get the #BigMoney out of politics. #democracy - it would be a good idea www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

The best UK political podcast at the moment. Serious topics and well-sourced facts/research in a warm, easy-going conversational tone.

"... he [Trump] and Vance are using a completely different calculus ... a leadership team that believes geopolitics is a game of cards played by strong men and great powers is one whose support and co-operation other countries should quickly build independence from"

Excellent by @jburnmurdoch.ft.com in FT on the very different values that guide actions of current US administration compared with values in liberal democratic Europe. I made this point at event a couple of weeks ago and was agog at how many people just don’t believe it www.ft.com/content/3046...

"This is a chance to put Britain back at the heart of Europe in more ways than just on defence." Our work has never been more vital. Please find out how you can help. ~AA www.bestforbritain.org/statement-b4...

The @thegreenparty.bsky.social believes that society’s richest, I'm talking about the multi-millionaires and billionaires, should pay a bit more in tax to invest in our country. If you believe millionaires like Tice & his mates should pay more tax, join.greenparty.org.uk.

What's Eating Paul Marshall? Was a huge pleasure to talk to @sturdyalex.bsky.social for this week's @quietriotpod.bsky.social podcast all about the increasingly influential Unherd/GBNews/Spectator owner. Do listen! podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/s...

Here's a prediction: neither Russia nor America are going to much like the post-NATO world they're busy engineering.

The next Canadian Prime Minister should appoint Trudeau as Ambassador to the United States.

Hi gang. My films ‘In The Loop’ and ‘The Death of Stalin’ are on #BBCFour this evening, at 9pm and 10.40pm. Do enjoy if you’re a fan of repeated threat.

Tufton Street reporting for duty…

This is so important. Of all the various survivors whose trauma I've been intimately shown, disfellowshipped JWs are the bravest.

Most absolutely basic, basement-level rule of law has just five (5) votes on the Roberts Court. Do not be comforted by this. It suggests there are 4 votes for fascist dictatorship on the court

For decades, The Economist has been the cheerleader for transatlantic co-operation. Today's editorial ends that. "Europe must prepare to be abandoned or extorted. Not to prepare for that could leave Europe vulnerable to Russia & to an increasingly hostile America. That is the tragedy of Mr Trump."

Anglophone shame

Many in the British political and media class continue to find it hard to accept or come to terms with how toxic Trump is.

Word of the day is ‘lickspittle’ (17th century): a person who fawns upon someone in power for personal gain.

Jon Stewart says it exactly as I saw it

"Now I want to speak directly to one specific American. Donald... it's not in my habit to agree with the Wall Street Journal, but, Donald, they point out that even though you're a very smart guy, this is a very dumb thing to do." ~AA

If Trump was President in 1940

The Noble Peace Prize is awarded by a committee appointed by the Norwegian Parliament. Good luck Donald

A well rounded politics is recognising both Ukraine and Palestine are being betrayed right now

"If Starmer wants to lead, if he wants to be a 21st century Ernest Bevin and create a new European security apparatus, he may find others will follow ... the danger will come if Starmer chooses ... tactics over strategy and temerity over courage."

Since I wrote this midweek, the weight on Starmer’s shoulders has become even heavier, the task even greater. But as dark as things are, the prize is still there, if he has the political imagination to take it.

These are dark days. But for Starmer, the collapse of the old order is a moment of political promise. He can use it to remake his premiership and the continent: new political space has unfolded before him in every direction. Will he seize it? New writing from me. open.substack.com/pub/goodalla...

It’s insane to think that the Trump administration was more welcoming this week to the Tate brothers than to the President of Ukraine.

"British defence, foreign affairs and intelligence officials are completely instinctive in their transatlanticism. Talking to some of them in recent days I have a sense of a class of people still refusing to face the new reality unfolding before them."

Trump cannot be given a state visit to the UK. It should never have been offered. The invitation must now be withdrawn. You might as well hand it to Putin.

In an extraordinary display of public support, heads of state, heads of government, and foreign ministers from all over Europe and Canada are posting in support of Ukraine in response to the Oval Office meeting with Trump, Zelenskyy, and Vance.

REMINDER: The previous government estimated that a UK US Free Trade Agreement could boost the UK economy by 0.16%. And Frontier Economics for @bestforbritain.bsky.social analysis estimates an improved UK EU deal could boost the UK economy by 2.2%, staying outside the CU and SM. That's the 'math'

Kudos 👏👏👏

Beyond belief. Is this really the man we’re going to fawn over with a State Visit? It’s time for our PM to pick a side

In the end, our generation has often wondered what we would do when confronted with fascism. It's here now.

Perhaps we can stop being so parochial about Starmer's trip to Washington now. It was a failure. We are in a battle against fascism. And every decision we make is judged by whether it assisted or opposed it.

Trump berates Zelensky, the leader of a democratic country courageously fighting Russian imperialism, while he allies himself with Putin, a dictator who started the bloodiest European war in 80 years. Sorry, President Trump. We believe in democracy, not authoritarianism.

Slava Ukraini

YouGov deep dive on the Greens: - One in five Britons would consider voting for the Green Party - Includes a ~third of 2024 Lib Dem and Labour voters - Half of Lib Dem and Labour voters would be happy to see Greens enter govt as part of a coalition 1/…

As our growth report by Frontier Economics showed, the UK and EU pursuing deep beneficls alignment will eliminate entirely the negative impact of tariffs on the UK and reduce them by a third on the EU. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...
