"But ya fuck one goat, and they never let you forget it." RIP Norm McDonald ...

Sorry about not getting a moon base yet. Not sorry for ditching the polyester pantsuit for all look.

If only everything we have of Thucydides' work was out of copyright so freely available on the Internet, instead of people having to buy it from B&N. Or, if he really wants to buy it, he could order it in. Or go to a library and get it, again, for free.

What's the opposite of a cat-astrophe?

And Fagan pretty much hates everything, from touring to fans to radio to that time Michael McDonald got squeaky because they asked him to sing out of his range. It's his job as Official Curmugeon.

Our library abolished fines after my kid rang up a doozy. We made him pay for it out of his Christmas money, but then it clicked for me that lots of kids don't have those resources, and even $5 in fines can be a lifetime borrowing ban. And we have a fund to replace lost / damaged books.

Librarian tip: Scan the list for authors you hate. If they are being used to sell the book in your hand, you will probably not like it, either.

I was wondering where you were coming from until I got to the bottom of the thread & saw you were pitching subs to a different pub. You can do that w/out (falsely) running down the most steadfastly supportive major publication in the English-speaking world. I trust the Graun. You? Less so now.

I agree. But I would just like the standard for the family of the (senator/ veep / pres / dogcatcher) to be higher than "His influence peddling wasn't technically a crime." And it's not in the USA anymore. That's a problem, perhaps the problem, with our politics.

"Relatively." His unqualified, drug-using son was getting very wellpaid to be a Biden, and the Dem response was "It wasn't illegal." I naively would like the standard to be higher than "you can't prove a quid pro quo."

I was thinking of how many voters were so well convinced that it didn't matter which side was in power in November. I see Dems wondering how the voters could not understand the basic differences between the parties. I ain't no senator's son? Hunter B used his silver spoon for gain.

That's who Joe Biden is ... an old-school, enrich himself and his family career politician. Failure to confront that gives credence to the charge that both parties are the same, enabling the catastrophe that is DJT. The pardon will just reinforce that idea and give Trump 100% cover for his pardons.

Dan Tyminski tells about being offered the gig to sing "Constant Sorrow." He told his wife about this voice over role. She hadn't heard the term so he explained he would be singing but it would be George Clooney on screen. She replied "Oh Dan, your voice & George Clooney's face ... it's my fantasy!"

Ignore the etymologies about English servants getting the day off. They are at best beside the point. It's the day where you just eat leftovers and read your new 📚 and play your new boardgames or puzzles in your pajamas all day. No deadlines, timetables, stress or ceremonies. Now THAT'S a holiday.

Is "Canadian providence" intentional or a typo?

We also won serious awards, like the First Amendment reporting award for a series on a local law enforcement. But the headlines were the fun ones.

What it would take is real, transformational leadership. Instead I hear Premier Ford on BBC via PBS bragging about how if Ontario had control of the border instead of the feds, "a mouse couldn't get through."
