Labour does this because they know it won't lose them any votes. Taxing more fairly will do. The English would rather take a penny off a pauper than a pound off a billionaire. But yes, absolutely, fuck Keir Starmer for not showing some mettle. I've never been so disgusted with Labour

I don't agree with Johnny's conclusions, but the point about the midlist is well made, and also depressing. It overlaps with the Star Trek problem - series used to have 22 episodes per season to develop characters. Most of those episodes were mid, but they established a show in people's minds.

About a quarter of a century ago I was warning everyone that the internet would destroy the midlist. Mass appeal, big money stuff would survive. Niche stuff made for peanuts would survive. But the area in-between would be hollowed out. And, lo, it came to pass.
