Maybe people didn’t engage with his work with any substance because his work was lacking substance.

It makes sense to me to withhold their presence from Council to highlight the accountability for members. What we have now is exceedingly vague, if not nonexistent. And in Councilor Nguyen’s post, there was a statement about accountability but without details about what accountability means.

Showing up is also a powerful statement, especially if coupled with a message about charter change to empower more voters. That’s a concrete step, rather than one person refusing to act anymore. Refusing to be present will alienate more people than it inspires, I fear.

I’m not sure what the goal is here. And I think that might be part of why it doesn’t feel effective to me.

I’m more of a “don’t let the turkeys get you down” kind of person. I also haven’t received even a fraction of the hate and abuse Councilor Nguyen has, so I understand their reasons for remaining off the Council floor. I’m just not sure that it will be an effective protest tactic.

I can see that. But it’s also going to embolden some of the worst actors to amp up the harassment campaigns to drive off anyone they think shouldn’t serve in the City Council. And there are a lot of non-transphobic voters who will see only the absence, not the reason behind it.

There are a lot of people very happy that Councilor Nguyen is voluntarily removing themselves from the Council. That’s something to consider.

And if you aren’t on the Worcester Reddit forum, I apologize for making you aware of it. It’s not as bad as the Worcester Eats Facebook page, but with all the national news about the sanctuary city vote, it’s become a cesspool of hate lately.

In the background is the Powerhouse Theater smokestack, so I think it’s a wing of Ferry House, a co-operative dorm. Thanks for sharing the picture!

Is that Ferry House?

I always interpreted that line as a critique of Irishmen joining the British Army to fight in WW1 rather than fight for independence.

It was written in the 60s- the author of the song has spoken about how it was written as a critique of the British Empire both home in Ireland and abroad.

It also helps if a Democratic member of Congress can speak to a wavering GOP member and point to unrelenting pressure from their constituents. The GOP member is getting the same pressure, they need to know it’s universal. Democracy is participatory.

The community came out to have their voices heard. Colorio didn’t listen and delayed resolution for another week. Which one is not talking?

They control all three branches of government, and Congress & the Supreme Court are bowing down to his illegal and unconstitutional orders. That’s why.
