Gracie's Ice Cream sticker spotted in the wild

stolen valor! my hometown has maybe one point of interest and I will defend it proudly.

Hello everybody! Hello! Hello. Hello? Hi. I am LIVE AND IN THE CHAMBERS for tonight's meeting of the Somerville, MA City Council! Who wants some local civics? God I could use some local civics right now. Close the door. Keep out the devil. somervillema.legistar.com/MeetingDetai...

This is a loss. Boston Organics' local produce box introduced me to many vegetables I wouldn't have normally considered. blog.bostonorganics.com/in-farewell

There's been ample coverage of high gas bills and the technical reasons why, but this is the first time I've heard someone (rightfully) describe the root cause as regressive policy: renters subsidizing heat pumps for property owners. www.wbur.org/news/2025/02...

On my walk to Porter Sq, I pass by billboards advertising "battle-ready AI" and this one that seems somewhat vague until you look up the sponsor's views on Palestine. I will vote for whichever mayoral candidate pledges to ban billboards.

Tomorrow night, the Somerville City Council is set to pass a Home Rule Petition to abolish forced broker fees! In November, I joined with @votejivan.bsky.social & @enriquepepen.bsky.social (& @bonniejin.bsky.social ) to put municipal pressure on the state to end this exploitative practice.

It's ridiculous to label the MBTA Communities Law an "unfunded mandate" when it is a net-positive for municipal finances. Embracing new neighbors and smart, transit-oriented development is a win-win. commonwealthbeacon.org/housing/a-ne...

Jason Mackey's "bold vision" for Somerville is an app.

Today, two sanctuary cities in Massachusettsā€”Chelsea and City of Somervilleā€”filed a federal lawsuit today challenging the Trump Administrationā€™s efforts to coerce them into participating in mass deportation efforts. šŸ§µ

Somerville & Chelsea are suing the federal government to protect our right to prioritize LOCAL SAFETY. We're a Welcoming Community ā€“ our police focus on local crime, not federal immigration enforcement.

According to a press release from the city today, we receive about $20M in federal funds annually - between 5% and 10% of the city budget, depending on how you count it.

www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m... - I appreciate Ed Yong's work and especially his *approach* to that work. I enjoyed listening to this conversation.

you should be embarrassed to say things like this at a public meeting

As a developmental biologist with a PhD on animal reproductive systems, my professional response this is: fuck you, fascists

Also, it's sad to see the Somerville Times publish what is either an opinion piece or paid advertising under "news". I don't recommend them as a news source these days, unfortunately.

Jason Mackey is as qualified to run Somerville as Billy Tauro. I don't know him for his "track record of problem-solving" but instead for his history of arguing against bike lanes and for directly and indirectly fighting against Erika Uyterhoeven. www.thesomervilletimes.com/archives/138...

I think the Davis Sq Neighborhood Council has the right perspective here.

I've little to add that Chris hasn't said better. I'd eat my shoe if $60k's worth of officer-enforcement time made a significant public safety difference. IMHO we'd be better off investing that money and saving it to purchase automated enforcement tools once the state legalizes them.

My post on the traffic safety grant at last Thursday's city council meeting has gotten a bit of attention. I want to provide a bit of clarification and to accept the corrections offered by Councilors @benforward3.bsky.social and @jake4somerville.bsky.social. bsky.app/profile/some... 1/?

Remember when the City Council rejected this grant when it used to have arrest quotas, and then the state removed them? If the Council wants to see it change again, they need to send a forceful message.

Hello Somerville, I am once again LIVE AND IN THE CHAMBERS for this evening's meeting of the City Council. I have nothing snappy to say. Let's dig in. somervillema.legistar.com/MeetingDetai... 1/?

This is infuriating. The whole council is so, so familiar with this grant and the reoccurring debate that surrounds it.

Y'all, let's acknowledge that Somerville PD (like any police force) just wants to be the bully. They're not going to bother drivers. They identify with them! Cyclists? Nah.

the silver spoon nepo baby billionaire Josh Kraft gave Buddy Carter $1500 in 2020. Buddy Carter has now filed legislation to seize Greenland.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time Iā€™ve heard of someone trying to trade in a CyberTruck and the company saying no. www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/...
