A life of a person with disabilities. Not worthy of love. Not worthy of marriage. Not worthy of housing. Not worthy of leaving your province. Not worthy of eating. Not worthy of mental health services. Not worthy of housing. Not worthy of poverty level support!! šŸ˜”

Will the government increase ODSP to mitigate the disproportionate impact of tariffs on persons with disabilities, who are already struggling with food insecurity and a high cost of living?

Support and social assistance rates must be adjusted to keep pace with skyrocketing rents; it's the only fair solution.

The governmentā€™s plan for the disabled relies heavily on the idea that people with disabilities have families who can afford to support them.

Perhaps the reason poverty persists is that there is no consensus on who is responsible for addressing it. The reality is that all levels of government have a role to play in eliminating poverty.

Decades of austerity measures and frozen support rates have eroded the effectiveness of ODSP, which was initially designed to keep people with disabilities above the poverty line, and has instead allowed support to fall increasingly behind the rising cost of living.

All Canadians should be angry about this story. The only reason the media is talking about this man's story is because he was an MPP There are Millions of Canadians loving on similar social safety net programs screaming for help only to be offered MAiD I worked 20+y & Ford leaves me in poverty

When you become disabled - you donā€™t just lose your health. You lose your autonomy, independence, freedom and often ā€¦ your friends & family. Help doesnā€™t magically arrive. No one comes to save you. In fact - most people will blame and abandon you. šŸ§µ

If you think disabled people: Need to ā€œtry harderā€ to survive Can magically find money where none exists Are exaggerating the lack of help available Are getting needs met by the government Read this šŸ‘‡šŸ¼ The government just raised 25k to protect one of their own šŸ§µ/1

We say these are "health issues" but... We criminalize homelessness. We criminalize poverty. We criminalize people who use drugs. We criminalize addiction. We criminalize mental health issues. Health issues are solved by supporting people, not by punishing them! #Healthissue

ODSP; The punishment you get for being ill.

#homeless #unhoused #harmreduction

So Doug Ford is going to criminalize homelessness. Fines up to $10 THOUSAND. Because the homeless sure have 10 grand lying around the tent. How dare they not be able to afford rent when they're getting exactly $582 for their housing on ODSP (disability pension) when a 1 bdrm is $1500/mth?

We need accountability for systemic harm. Itā€™s a crime to kill someone. But no one bats an eye if a politician cuts disability payments leading disabled people to starve to death. Power and paperwork are a shield mass murderers hide behind.

Merry Christmas Dougie, you sat on this file the entire time you were in office and now that another Christmas is rolling around you are going to round up vulnerable people. That's my definition of a heartless prick....#onpoli toronto.ctvnews.ca/enough-is-en...

Looking at the fifth annual report on MAiD in Canada from 2023 and almost half of track 2 recipients (47.1%) reported "isolation or loneliness" as the source of their suffering. Not surprising but still hard to read. Hits very close to home. www.canada.ca/en/health-ca...

Disabled people can go on holiday. Disabled people can socialise. Disabled people can go to the gym. Disabled people can seem totally "normal". None of that means they're not disabled. Also none of it means they're "able to work".

disabled people don't make enough money. I think we know this. What we may not know is how much stress, worry and fear - real fear - this puts on a disabled person. The emotional tolls of disability poverty go unspoken, and that is a big problem. We need to talk about it all the time.

disabled people are lonely by design because 1. we don't get enough money to engage in social outings 2. we can't marry or move in with people without losing benefits 3. there is not enough accessibility for us out in the world. 4. ableist attitudes.

@justintrudeaupm.bsky.social ALL I want for Christmas Raise the CDB Amount Demand Provinces Fix Provincial Funding on all Social Safety Net Programs Confirm No Clawbacks Get People out of Poverty

ā€œPeople who are homeless are not the problem. Theyā€™re the evidence of the problemā€ Now THATā€™S an appropriate and accurate news headline about the homelessness problem. #ONpoli #TOpoli #VoteFordOut #NeverVoteConservative

And tying what are already abject-poverty level disability rates to household income just creates the conditions for abuse and violence to occur further. www.ctvnews.ca/canada/they-...

If youā€™re newly disabled - you may find one of the toughest battles youā€™ll have is with yourself. Unlearning internalized ableism, convincing yourself itā€™s ā€œokā€ to rest, ask for help & rely on othersā€¦ these are not easy things to do. But they are critically important for survival.

This is literally #ODSP and #OHIP in Ontario now. The Provincial Premier actually told us to get jobs or #suicide via MAiD. #odspoverty #disability @odspoor.bsky.social

Come on America, we can do better!

Mental illnesses are real disabilities. ME is a real disability. Autism & ADHD are real disabilities. Every disabled person is different. Some may be able to do some things that others with the same diagnosis canā€™t do. Disabled people arenā€™t the problem.

little reminder that ODSP gives 1368 per month to survive on in a province where average 1 bedroom rent is well above that. a LOT of those homeless are disabled people who simply can't afford anything anywhere.

ā€œHis application for euthanasia listed only one health condition as the reason for his request to die: hearing loss. Nicholsā€™ family reported the case to police and health authorities, arguing that he lacked the capacity to understand the process and was not suffering unbearableā€

Why do long-term care facilities often have air conditioning in nursing stations, but not in patient rooms?

People who are homeless are more likely to have mental health issues compared to the general population.

In 2024, the estimated number of people experiencing homelessness in Canada ranges fromĀ 150,000 to 300,000. Homelessness costs Canadian society over $7 billion annually.

My AnXiEtY is out of control! How do you control your AnXiEtY?

We all want the option to peacefully end suffering. disabled people NEED to be factored into discussions. When medical systems are strained (as is the case in Canada & UK) assisted dying provides HUGE costs savings. This can result in ā€œuseless eatersā€ being pressured www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... šŸ§µ

i know this is inconvenient to some, but my chronic suicidal ideation has far less to do with my degenerative disabilities themselves & everything to do with the systems of oppression & profoundly dehumanizing policy choices that make life with disabilities difficult.

In this society, assisted dying for disabled people is not about dignity and autonomy. It is about devaluation and coercion.

So many disabled people have been sounding the alarm on MAID for years, and no one has been listening. Both the state and society, facilitated by physicians and politicians and journalists, are using MAID as a pressure release valve to preserve resources, not lives. So dangerous.

Rejection sensitivity is central to ADHD, autism, and cPTSD. Mental health services rarely understand rejection sensitivity, which is why people in all three diagnostic categories are so often told there is something wrong with their personality. There isnā€™t. #HumanNotPD

So much of being disabled is grieving. Grieving the body youā€™ll never have, grieving the capabilities you used to have but no longer do, grieving friends and family who no longer reach out. Itā€™s a heavy, ongoing type of grief that is compounding.

Sitting here wondering what I can take out of my shopping cart because I can't afford the basics. Do I take out eggs? Milk? Cheese? Fresh fruit & veg? Definitely not getting gf bread at $8 a loaf. How else can I starve myself to feed my kid enough?

Wait time for a disabled person to access medically assisted death in Canada? 3 months A specialist for TREATABLE conditions? 12-18 months Affordable housing? Multiple years Palliative care, psychiatric care & pain management? Good luck. This is why weā€™re scared. Via @paulapeters19.bsky.social
