There are currently three open faculty positions (all levels) in my department (Psychology) Oslo is a lovely city, modestly sized (600k) but a capital, surrounded by forest and the fjord We're also a stable democracy with high support of and trust in science www.sv.uio.no/english/abou...

Here are some cool animations I made a couple years ago for teaching DAG-based causal inference Confounding!

I tried it out and think it's a great tool. Not perfect for every type of research (especially the more technical, mathy type), but I can get the main gist of a research paper on my 30-minute commute to work, which I think helps a lot in staying up-to-date with the literature.

Phenome-wide association studies (PheWAS) are a powerful tool for uncovering drug repurposing opportunities and unexpected side effects of novel targets📊 🧬 The best open-access resources for PheWAS analyses👇

I've been developing a semantic search tool that covers not just bioRxiv and medRxiv, but the entire PubMed database. This means you can search across a massive collection of biomedical research using keywords, questions, hypotheses, or even full abstracts. Try it out: mssearch.xyz

One function per week, this time we show you `check_itemscale()`, which computes various measures of internal consistencies applied to (sub)scales from items that were extracted using `principal_components()`, or supplied as data frame. #easystats #rstats easystats.github.io/performance/...

🚨NEW PAPER! Together with Wuno Akingbuwa (@wonuola.bsky.social) we developed a way to estimate non-linear genetic correlations. It didnt sit well with us that known non-linear relations (e.g. BMI and MDD with a famous U shaped ) are poorly captured in statistical genetics. 🧵

Friends, I have written you a book on forensic metascience. It is free. You can have it. Happy St. Valentine's Day. If you wish to give me a gift back, you can use it to cause trouble - the greatest gift of all. open.substack.com/pub/jamescla...

Thank you for including me. I really like this paper and I refer to it all the time. Hopefully it can find a good home.

I have now spent almost four months to get this paper with @ericfauman.bsky.social desk-rejected from three journals (Genetic Epidemiology, eLife and HGG Advances) and not really sure where to go from here. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1...

Think of a polygenic score you care about. Are direct genetic effects driving variation among people in this predictor? Or perhaps other, confounding factors? We at the @arbelharpak.bsky.social & @docedge.bsky.social Labs developed a method to tackle this question. [1/n]

Are parents and offspring similar in their personality? How far does the apple fall from the tree? We found the error-free parent-offspring correlation to be bigger than before (r=.30 vs r=.11)!

Sõna *maatriks* juured on ladina sõnas *mater* 'ema'. *Matrix* tähendas ladina keeles tiinet looma, hiljem kitsenes tähendus emakale, siis aga toetavale keskkonnale, kus midagi arendada/luua. Just viimasest tuleneb *maatriksi* tänapäevane tähendus.

🔥 AMAZING. Today, the Baltic states disconnected their power grids from that of Russia. It’s taken years of prep. What a moment.

Bluetorial-A dream and a bit of a nightmare Serving as Editor-in-Chief at Science was fascinating. I greatly enjoyed working with talented and committed editorial, news, graphics, and production staff. But the inside look into scientific publishing and AAAS was also deeply disillusioning.

Introducing a major upgrade to OmicsPred platform (www.omicspred.org) — a resource to enhance the accessibility and usability of genetic scores for multi-omic traits and their phenotypic associations. (1/N)

I have been selected as the recipient of the Estonian National Annual Research Award in Social Sciences for 2025. I feel truly honoured and humbled. I thank the members of the Estonian Biobank for their effort and trust, and my dear colleagues and students for their support and inspiration.

I haven't really used #rstats case_match before, but I think I'll start using it more. It's a nice little time saver and reduces repetition.

Mendelian randomization (MR) has been criticized due to a flood of papers based on the output of a single R command. But MR can offer valuable insights into disease etiology and can be really fun Some interesting MR applications in examples from our work over the years 🧵 1/17

Could you imagine that a young adult asks a psychologist: will I be a different person by the time I retire? Would this be a meaningful question? If yes, what could a psychologist say and why? (Thinking about this for a paper I work atm)
