My book, the NES Endings Compendium Volume 2, is available for purchase! Here's a free PDF sample of the kind of graphics you'll get: drive.google.com/file/d/1ybzs...

#todayinGoemonhistory Goemon: New Age Shutsudō! was released on February 28, 2002 for the GBA. It was an adaptation of Goemon: Shin Sedai Shūmei! on the PlayStation—a futuristic spin-off/re-boot of the Ganbare Goemon series.

Hey, remember how the fishmen in Castlevania would come out of the water and jump really high? The Goonies 2, also by Konami, might explain why. In that game, the fishmen are in possession of the Jumping Shoes!

Pssst... It has never been a chicken leg! #Castlevania #KONAMI麻雀格闘倶楽部

Hey, ever wanted to see that Super Mario RPG credits parade in one long image? Well, now you can. It's massive, so if you can't fully see it on bsky, then check out this link: www.vgmuseum.com/features/smrpg

Did you know that in Super Mario RPG you can change the final fireworks explosion shown after the credits to either a Mushroom, Flower or Star? All you have to do is buy enough fireworks from that mole in Molehill!

Reminder that in Japan there's a special version of Excitebike released in 1997 for the Nintendo Satellaview that is not available to play using legal means.

It's interesting that what kicks off the story in all of the Ninja Turtles games for the NES is that April gets kidnapped. However, unlike most games, you always rescue her early in the story and not at the end. How's that for upending the trope table?

Have you ever seen the Nintendo Entertainment System model no. M82 in-store demo unit's start-up screen? Music was done by Hip Tanaka— AKA Metroid, Kid Icarus and Earthbound's composer! www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WEt...

Did you know that the story in Ninja Gaiden 2 for the NES takes place 1 year after the game's intro, and that Ninja Gaiden 3 took place in that 1-year gap? In other words, Ninja Gaiden 2 is both a prequel and a sequel to Ninja Gaiden 3.

Man, some NES games' stories are CA.RA.ZY! Skate of Die 2' story begins when you're skateboarding and accidentally squash to a pulp the mayor's wife's dog!

Shingen the Ruler is a strategy game for the NES. It must seem baffling to cover the art with all that text, but it's actually an ingenious way of providing a cheat sheet with important info for people that didn't have the manual (which was pretty much everyone that rented games).

No way! Luis Miguel music fit perfectly in Mario Kart games. m.youtube.com/watch?v=ej65...

The name's Bond, free-shipping, Bond.

There's quite a lot of Konami MSX games that never got released: * Konami's Pinball * Spelling Tree * Keyboard Master * Okazu shōron-ka (Side Dish Expert) * Jogging Mate All of these are from the October 1984 Konami Computer Software Catalog alone (cleaned up).

So, the 2nd volume of the NES Endings Compendium is finally in stores! Thanks to @lucasmthomas.bsky.social Art by @letitmelo.bsky.social

I wrote about all the monsters Final Fantasy 1 "borrowed" from D&D, and how the series has largely dropped or obfuscated many of these, even if some (notably the Mindflayer) have endured, IP be damned. www.thrillingtalesofoldvideogames.com/blog/final-f...

One year ago, I released this 12-hour video, featuring one minute of music from every SNES game released in the US and Canada! It also includes box art and title screens! Have you rocked out to this 16-bit chiptune compilation? www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7bQ...

Illustrations from Yume Tairiku Adventure MSX manual (cleaned up). This game was released in Europe as Penguin Adventure and was the first game that Hideo Kojima worked on as an assistant director (uncredited).

I'm not sure why Peter Mount chose Valentine's Day to upload 2,000 arcade game manuals but here we are. archive.org/details/@pet...

In an utopia, Capcom would bring back Inafune to restart Mega Man Legends 3's development as a Switch 2 game.

Grand Master is what a level-based Secret of Mana would have been like had it been released on the NES.

Nice, I never noticed these connections between 7th Saga, Mystic Ark, and Brainlord. I knew they were kinda connected like the Quintet games, but not like this. shmuplations.com/mysticark/

Maybe you didn't know if you've only played Metal Gear 2 on the modern re-releases, but in the original game, all the character portraits are shamelessly based off real-life people. Here are some of them: Sean Connery, Tom Berenger (Platoon), Albert Einstein, Richard Crenna (Rambo).

8-bit Metal Gear codec screens.

It's really sad that Silver Surfer's unrelenting and terrible difficulty prevented most people from enjoying it because it has some really nice graphics and it could have been a fun game! An energy bar and a smaller hitbox could have catapulted it to a "top 20" status.

Have you heard of @flashpv.bsky.social? It takes a special kind of person with an eye for detail to localize so many title screens. For many years, he's been the go-to person when a translator needs someone to localize a title screen. Take a look at his awesome work:

X-Men for the NES is a terrible game made even worse by the fact that you have to enter a cheat code to play the last stage. Part of the code is printed on the cart. Imagine you as a kid spending hours getting to the end only to find that you have to power off the NES to look at the game's label!
