hard to believe that our public institutions are suddenly behaving in a manner that many many people have been warning is the logical endpoint of a capitalist government for a hundred years

It’s a little more difficult to find an audience now that I’m off Substack, so could you share with friends who like books and shit-talking?

Fraud, waste, and abuse just means resources going to people they don't like. That's it.

"When a civilization is limited to work that produces profit... we distance ourselves from the values of care and generosity—and the simple but profound belief that what happens to one of us affects all of us." A marvelous piece by @annehelen.bsky.social.

Dear manager, please find a review of the past week's activity: 1) hammered in the morning 2) hammered in the evening 3) hammered out danger 4) hammered out a warning 5) hammered out love between my brothers and my sisters, all over this land

Maybe hating on dick bosses is the great unifier, the thing that brings all Americans together.

this is a whole thread of punching nazis! enjoy

I look forward to a day when even people I’d spit on for sport get low cost or even free insulin because I hate pointless deaths under capitalism.

“That is why Trumpists are so focused on “ending DEI” in the federal workforce. They see anti-discrimination and inclusion as a ladder of upward mobility for people they do not believe should have one.”

ok so what gets called "gender ideology" is jsut like "be who and how you want" and what gets called "not ideology" is like "follow these specific unwritten rules and perform these forbidden rituals according to the circumstances of your birth"

Another dataset I like is from the National Atmospheric Deposition Program, which has maps of the US that show we fixed the acid rain problem by implementing stricter emission controls on power plants. nadp.slh.wisc.edu/maps-data/nt...

"I take a tiny first step in the direction of peace and patience. Then, when I am not immediately flooded with peace and patience on demand, I become baffled and furious."

Others have remarked on this but the resurgence of the R word across the political spectrum is really wild? Like did I miss a memo about this? I expect it from some people but from others, you really can't come up with a better and more interesting way to describe people you don't like?

I have learned in recent years there are 10s of millions of Americans not only willing but eager to go watch a lynching from the comfort of a picnic blanket and the only thing that was holding them back was the social penalty; really makes you think about those who warn against social penalties.

“Democrats seem to be waiting for Trump, Musk, and MAGA to naturally become unpopular, instead of working overtime to make them unpopular. We can’t wait. We need a unified, aggressive, and creative opposition in this country.” Read more from @leahgreenberg.bsky.social and @ezralevin.bsky.social. 👇

People often assume the emotions associated with cruelty are hatred and anger, but it’s actually pleasure and joy. Fascists relish their cruelty. They roll it around on their tongue like a mouthful of full-bodied wine. They laugh as they harm.

Call the US government today, flood the lines and apply maximum pressure. Demand they do their jobs, arrest Musk, and impeach Trump. 5 minutes, 5 calls, repeat. #3E

True story: a few years ago, I was being interviewed by a reporter for the New York Times. I mentioned the history of eviction statutes and how they tied into Jim Crow. The reporter asked "what's Jim Crow?" When I explained, the reporter didn't believe me and said the US wouldn't do that.

NY Times repeatedly edited the headline. First changing it from "trans man" to "man", then changing it from "man" to "person". There is no innocent or flattering way to read this. This is simply post-death erasure, because the Times accepts and supports Trump's assertion that we do not exist.

To those folks screaming that no one is protesting, people are protesting. Where are you?

i feel like it's an open question whether or not the flu vaccine will even be available next season

This is fascism.

I see Martina Navratilova is running her mouth about trans people again, so I would like to once again remind cis gays, especially those into respectability politics, that those on the front lines of fighting for your rights have always been trans people, butches, drag queens, flamers, etc

One child starving to death who could have been saved should be a big deal, imo. It’s certainly a big deal to that kid’s family, to the doctors who had the ability to treat him but was told not to

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”

For years it was considered gauche to call Trump’s guys Nazis and now his government is led by literal Nazis.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

In front of Lurie children’s hospital in Chicago, hundreds of people are showing up to defend access to gender-affirming care for trans youth!! ❤️❤️❤️

like, this is just fucking insane. the government is pretending that it passed the Inverse Civil Rights Act overnight and everyone is acting like it's a real law.

Allegory alert!

People who refuse to sanitize what’s going on, who’s in charge on the Right, how extreme their goals are, tend to be discarded as “alarmists” or “hysterics.” Those who sanitize it all are upheld as “reasonable” voices. As a result, the broader public perception constantly underestimates the threat.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who killed so many children in Samoa they ran out of child-sized coffins, has been confirmed to lead Health and Human Services. The vote was 52-48. All Dems and Mitch McConnell, whose fault this is, voted no. All other Republicans voted yes. The blood will be on their hands.

Absolute phenomenal read for all of us who are feeling overwhelmed. We must regulate ourselves to move out of panic and fear and into collective action! Thank you to the incomparable @mskellymhayes.bsky.social and her comrades for sharing this vital and timely message.

it has been said before but one problem is that when some people say 'the economy' they're talking about poor people affording food and housing, & when some other people say 'the economy' they're referring to a chart of how happy rich people are

We only know this man is in Gitmo because Noem tweeted a propaganda photo that included him and his sister saw it. He has no criminal record. He entered the US in January and immediately made an appointment with CBP to claim asylum. They sent him to a concentration camp bc of his basketball tattoo.

Reminder: there is nothing feminist about transphobia. There is no “protection” of women in demonizing our trans community. And there is no way forward for a society that pretends to care about one group by hating another.

The American Bar Association has just called upon every attorney, regardless of their political views, to join them & stand up for the rule of law & at minimum insist that our government "follow the law." Every lawyer has an ethical responsibility to do so. www.americanbar.org/news/abanews...

I hope it is lost on precisely nobody that Musk's entire communications M.O. is an extremely obvious game of "I am rubber, you are glue." Call him an oligarch? The next day DOGE is "taking down the oligarchy" Call DOGE a coup effort? The next day efforts to stop it are "judicial coups"
