Damn! I came to challenge you on this with the movie Lethal Weapon but after some careful investigation... AI clearly states reasons for it to be considered a Christmas movie.
opening scene features "Jingle Bell Rock."
shootout at a Christmas tree lot.
holiday season is backdrop for various scenes.
A Christmas movie ain't a Christmas movie unless it's set in the 1940's but an outdoor shot has in the distance a yard full of streetcars built in 1980. I give you: A Christmas Story
Is a tree which could potentially be cut down to make a Christmas tree, but which we have no way of knowing whether or not it was ever so used, a Christmas tree?
If they are undecorated and growing in the ground they are not yet Christmas trees. They are still Norway Spruce/Nordman Firs etc; but then you already knew that.

N.B. This theory does not need to be verified with popular movies made after 1980 but of course I’m interested in any sick 40s noirs or warped 50s melodramas with brief glimpses of the tinsel.
Ooh, I didn't realise that! I watched it a long time ago, mostly as it's a well-known 'librarians in movies' film. Or well-known by librarians, anyway!
They also wrote the movie There’s No Business Like Show Business, a musical in which Ethel Merman and Mitzi Gaynor drag up and sing A Sailor’s Not A Sailor ‘(Til A Sailor’s Been Tattooed) but that was written by Irving Berlin so we shalln’t hold that against them. https://youtu.be/k1IvNmHin5c?si=asCZpAtMmAHGPucP
“Mitchell” 1975 starring Joe Don Baker is a “so bad it’s funny” movie that sneaks a Christmas tree into the living room of a drug smuggler. It even has presents under the tree. Begs the question, “who is getting presents for this drug smuggler and what kind of present do you get a drug smuggler?”
This.
I am saddened to learn today (from a Google) that although often played in December in cinemas, and frequently broadcast around the Christmas season, Gremlins is apparently not a Christmas movie.... despite Mogwai being a Christmas gift. 🤷♂️
The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe : there are no Christmas trees, it's set in summer during World War II and the Jesus figure literally dies and comes back to life!
Conclusion : It's a Christmas film! (Because of one five minute glimpse of Santa).
Is a Christmas tree a Christmas tree because of its decorations? Or, is a Christmas tree a pine tree and all its variations. Because if it's the later, that's a lot of Christmas movies.
If they are undecorated and growing in the ground they are not yet Christmas trees. They are still Norway Spruce/Nordman Firs etc; but then I’m thinking you already knew that.
Indeed. Brazil is a Christmas movie. Also, there's a day in the film where it's Christmas in Full Metal Jacket, so that counts as a Christmas movie to me.
Glad to see somebody else share that Brazil is a Christmas movie - something that I’ve been saying for years. It totally is. It even has Helpmann dressed as Santa.
I think you are right. There's a kind on "banality of evil" going on. Michael Palin touches on it in this interview: http://wideanglecloseup.com/palin.html
That would be like saying that a well known pop song that is re-released around Christmas, and just has some jingly bells added to it - does not make it a Christmas song...
Yeah... but it seems kinda phoned in. And OK this particular example is of course from a film. But there is one that I can't remember the name of right now, which is exactly the same as the original song, just with some added jingle bells in it.
Have to schedule my annual holiday viewing of “The Godfather.” It’s well known the scene with Michael and Kay shopping inspired all the later Hallmark Xmas specials.
Heartwarming tale of a family and friends who fall out then the main characters reconcile (kinda)one by one. There's even a cartoon sequence.and a little kid who's mama gets an unexpected visitor.
LOL a few years back we had a sale "all Christmas items 50% off". This lady found a huge fancy light timer that just happened to have a house with Christmas lights on it on the packaging.

Maybe a Schrödinger's Christmas Movie?
the annual 'debate' over Die Hard in particular is ridiculous
"There's got to be a morning after......"
Skeleton Christ by Slayer puts me in the holiday spirit for sure.
Now anytime I see a Christmas tree in a movie, I'm going to have to make a list and check it twice.
This Christmas tree concept will give more ammo in trying to convince my wife that they are, in fact, Christmas movies.
And, as we all know, if there's anything the Die Hard movies need, it's more ammo.
I KEEP meaning to watch Desk Set, not least because it’s scripted by Phoebe and Henry Ephron, parents of the more famous Nora.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Prometheus
The Godfather
Serendipity
All Christmas movies

https://parade.com/1313229/samuelmurrian/is-gremlins-a-christmas-movie/ makes some compelling reasons why the plot itself should make it worthy of Christmas Movie officialdom

Which isn't a movie about all the crazies who celebrate a second Christmas in June

I've been a very bad girl...
The hero flies in. Travels through the snow.
Quick romantic interlude
Delivers the goods
Leaves. Rescues kids on the way.
Guy travels through time and across the world. Lots of meetings with very old friends.
Gives lady friend a nice gift, which is actually hers.
Snowy scene flashback to Scotland where his truelove thanks him for the present of the boots he made for her.
Totally Christmassy
Another family tale, Father and Son estranged. Brought back together by a magical force. Lots of twinkling stars, too
Heartwarming tale of a family and friends who fall out then the main characters reconcile (kinda)one by one. There's even a cartoon sequence.and a little kid who's mama gets an unexpected visitor.
Lovely
Ok, no trees in Antarctica.
But. A bunch of folks having a bit of cabin fever, weather closes in, sled dogs get a big part, final scene involves drinking whisky as the snow falls
Ok guy with white beard, gives out presents, kids squabble over them.
Yeah, you are right
Just integrate them into the borg.
