NSF grantees - people who have already received their grants based on a previously funded and approved research proposal - are being told to stop any activities related to DEI and accessibility.
Call this what it is: government censorship of ongoing research projects.

Many of the recent barrage of EOs + vague unsigned memos popping up on the websites for various agencies have appended A onto the DEI alphabet, spreading FUD to yet another vulnerable community
Why?
If you do accessibility work elsewhere using federal dollars, is that work supposed to stop? Are jobs endangered? Whose?
A. Are these "orders" real, fully thought-through policy decisions that've been properly vetted to stand up to the inevitable legal challenges?
B. Who specifically is accountable for each one?
C. Or did some pranksters break in, steal some letterhead, + let loose?
But if C is more accurate, then exercising good judgement might be a better strategy than immediate blind obedience
Instead of acting as though this is all a done deal, can reporters who care about accessibility step into the breach + help provide a bunch of much-needed context?
( I don't know if this is you or some @propublica.org investigative reporter, but it's gotta be someone's beat, right? )

It's a legalized hate crime.

Revolution is necessary.

And just to be clear, original snippiness NOT aimed at you.

"luckily, our scope is very broad and the only diversity we deal with is at the molecular level."
Based on my understanding, NSF isn’t too strict about how closely you adhere to the original proposal. There seems to be some wiggle room for doing the right thing.
"Don't allow your research to include disabled people."
No, I'm not surprised, but just... Fucking really?
#AltTest is a visual aid and will increase your reach to a broader audience. It only took me seconds to #AltText this for you.

as a goal for broader impacts. IANAL but that looks like grounds for a useful lawsuit
